I suggest that all of you Democrats log onto www.georgewbush.com and read the Republican Platform if you haven't already.
Check it out, under Communities and Values:
"Defending Marriage
President Bush believes that marriage between a man and a woman is the most enduring human institution, and the foundational building block of our society. President Bush has fought to defend traditional marriage laws from activist judges who threaten to legislate from the bench to impose same-sex marriage and deny the voice of the people."
Compassion? Not if you disagree with us. Denying the voice of WHICH people? The ones your DOMA and FMA are denying?
The following is from the introductory paragraph of the same section:
"It is in these communities that we grow up, go to school, attend church, mosque, or synagogue, and raise our families. It is our sacred responsibility to take care of these places, and leave them better off - physically, spiritually, and culturally."
I find it interesting they were "inclusive" enough to include mosques and synagogues when the bulk of their "moral values" come straight from Christianity. So we'll parade you Middle Easterners out for our convention and whatnot, but don't expect any of the funds from those new Faith-Based Initiative acts we've passed (and $1.1 billion of our tax dollars have gone to Faith groups since Bush got his law passed...I wonder how many went to evangelical organizations alone)...after all, we wouldn't want to inadvertently be supporting a terrorist organization.
"Over the last four years, the air has become cleaner, our water more pure, and we have reversed the net loss of wetlands. In addition, our parks are better managed, better funded, and better protected. Throughout his first term, President Bush has launched a series of climate change initiatives to improve scientific understanding and reduce emissions through the use of new, energy-efficient technologies. He has proposed several clean air initiatives that will dramatically improve air quality and public health. In his second term, President Bush will continue improving our environment"
In complete and utter disagreement with the relaxation of all those pollution laws. Interesting. So, lessening the restrictions is really increasing them?
Oh, I could go on. There are so many wonderful little bits of wordplay and rhetoric in this platform. I encourage you all to find one of your choosing and post it here.

I suggest that all you Democrats go back and read the Defense of Marriage Act. Senators voted 85-14 for the Defense of Marriage Act. The House overwhelmingly passed the bill, and President Clinton endorsed it.
Against gay marriage is a bi-partisan issue.
oh--you have so won all arguments with that post. Let's all vote for Bush now!
I have a question, and this is an honest not trying to pick a fight just trying to understand, question:
I know that Bush wants to have a constitutional ammendment against gay marriage, and I know that Kerry does not want one. But, I thought that Kerry was against gay marriage too. Am I wrong?
That is his stance.
The difference is that he fights anti-gay legislature. He will not push for anti-gay legislature.
All it boils down to is he might not fight for gay marriage. He will not fight against it.
Better than what we got goin' right now.
But then, almost everyone else would be.
I vote bwaysinger for President.
Thanks JRB, I just wanted to clear it up because I didn't want to be misinformed.
Ohhh bway for President? Can I be his campaign manager?
I have done far too many questionable things in my so-far not-so-long life to ever be presidential material.
But my IQ is definitely bigger than Dubya's.
That said, whose isn't?

Just because it was passed doesn't make it right.
bythesword84 sees the distinction between the parties. While the Defense of Marriage Act was passed by Congress with hefty margins, it exists only as a law, which can (and will be, eventually) struck down by the Supreme Court. However, the Republican Party platform wishes to enshrine this "definition of marriage" into the US Constitution, which is only undoable by an amendment to undo it. Not to mention, defies the constitutional concept of "equal protection under the law."
I hope that you will not base you're vote on just that one issue. Alot of other factors go into making a informed vote for president.
Oh I know the difference between the two parties, that's why I'm registered as not choosing a party.
" I hope that you will not base you're vote on just that one issue"
Of course not!!
There are NUMEROUS reaons to vote for Kerry as opposed to Bush.
The GOP platform presents a whole host of issues that's solidified my vote against them
"I hope that you will not base you're vote on just that one issue. Alot of other factors go into making a informed vote for president."
As a Gay man, I don't have a choice...
Bush needs to start making some "informed" rather than moralistic decisions.
Windy, read the platform. It's all faith-based. And not just a general idea of faith, which would be so fine in my book, it's a faith based agenda that includes marginalizing some faiths while showing great preference towards evangelical Christianity, shunning some sectors of our society while vowing to "end the discrimination" of faith-based charities.
Again, there's a reason our government was created the way it was created...of course Bush doesn't remember when the rulers of England and the Pope would regularly get into it as to who had the ultimate control of the people...but it looks like we're going to find out soon.
Would you expect an African American to care more about any other issues if the choice was between a candidate that they sorta agreed with on various issues and a racist that they agreed with on most every various issue?
Do you REALLY blame them for not wanting to vote for the racist? For wanting to do everything possible to keep that person out of the office?
But, the decision this year isn't even that tricky--as was said above--there are MANY reasons to love Kerry and despise Bush.
'I hope that you will not base you're vote on just that one issue. Alot of other factors go into making a informed vote for president.'
You have GOT to be kidding me. The fact that this leader would like to take the very rock of our democracy and enshrine bigotry and homophobia into it is more than enough reason to note vote for the man. How could anyone...Democrat, Republican or Whig...expect my vote if they plan to relegate me to second class citizenship.
Christ...even the f*cking gay neo-con Republicans who have stood by the Shrub through everything (Andrew Sullivan, The Log Cabin folks) are not supporting him!
For the love of LaBlanche, don't tell me how to cast my vote!
"But, the decision this year isn't even that tricky--as was said above--there are MANY reasons to love Kerry and despise Bush."
Uuum, care to list some of those reasons? Kerry has proven absolutely nothing to me, and has given me no reason to vote for him. So until he proves something to me, then my vote will go to Bush.
Then watch the debates. Read Kerry's web site. Read this:

I just wonder--does Bush really offer you anything?
And, you go, robbie. Voting against a bigot is more than enough reason. I would think some of you would understand that. MAybe not.

I really don't think that my post was telling any one which way to cast a vote any more than this thread is. I have not even made my decision yet. And the last time I checked I don't remember Kerry saying he is Pro gay marriage. Or did he change his mind again??
