When you've got God...you've got a friend.
Is that a Randy Newman lyric?

Posted: 3/3/14 at 12:08amIf people did not like Matthew's speech because of spirituality and faith, then that is just plain mean. But they may not have liked it because they thought he was being too much of a hick, but that's what his personality is like.

I know what he was going for, but Matthew seems to benefit greatly from having a writer. I imagine referring to himself as his own personal hero might be more off-putting to people than the spirituality stuff.
But, I also don't care as long as he keeps putting out great work like Dallas Buyers, Mud, True Detective...

Steve McQueen jumping up and down like a happy little kid was a nice cap-off of the night. Reading about his personal life growing up, he'd be an amazing subject in the Shane Meadows This is England series.
Loved Cuaron's speech. People seem to ignore how important a figure he is to Mexican cinema. Without him, so many filmmakers, even the filmmakers he is not connected to, would not get noticed up here in the States.
McConaughey and Cate gave good speeches. For McConaughey's standards that was a good speech. Cate's speech was just an extension of her awesomeness, look up her speech at SAG and the Spirit Awards.
Lupita's speech was lovely.
Jared's was whatever. Hate the character, hate how that character is used, and checked out of the performance because of how the character was used. Just glad he didn't mention Brazilian wax.
Spike Jonze winning is really the only surprise, and he won the WGA.
David O. Russell film shut out after winning 2 the first time and just 1 the second time. He gets the nominations but the films cannot close. Neither can Sony. 3 times they were in position as front-runner during certain Oscar seasons, Social Network and Zero Dark Thirty the others, and came up incredibly short. At this point, I don't care about the quality of films they get to distribute. They are terrible at campaigning.

I'm just still laughing at the running commentary on my Facebook Newsfeed tonight.
Now I'm too keyed up to sleep.

Yes.
I can never remember her husband's name to call her Mrs. Whatever. Hapsburg.
Has Liza's Headband exploded because Cate Blanchett did not condemn Woody Allen?

In terms of Oscar tributes to God, I vastly prefer Darlene's love a capella chorus of "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" to Matthew McConaughey's rambling speech.

I'm glad God had time to help Matthew McConaughey win an Oscar while there's a man sleeping on a hefty bag outside my window."
