Ok, ok! So.
We were waiting, and the barricades are set up funny, so that if you wait at the "end" of them, you might miss your chance, depending on which way they leave. We were in the back on the side, and I saw Mano first. I pointed him out to the other girls (Sweetestsiren, Fantabulous, Billboard Girl) and we got all excited and whatnot. He was talking to a group of people on our side for a while and then did come our way to leave. I definitely caught his eye, and I think he looked at all of us, but it's that really awkward moment where they're not going to be like "so, do you want my autograph?" and you don't know what to say, because they're right there in front of you. I sort of opened my mouth, and missed him in the time it took me to even start thinking of what to say.
We all stood there, kind of in shock, kind of pissed at ourselves, and luckily some guy went and chased him a couple of feet. We decided to follow the lead, because too many times I've been too shy to stop someone and I've gone home regretting it. When he finished talking to the guy, he looked like he was gonna go again -- he seems just not to think people want to talk thim -- and I figured I might as well sacrifice my dignity for a few seconds in order to avoid that kick-yourself-in-the-ass sense of regret.
I looked at the ground the entire time, but I was like "um... Mano?" and he turned around and came over. I said something about how we didn't want to stop him and felt bad, and I meant to say that I just get kind of nervous and that I was sorry, but the words just... kind of stopped. There was really awkward silence for a second where we all looked at each other, waiting for someone to talk.
Fantabulous asked him to sign her Playbill and we all followed suit. He asked where we were standing, and if he missed us... I don't think we really admitted that we just were too shy to say a word. Fantab then said she was the one who had sent him the MySpace message about Joe's Pub, but until she said what it was about, he looked a little bit confused. Once she clarified, he got it, though. He said he doesn't really know what the deal is, but that there's probably a link or whatever on the website. So then I told him about my phone call misadventures, and he was like "it's like the Escher staircase of phone calls!" I told him I had to spell his name for them like six times, which obviously did not surprise him. 
I said that I hadn't made it to Ars Nova because it sold out so fast, and that's why I was like "must. get. tickets. now." but he said he doesn't think this one's gonna sell out that fast -- totally self-depreciating. I said something about how it was an odd time, since it's during exams for like, everybody I've spoken to about it. Mano was like "psh, exams...." and waved it off. hah.
Then we took pictures, and I think I f*cked up Fantab's. After I took it I was like "wow, you guys look really pale," and Mano goes ".... my... eyes are pale?" I guess I talk too quickly, or something, heh. He looked at it and was like "we look INVISIBLE!" Fantab was using her camera for my picture with Mano, but one of the other girls (BG, that was you?) was taking an extra, and we sort of just kept standing there not knowing where to look, and his arm was still around me. I had one of those "I'm still touching you and I probably shouldn't be.... " moments of realization and sort of skittered away. He's a snuggler, though.
Somewhere in there he asked where we were all from, and if we went to high school together, since we were all from separate places. I guess the assumption might have been that we went to high school together and were now split up for college? I'm not sure. But I said that Fantab and I go to college together, and he asked us all where... and then said he went to NYU for grad school, since that's where BG goes. He asked us all our names, and shook our hands. I guess for me, it's the little things like that that make a big difference; he shook our hands, and repeated our names back, and was like "Mano; nice to meet you." You know, like, even though they know you know their name perfectly well, it's still just a little gesture of caring politeness that I think says a lot about someone.
So then we said our thank-yous because it was REALLY f*cking cold. He waved and was like "see you soon!" which was really sweet, too.
He's absolutely adorable. His demeanor is so gracious and sweet, and he's gorgeous.
Yay.
God, I hope he never reads this.
