"Designers, gather round. Your challenge today is to make a couture gown AND you have to steal the fabric. You have five minutes to sketch and get into your running shoes."
This challenge was BS for me. Couture. In 2 days.
If they're going to call Laura on being derivative they need to bop jeffrey for his westwood/mcqueen ripoff.
just glad vincent is AUF. kayne's dress resembled wendy pepper's wedding dress. i hope i never find out what it's like to be called tacky on two continents -- week after week.
uli's dress was very santino/nikki hilton challenge. i'm so jaded.
the footage of laura crying really got to me. i think i even dreamt about it. i hope she can pull through. she really seems to be the big fan favorite of this season (her board at TWOP has over 80 pages compared to 60 for jeffrey & 16 for uli)
my favorite place is now the project rungay blog. those two self-described "fags" make my damn day.
ps. has anyone mentioned that malan sometimes sings at CAST PARTY? i kid you not.

I didn't like Malan, but i think he was eliminated too early

Vincent and Angela were both kept on way too long, and at the expense of someone who would have been more worthy in this competition.

Dottie... you're so right... Alison and Malan were such better designer than those two... you can tell that it was all for tv, especially in Alison's case

I mentioned weeks ago that I know Malan from the days when we were both near-daily Marie's Crisis regulars, and that he has a rather lovely voice

Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you.
Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.

I read that one earlier (when I read Robert's!). Vincent really is delusional. Really, the guy does not seem like he has a grip on reality.

Any good Kors-isms from last night?
I recall something about "cut the skirt shorter and add a feather duster and she'd look like a french maid!" when the great Orange One was referring to Laura's.

Jeffrey's dress looked like he ate some fabric and puked it up on the model. Uli should have won. No question.

I had a dream about being pregnant last night because of Laura. I feel terrible for her right now.
But I don't think she's the fan favorite. Michael is definitely the fan favorite right now.

has anyone ever noticed that Laura is OBSESSED with being right?
she always in her interviews asserts stuff that she has heard on the runway as if she thought of it before the runway show...
like the fat minnie mouse comment... she stole that from the runway
but especially when the judges criticised the garment she made for Jeffrey's mother... if you watch the episode, she says in the interview that they make after the runway show, but invariably show before, that she had questions about the design... but on the next episode she asserts that she loved the design and thought it was perfect... i really can't stand this woman

Uli's dress was pretty, but it was still an Uli dress. Same pattern, just a non-printed, higher quality fabric. If she makes it to the final 3, she's going to HAVE to come up with something new, because an entire show of the same dress is going to get very old, very fast.
I'm pretty sure Laura said "I'm not designing for the Olsen Twins" in the preview.
I'm sooo glad Vincent is gone. He hasn't deserved to be here for weeks, so it's about time. Tim's podcast this week is hysterical in his reactions to Vincent. Ugh, the glue. I was really hoping that because of the rules of couture, the judges would be shown the designers actually making the clothes this week, if only to see their reactions to that. The French government has probably banned him from even painting a t-shirt in their country- let alone referring to any of his clothes as couture- after seeing this.
Honestly, I was more annoyed with the judges than anything this week, especially in their reaction to Kayne. It says so much about their actual knowledge of couture if they would complain that it was "too much." I'm not saying his dress was the best, but that complaint in particular bugged me. Um, have they SEEN any couture shows? Not Juicy Couture, actual, licensed couture. Christian Dior is the first thing that comes to my mind and Kayne's dress is NOTHING compared to this:
I would love to see what the judges would say about one of John Galliano's designs- if it were sent down the runway without them knowing it was his. They'd probably bash it completely, then look like idiots trying to take it all back when shown the error of their judgements.

Finally watched it last night...yay, CrazyBucket is gone! Click...dial tone...GOOD BYE. What an ASSHAT. Could he be more delusional? Does he ACTUALLY believe he has talent, or is there some sort of alien brain implant action going on there? WHO THE p*uck uses GLUE to create couture? Of course, since he was using upholstery, I suppose allowances can be made...and didn't that enormous fleurchon just make you all warm and fuzzy inside?
Poor Michael. Better luck next time, toots...the egg was a most unfortunate touch, but I have to say it didn't really make the dress any worse. Now we see our shining Knight's (tee hee) Achilles heel...having to actually pick up a needle and thread and not use Miss Singer and her sister, Mary Bobbins.
I actually did NOT hate Kayne's gown (which is unusual, since I think he's quite possibly the tackiest thing since Liberace and rubber cement...)The skirt was, in fact, downright beautiful. The top was a bit busy, but I actually liked the visible boning, and I'm sure John Galliano would have fudged his frillies over it.
Uli. Honey, we get it. You braid real purty. Look, an empire waist! Yes, you are The Mistress of The Drape. We totally understand. Make a pair of pants or a short skirt, and I'll pay attention.
Laura...oh, m'stars. Poor thing. This pregnancy is not doing her any favors...that dress was a HOT MESS. Oooh, a plain black shift dress with some ruffles on the neck and cuffs. How DREADFULLY original, Big Red. Oh so disappointing...
Jeffrey's surprised me, in that I actually liked it. It looked HOT on the American model. Jeffrey himself, however, is the world's biggest HSM (except possibly for Whitney Houston and Liza Minelli), and should be lashed to the rear of a garbage truck and driven through a hailstorm.
Someone needs to tell Mlle. Malandrino that, given her personal style choices, she's perhaps more fit to be a guest on What Not To Wear than to adjudicate a fashion program. What a maroon!

I didn't find Uli's dress to be that interesting.... certainly not couture. It looks like a very slightly upscale version of many a prom dress I've seen, and that's just not high fashion. Diversity, please.
He drives me crazy, but Jeffrey's dress was great, and I think deserved to win. I really liked Kayne's dress and didn't think that it was (this time) tacky. The guy can certainly sew and do detailing.
Michael flubbed this week, but his flubs are still way above the level of other people's. He hadn't really crashed and buned on an outfit yet. I agree that he's probably the fan favorite, at least judging from people I've talked to.

I'd bash that gown completely also. It's ridiculous. There's no error in judgment. When you're big and have a name, you can get away with that crap.

Orangeskittles & JYG, so right you are!!
The one thing I like about Michael is he's so objective about himself as a designer, and even he could see he was having trouble with the couture challenge. And no where in that did he feel the need to take any of the other designers down a few notches.
When Vincent said in his interview with Entertainment Weekly that his design was hands down the best one, I thought, "what have you been smoking?" And to think that someone is fronting him money to open a boutique. Go figure. Are his 15 minutes almost up?

Dottie... i agree about Michael... he was completely real about his garment which was commendable
also... i really LOVED Kayne's... in couture i feel like too busy doesn't matter... if they were designing wearable ball gowns I think he would have made a completely different garment as well... but the construction of his was by far and away the best of the designers... I thought his would win actually because of the level of difficulty in making that, shows how much I know...
