Oh, this Chess concert is so AWKWARD. I had high hopes for the guy singing the Arbiter's song, but wow that was sad. Heh. And yet I can't stop watching.

I actually did stop watching after about an hour. It would have been nice if they had provided subtitles. Sung English is all but unintelligible. I would have to say that Idina didn't seem to be at the top of her game, Groban seemed quite good. And I can't get Raul's Arbiter out of my head.
Well, at least you guys are getting to see it. The Los Angeles PBS station won't lower itself to even schedule it anywhere, let alone air it when everybody else gets to see it.
I totally forgot about the concert. Awkward how so?
I saw Twelfth Night too. Hardly revolutionary (and a surprisingly tame offering from Daniel Sullivan) but still ridiculously entertaining. There are some great moments particularly those, as Em noted, derived from Raul's costumes and comportment skills.
The shirt is indeed excellent. There's a vest, too, to go with the shirt. This outfit is sadly very short lived, but it's nice while it lasts. :) I'm a sucker for period clothes, and Raul happens to look really great in them.
He really did. I was sitting there wishing he would do more period projects in the future...just for the clothes.
"We did a photo shoot yesterday..." PICTURES!!! WE WILL HAVE PICTURES!!!
And here are some screencaps from Anne's appearance on The View:
Oh, and in case anyone was wondering/confused, the costumes are all Regency/Napoleonic Era, not Elizabethan. My absolute favorite time period for historical costuming (you don?t want to know how many Regency dresses I have in my closet).
I was gonna go tonight, as a reward for surviving the GRE yesterday, but, I feel like I'm going to fall asleep at any moment, so I think I will just have a night in.
I'll reserve final judgment until I can see some better pictures, but from these, at least, the costumes are...not impressing me. Now, I know I'm picky because I've been a costumer and have studied historical costume and fashion for 40 years, but I've seen better costumes in a high school play. I have better dresses than those in my closet. And Raul's coat....don't get me started!
OK, sorry. /rant It's the costumer in me, I just can't help it.
Hamish Linklater was *slightly* under the radar for me as well. I knew who he was, I knew he was insanely talented, and I was really excited about seeing him. I also knew he was tall. I didn't realize however, how extremely talented he was, or how extremely tall he was. I have to admit, I have more than a slight crush on the man. He is wonderful. And I swear if he moves back to Hollywood after this, I'm gonna be heart broken. He has the most beautiful hair I have ever seen. And when I saw him back in March at the Shakespeare thing at Symphony Space, his reading of Benedict was so incredible, despite the idiot girl reading with him who insisted upon doing so with an English accent. I hate that all you really see in this production is his comedic brilliance, cause the man's got it all. *splashes cold water on my face* I'm sorry, I got sidetracked.
I have never seen a production in the park before, so I was just assuming the costumes reflected the fact that the production is free to the public. For some reasons, I thought Raul's pants should have been more fitted. Although, I think that had a lot to do with me just wanting to see him in tighter pants.

Raúl's episode of L&O:Criminal Intent appears to be scheduled for next Sunday, June 28th, although the listing does not include any mention of guest stars. Here's the episode description:
"Goren and Eames investigate the killing of a man who became famous for dodging a murder conviction because of a mishandled trial. The man spun his notoriety into a TV show but turned up dead on his birthday."
I guess the "mishandled trial" part is where Raúl would come in?
Saw the show again tonight. This time from stage left, which I enjoyed much better than stage right. Fun stuff. I would say don't let the rain discourage you from seeing a performance, it gives the show a great feel.

I'm one of those rare people who actually loves being out in the rain. Long walks in the rain are one of my favorite things, especially in New York. And I feel like rain might really give Twelfth Night an even more romantic atmosphere than it already has, in a way, 'cause... I find there to be something terribly romantic about summer rain. I mean, I'm going to opening and not to say I'd like it to rain then because I'll have to be in a cocktail dress, but, I wouldn't mind seeing it in the rain at some point.
Also, I feel like the cast should invest in those umbrellas you can wear affixed to your head.
