Tonight I watched the Tony's opening number on youtube - the "I Hope I Get It" sequence. I thought it was funny when they said "I want all performer's from tonights nominated musicals, please...the cast of Company!" and it's just Raul by himself reading the paper in his dressing room with his feet up on the desk. I missed that when I watched it live, and after he lost I didn't feel like watching anything from the Tony's for awhile. But I revisited it tonight, and he looks SO cute during that part, I love the face he makes when he jumps up from the chair. This is like the 5th time I've watched it, lol

It also made me rediscover how the opening to A Chorus Line might be my favorite opening number in the world... I forgot how great it is! *gets tickets*

It's bittersweet now, but still cute. Oh, Raul...

It is, because... that was when he, as it seemed, was still just about to win a Tony. It's really sad to watch all of the pre-Tony press now.

I know, that's why I didn't watch until now. That's why I like the Drama Desk stuff so much - it was such a happy time.
These so don't do it justice - especially since they were taken from a video on 'that site'.

"Character Studies" on PBS is on right now, examining the characters in "Our Town" in case anyone is interested. There are tons of great clips from the many different runs of the show (they just showed Lincoln Center's 1988 show with Spalding Gray) with a lot of commentary from actors who have played in it before.

I haaaaaate that I'm going to miss this reading!! re: The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love' Thread, Part 3

Heh, I'm always whining about how there's nothing on TV, and now when there's something of interest, I'm stuck without access to one.

I swear everyone I know was reading yesterday, it was insane!

Just a quick question, I haven't been really paying attention to when Company will be airing on PBS; is there an official date yet or has nothing been cast in stone?

As far as I know, nothing has been publicly announced - at least not to us peons, hehe. I hope we can find out soon, though!

With two performances each shot by TEN cameras, I can imagine they have an insane amount of footage to go through and edit. It could be a while.

As long as I know that they are definitely still doing the airing and DVD, they can take as long as they need. I heard that there are some special features, like a commentary or something. I'm excited for that!

Oh my god, as someone who LIVES for DVD commentary as it is, that sounds amazing. I'd love to hear Doyle talk about his vision for the show step by step.

I don't know if he's included (he might be) but I heard Raul and Stephen Sondheim were. This is all hearsay, though. But yeah, I love commentaries too. When the Titanic special edition DVD came out with like 7 commentaries, I was in heaven.

Okay, well, the only reason I was insanely excited at the prospect of Doyle is that I had no idea Sondheim was even a possibility. In any case, there are a lot of people involved that I'd adore hearing from. Oh, and that Raul wouldn't be bad, either. re: The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love' Thread, Part 3

I remember seeing a post about commentary recordings on the main board, but I'm pretty sure that was just someone making things up to mess with people.

I remember a thread that was mocking BrodyFosse's need to be the one to break the news all the time. In it, he posted all of this (made up, I assume) information about recording sessions for commentaries and stuff... like that they were in the bag two days after the show had closed, or something. I mean, they hadn't been recorded beforehand -- this deal came through too quickly to have had much prep time. The stuff he was saying was completely unrealistic, and I'm pretty sure he was just trying to feed the fire. People were making fun of the way he always flaunts the fact that he's an insider (like he's the only one on the boards who works in the industry?), and so he posted that just to be obnoxious.

Oh, I know the thread you're talking about. I don't know him at all, so I had no idea what was going on. Yeah, I'd assume that almost everyone on this site knows someone in the industry. Or at least knows someone who knows someone, heh.

Hee, Sondheim was on The Simpsons tonight. Krusty was pissed that he wasn't the guy that wrote Cats, because he cost and arm and a leg to hire.

I still hate Our Town. The next month in this thread is going to be so much fun. :-P
