Whenever I picture couture, this image appears in my head:
I wish I could've seen what Austin Scarlett would do with this challenge.
Which is sort of exactly what Laura was trying to do with her collar.
Jane, what I meant was the judges are probably much harsher towards the designers on the show than they would *ever* be towards actual established designers. They would praise them for being avant-garde instead of calling it tacky. I doubt even Nina Garcia would tell John Galliano to his face that he had no taste just because she didn't like the dress.
That Jon Galliano dress is an absolute nightmare.
Christian Dior Fall Couture Collection
After seeing those pictures, it cracks me up when the judges use adjectives, such as "costumy", etc. to describe some of the contestants creations. They had the nerve to criticize Alison for her hair choice, too.
honestly, couture isn't meant to be worn. it is meant to be theatrical and get attention for the label. only about 7 women in the world regularly purchase it. this wasn't always the case, obviously. i love all the over the top marilyn manson clothes from galliano. he has his own label, but unless he is designing for dior, it isn't OFFICIAL couture. the couture houses are: Adeline André
Chanel
Christian Dior
Jean-Paul Gaultier
Givenchy
Christian Lacroix
Scherrer
Dominique Sirop
Frank Sorbier
Emanuel Ungaro
Versace, Armani & Valentino are among the foreigners invited to show their collections.
I wouldn't wear the galliano stuff, but "goth is good" is one of my sayings. goth always comes around in the culture in reaction to oppressive political regimes. the last big goth period was under reagan (and teenagers like it because they are ALWAYS under the oppressive regimes of school and parents) I was a goth girl in my day and i still have corpse lipsticks in my purse, but now they have a pearl finish.

Yeah, I'm saying the same thing. They would never criticize Galliano's because he can get away with it, he's got a name.
But I tend to think the judges this season are going for the avant-garde. Hence the keeping and praise of Jeffrey, the sharp criticism of Laura's tired old thing.

Kitzarina...re: Carrie in Paris. I thought that dress was a dream!
I agree, Blueroses. when I saw that gown I gasped-STUNNING! One of the most gorgeous garments I've ever seen. And I was semi-pleased with how SJ looked in it. Normally I don't think she wears clothes well.
Ah, okay Jane. I was confused. I thought you thought I meant it as an insult to John Galliano, when I really meant it as an insult towards the judges.
LOL, I hear you. But I"m saying that I'm insulting both the judges AND Galliano!
I just want 'The Neck" gone.....cannot stand that man!

Elphaba, doesn't he kind of look like Kevin Spacey would if he avoided the dentist and just swallowed a football?

aww, I like kvin Spacey, don;t compare him to that little toad of a human that needs to have his scrotum stepped on with stilettos.

I love Kevin Spacey. Jeffrey just reminds me of a junkie, welfare version.
Apparently everyone who votes on "Rate the Runway" on the Bravo/PR site has no taste (just like a whole bunch of us here on BWW)...Uli's gown is currently the winner and Kayne's is #2. Jeffrey's punk-rock "couture" is #4 among voters.
I did not find Kayne's gown to be as horrifyingly bad as Nina and Miss Orange Tan (but then I'm not a fashionista that needs to feel superior to a queen from Oklahoma)...no, I rather liked it. I also thought Uli should have won...her gown said "couture" to my eyes.
I totally agree that this bunch of judges would slam John Galiano (if they had no idea who had designed the dress) based on their recent performances.
I nearly peed my pants with glee when Vincent got the boot. He put a basket on a model's head and called it a hat, and i'm NEVER going to get over it. Every single thing he has designed has been both hideous and dated and I'm thrilled he's finally gone. I will miss him rambling about how wonderful his disasters are however, always good for a laugh.
Garland Grrrl--You inadvertently omitted Wendy Pepper from the list of licensed coutourists LOL. See http://www.wendypepper.com/hcouture.cfm
All--my DVD set of the 1st two seasons arrived a few days back so I got my PR fix this past weekend. I really wish the judges would return to the fair-and-balanced objectivity of the first season. They are now all over the place. While I'm on the subject of the 1st season, could anyone imagine Jeffrey & Wendy Pepper as part of the same cast???
does anybody have any good theories about wednesday? I don't think that it has to do with the Olsen Twins... that would be too obvious
I just don't want Laura to go.
seriously? I really want her to go...
Why? I think she is one of the best designers on the show.
i think that she is talented within the one genre, and the three garments that she knows how to make, but beyond that i feel as if she has no clue
