'The Wolf of Wall Street' directed by Martin Scorsese

I've been looking forward to this film all year, but so much has been happening to it in the last two months. It was originally going to be released on November 15, but then Paramount had to make some changes to it and the release date was uncertain. But then on October 28 the film scheduled a release sate for Christmas Day and a running time of 165 minutes.

Now, reports are saying that the film will now run 179 minutes and may even receive an NC-17 rating.

One of my best friends who is a girl will probably not want to see a film with that rating. What are your thoughts on the film?

Just not even remotely interested, but I'll probably go because it's Scorsese and all. But this is the last time I'll go because "It's Scorsese And All" -- after crap like THE DEPARTED, SHUTTER ISLAND, and that HUGO thing, Scorsese's got one more strike before he goes into my Wait For Netflix file for good.

Looking forward to it. Part of it was shot in a diner in my area and that should be good for a laugh. No idea it would be almost 3 hours. Have to sneak in more food I guess.

The NC-17 threat is old news and there is not a chance of that happening. They aren't giving a Scorsese/Paramount film that rating (And why is gender a considered variable in whether a person wants to see a NC-17 rated film? Killer Joe and Blue is the Warmest Color, both NC-17 films in the US, appeal to different demographics and are rated the way they are for entirely different reasons) . That is old information that is just being passed along, just as is the length. It was an open secret Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker were were figuring out how to not make it an over 3 hour film. beautywickedlover, that story from THR is from a month ago. A lot has changed.

It's going comedy at the Globes so maybe this is much more looser, heaven knows DiCaprio needs it. If this is Scorsese's Hedge Funders meets After Hours meets Casino then I am in. Also would be good if the screenwriter Terrence Winter is back in form of a black comedy than the constantly self-serious Boardwalk Empire. The Sopranos could often be funnier than most TV comedies.

The clips, I have seen, I like. I oddly feel like Jonah Hill will steal this from DiCaprio.

Seems rather familiar, that clip. At least Jonah Hill seems to be rising to the occasion. And there's always Jean Dujardin to hope for -- maybe he'll get more than a couple seconds of screen time.

Yup according to The Hollywood Reporter the cuts were made to sexually explicit scenes to get the R-rating.

From early screenings the movie has a drug trip and drug crash quality.

Proves how effed up the MPAA rating system is if the crucial element was sex.

I know people who both think it is a masterpiece from their screenings but also think Oscars will be cool on it because of just how explicit it is. It earned that R-rating and some of the details about Leo are pretty extreme. It's been described as 'Marty's Caligula/Marty's Satyricon'. The latter makes perfect sense given he has such a fondness for Fellini that I can believe he went into the film with that mindset except his characters are in 90s corporate suits.

Supposedly the scenes cut to avoid NC-17 ratings were full-frontals by Leo (who still flashes skin in the cuts most people have seen) and..... Jean Dujardin. Meanwhile, lots of boobage everywhere in the film. And Hill's character is pretty unlikable in a really gets under your skin kind of way, but that is what they are going for.

The cut Scorsese and Winter had that they found pretty workable was a cut nearing on 5 hours. Give me that unrated cut NOW. The reports do have people saying the 3 hours went by because of the adrenaline of the picture. Thelma Schoonmaker is a genius so I can believe this.

The first real takes are from social media and bloggers but this goes again to key demographics. There are still yet to be any Critic screenings, just guilds. Nobody doubts TWOWS's box office potential and being favorites for a certain age demographic that spends a lot at the movies. The older audience, who make up more of AMPAS' body, and are not as tied to social media as the younger viewers are not really saying anything right now though I am led to believe this is going to be really polarizing. This is a real test if the Academy is really having a moment with Scorsese or the surprise nods for Hugo after a near decade of 'He's due' nominations will end with him really going again the gritty, controversial stuff that he got ignored for.

I'm surprised full frontal would earn a NC-17 unless you can only have so much nudity and sex in one film, I'm really looking forward to it.

Apparently it costs $100m which is a lot for an R rated drama.

Male full-frontal freaks the MPAA out far more than female full-frontal. That's my only explanation as I haven't seen a single frame of the film in question.

Even recent examples of R rated movies with full frontal male nudity would include Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Zach and Miri Make a Porno and American Reunion. Is that the distinction? As long as it's a comedy it's okay to show peen, but if it's a drama it's not?

Really, really enjoyed this. I'm not a big fan of Scorsese or DiCaprio, but was impressed by both here.

Not sold on whether it really, REALLY had to be three hours long, though I will say it did not drag, simply because so much insanity is going on in the film.

The 15-minute quaalude sequence in the middle of the film was the highlight.

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
