"Raul's going to be in a play! He's a PIMP!" I love you, siamese dream.
And no one has mentioned - Pinter play? Come on, Company fans.

Someone on the thread on the main board did, I think
Yeah, I just saw. Spoke too soon, I guess.
I'll drink to that.

Emcee, no, I don't know anything about the play. I just am enthusiastic about the idea of Raul playing a pimp. I think he works best as a fucked up character.

Hot.
Ouch.

Why do they always do that to him?
Yay, new project!
A pimp, hmm? That should be interesting.
I expect he'll get to do his working class Brit dialect, too. Love it!
Daniel Sullivan is considered a great director.
We know Ian McShane is very capable of chewing scenery, so stage dynamics should also be interesting.

So's Raul. So, either they'll clash as do like magnets, or they'll get along smashingly.

I'm hoping it's the latter. I can't wait to see who else is cast
Me neither, especially if they decide to go with the thinking that the best way to mount a play is to pack it with as many stars as you can.
Yay a straight play and YAY!! that it's Pinter!
Pardon my ignorance, but I noticed, in the thread on the main board, many negative comments about the Cort Theater. What is wrong with it?

Some of the SA producers are involved, right? Maybe they'll know how to push it? I have no idea. The play came in today at the library, I can't wait to start reading!
People say the Cort is cursed. But the practical problem with it is that it's one of the very few Broadway houses that's on the East side of Broadway.... which is often considered to be the "wrong" side of Broadway. Since it's kind of secluded that way, it's not easily seen by passers by, and plays housed there are sometimes rather easily forgotten. It's also got three levels, and if I remember correctly, I've read a lot of complaints about balcony sight lines -- not to mention the fact that it's hard to fill a house that big with a straight play. And yet it usually gets straight plays. Shows that go in there are regarded as little more than doomed, unfortunately. I can't remember the last time it housed even a mild success.
I read the Playbill article very quickly last night, and when I saw "Frankel," I misatakenly assumed it was Richard Frankel, who produced Company. But yeah, these guys are two of SA's (many) producers.
I'm excited to read it. Being that it's Pinter, I hope it's one of those plays that doesn't make any sense, and it completely awesome and doing so.
Raul is swinging back into action with another benefit. But he's jet setting this time to CA.
I was just about to post that, heh.

But yeah, it's in San Francisco.
i read a synopsis of it and well, it's heavy stuff. I am interested to see how Raul plays his character.
I'm going to the Drama Book Shop after work. I was just going to take a copy out of the library, but then I figured it will be something I'll probably like to have around. I've actually never read Pinter, but I've heard all kinds of craaaazy things about his work. The first time I ever saw Raul live was in a straight play, so I guess I'll always have a soft spot for the way he acts in them.
I think it's about sex and power. It's absurdist, and its supposed to have a lot of energy. I'm eagerly awaiting the annoucement about who's going to play the visiting wife, who gets to inject herself into this nest of masculinity and sets up all kinds of competition and power plays. And then there are those famous Pinter pauses.
I can't stop thinking about what a good choice this is for him. A beefy, challenging masterpiece by a Nobel prize winning playwright, who's still alive, but probably not for much longer, so maybe they'll try to make this a landmark production. Regardless, I think it will be lots of fun for them and for us. I'm certain it will be worth seeing more than once. I think his character is somewhat of a sexual predator. Gotta go back and re-read.
I'll be coming to NY for this one.
San Francisco?!
I just told my mom, and I think we're going!!
We were going to go see a show at the Filmore on the 4th, but this is defidently more important.
YAY!
I thought someone who frequents this thread was in the area. Yay!
I love absurdism. Yesssss.

That's great, opiv! You have to let us all know how the show was.
I've never read Pinter either. It's exciting to start this process, because other than the obvious thrill over Raul being in a play, I love being exposed to new writers.
