The Raúl E. Esparza "Spread the Love" Thread, Part Four

Since the mods decided it was necessary and fair to delete our entire thread based on one offensive post by a sock puppet and if I post referring to the incident or asking to know why, they'll just delete that too...

Posted: 4/7/08 at 4:50pmBut the Raul thread that's been there since October is GONE!
#5re: The Raúl E. Esparza 'spread the love' thread, part four
Posted: 4/7/08 at 4:50pmThere was nothing particularly important in the thread, so I don't really care about the content, but really, on principle, why was that necessary?

But none of the other threads that the picture was posted in were deleted....
Wow.

No they deleted the AI thread.
And I'm not so mad about the deletions as I am that they didn't ban the OBVIOUS sockpuppet months ago. They just let him be and let it escalate.

You would think that would have been the logical solution, Priest.
Go Raul, I guess.

Because that's logical?
So anyway, I'm going to try to weasel my way into this concert tonight.

^ Good luck!
I'll be there....7th row, I believe. My friend and I bought the tickets way back when they went on sale, and we splurged so we're like, dead center too. I'm very excited that Raul will be there. More excited for Ms. Anglea though :)

I'd ask what happened, but that would be silly.
Anyway, which concert, Emcee?

Great job, mods.
Anyway. Raul! orangeskittles and I saw Signature's production of Kiss of the Spider Woman this past weekend, and now I can't stop thinking of the idea of Raul as Molina. We discussed on the dearly departed thread whether he'd be more suited for Molina or Valentin, and while I think he could do either, I can see him doing great things with Molina....if he was well-directed and didn't go too over the top or campy. So I guess I'd add that to the list of roles I'd love to see him play.

Posted: 4/7/08 at 9:04pmI would love to see him in that show. There's great potential for either Molina or Valentin, but I agree with Siren. If he could move beyond the camp, the character would give him the chance for a more calibrated performance.

Yeah. I had said before that I trusted him to do Valentin more than Molina, but he could still give a wonderful performance as either. I think that without a strict director to consistently reign him in throughout the run, he'll revert to camp. I mean, even now he's onstage doing Pinter and grabbing his balls every night just because he knows he can get away with it. As brilliant an actor as he can be, when he gets bored and lazy, it's a disservice to the play and to the costars having to play off his whimsies.
Then there's the issue of *would* he play Molina, because some of the subject matter hits a bit close to home, I'm sure.
