I promised myself that I wouldn't come to BWW today, in fear of the hundreds of angry oscar threads. Yet, I came.
I'm really addicted. Ah well. Horrah for the Mano thread managing to stay on the first page!

Posted: 3/6/06 at 5:54pmToday in lunch someone mentioned Oklahoma!(apparently in the Middle School version, Jud doesn't die...wtf?) and we ended up talking about Broadway. I told my friend about Mano and had a bit of fangirl spaz in the process. She laughed at me. a lot. :-P

#1287The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/6/06 at 6:01pmNobody in my school knows who Mano is.. or Raúl or anyone really. They know Adam and Anthony from RENT and that's basically it.

Same here, Mel. It's depressing.

I'm in the early stages. I still have to call Mano "the guy from Sweeney" in front of my mother.
Progression.

People in my school don't know who Adam and Anthony are, even those who would consider themselves RENT fans.
Less than 10 people know who Sondheim is.
There's about 3000 students, and we're pretty close to NYC....Pathetic!
Most people have heard of and/or seen Wicked, however. *growl*

There are so many people that are obsessed with Wicked at my school. And they are all postive that Elphaba is played by EYE-dina Menzel. Grrr.

Good to know, Em
Outside of the sizable number of people at my school majoring in something theater-related, I don't know how aware of Broadway most people are. I would guess that most people know of the big current hits (Wicked, Avenue Q, Rent, etc.), but beyond that I'm not so sure. I was the only person in my dorm who signed up for a free ticket when my RA sponsored a trip to see an Off-Off-Broadway play that a resident of our building was in, and that made me sad.

I always sit with the same two girls in my Art History class. One lives on my floor and I had a class with the other girl last semester. Today I walked in to hear one of the girls sitting there singing "To you and you and you you and you..." to herself. She saw the show three weeks ago and the other girl had recently ordered the DVD and they had just watched it over the weekend.
I never would have known!
