Posted: 1/5/09 at 6:55pmSpeaking of Raul and movies, I went to the movies for the first time in like... eight months yesterday. While we were watching the trailers, I had this moment of "I can't wait 'til I'm sitting in a movie theater and up pops a trailer of Raul running around with a knife."

Posted: 1/5/09 at 6:59pmMe, too, emcee. The only problem is they match the trailers with the audience for each movie that is being shown, which means I have to go to some crummy horror flick to see the trailer for Raul!

No, it's not the kindest pic of Macy, but...well....that's what he looks like these days. He's 20 years older than Raúl and it shows. I don't know if he has any pictures that show him to appear younger, although a smiling picture might have been more advantageous.

Eeek!! Although I think in a movie theater you'd at least be braced to see him. I'm dreading the day when I'm watching something on SciFi or similar channel and a commercial for his movie comes on, totally without warning. I may require CPR in that event....

Posted: 1/8/09 at 6:50pmwonkit - they usually don't match the trailers with the films at all, IMO. Unless they've changed things recently, I always think they do the opposite! I've taken the kids I babysat for to movies that had pretty racy previews before a G-rated flick!

heh - and they always say that they edit those trailers so they're G rated.....

misschung - they do match trailers in my local mega-plex. By the time I finish watching eight trailers, the feature film seems like a re-run!
ATC says there is a rumor that Macy may not start as scheduled. Seems unlikely, but anyone heard anything?

Hmm, that's interesting. In the back of my mind I was thinking that could be a possibilty if Norbert was bringing an audience in. And really, I'm not sure how much more of an audience William H Macy would bring in. Who knows.
I had originally planned to see William H Macy also, but I am flat broke so it just ain't gonna happen.

Honestly, I think he'll be just as big, if not a bigger draw than Jeremy was. He's an established star in a very different way, and I feel like his appeal reaches a far wider audience than did Jeremy's. I hope that turns out to be true anyway.
And from what I understand, Macy is ready to go as scheduled.

Posted: 1/10/09 at 9:08pmI'm jealous as I thought Norbert was great but I only had one chance to see him in this. I would bet there will be tears again at curtain call.

NPH's stab at Jeremy Piven on SNL was very funny...but NOBODY in the audience got it.

I watched the SNL clip - I actually think the audience DID get the Piven reference, based on the groan that rose.
Anyway - how was Norbert last night? And anyone going to Macy's first?

There's a thread about Norbert's last on the main board. No speeches or fanfare, no tears -- lots of applause, lots of hugs, flowers, and a lot of love.
I'm going to see Macy next weekend with a friend who will be visiting from out of town. We're doing a double-header of Equus and Speed-the-Plow. What a pair, heh!

Posted: 1/15/09 at 1:52amI'm finally listening to more of The House of the Scorpian. Raul's accents blow my mind. The scottish one in particular. Shrek, anyone?! And his southern accent is spot on! Too funny.

His attention to detail with the voices is amazing. I mean, yeah, it's his job, but not everybody has the knack for it. I suppose it's the singer in him, but it's still amazing.
I also wondered who he based various voices on. I figure that at least some of them are people he's know in his life (perhaps Celia was his grandmother, and so on). But the one I'm really curious about is Tom, with his snarky Texas drawl and phony facade. Remind you of anyone?

Posted: 1/15/09 at 10:31amI have started to listen to THE BOOK OF UNHOLY MISCHIEF. Have to admit that the story is less appealing to me, so even the prospect of listening to THAT voice isn't keeping me involved. With SCORPION, I just devoured the story, and actually liked the last third best of all. Wait until you hear Ton-ton and Fidelito! I adore those characters, and I am glad there will be sequels to that book, although who knows when?

Another video of Raúl singing O Holy Night at the ASTEP benefit has popped up on YouKnowWhere site.

I love this because it's shot from the far right side and you can watch his breathing technique as he sings.

A pic of Raúl and Bill Macy:
Hmmm....Raúl's hair reminds me of the character he played in Find Me Guilty.
