How many countries are going to stay on our side? We don't have an exit plan for Iraq. The insurgents are kidnapping people left and right, in the coalition and out of it and threatening to kill them if they don't pull out.

And so far, over a thousand US troops dead.

And this is supposed to be cheery?

The problem is, among other things, that precious few of the countries on that list have resources...financial or manpower...to really be of much help.

The US has been losing respect in the eyes of the world for years... the Bill and Monica fiasco was an embarassment. European countries, in particular, found the American public's and media's obsession with the affair a source of endless amusement. Bill should've known better than to expose himself, so to speak, to that kind of attack. And the American people should have weighed their priorities a lot better, rathering than following the bidding of Clinton's enemies. But sex sells, so there you have it.

Then there was the "election that wasn't" in 2000. My boss is from India, and he said to this day, Bush is never referred to as having been "elected" but rather as having been "appointed" in the Indian press.

And now, the macho cowboy "let's kick somebody's ass" bravado that resulted in Iraq is the proverbial icing on the cake.

It's a sad state of affairs. I lived through the Nixon years and Watergate. I protested the war in Vietnam. But I have never felt such a sensation of utter disgust with the state of politics in the US as I have felt since 2000.

I was 16 during the 2000 election. If I could have voted I would have voted for Gore. I wonder how different things would be now if he had been elected.

That's one of the reason's I'm so angry a lot of the time, NYU...Gore DID win the election... It was stolen from him...and from the public that voted for him by the manipulations of Jeb Bush in Florida, and by the Supreme Court justices picked by earlier Republican administrations. That was one of the most in-your-face travesties I have ever seen perpitrated in the name of the law.

You know, jrb, the other thing that bothers me is how negative and hopeless I come across when I start posting about politics these days. Anyone who has met me knows that I'm actually quite positive by nature...the proverbial "glass half full" type...so for me to be this angry at this stage of my life, is telling. I used to believe to my core that if everyone worked hard enough, all the world's wrongs could be "righted". I'd give anything to feel that way again...

And to bring my angst full circle, and hopefully make a point... if I've learned nothing else, it's that EVERYTHING matters. The erosion of our Constitutional rights....little by little....in the name of keeping us safe from the terrorists, is going to have long term implications far greater than any of us can imagine right now. I feel the same way about this election.

Kerry challenges Bush on Iraq-9/11 connection

Interesting part: "Kerry said Powell "came clean with the American people about the lack of a connection between Iraq, Saddam Hussein and the September 11 attacks."

Not only that, Kerry said, Powell also contradicted comments Vice President Dick Cheney has made as recently as Friday."

Man, I love that I started this thread.
Iflit, I might have said I had a little crush on you earlier but it's not a full-blown case of puppy love.
You rock my world.
