Posted: 5/19/06 at 3:10amPeter, no one has put anyone down on here for enjoying the finale. It's just seems that the majority of us think a show that was so great in the first few years truly deserved better. In comparison to the last episodes of other long running shows, many of which weren't considered ground breaking and nearly as loved, it paled.

Douglas, there are three reasons I watched.
1)Hope
2)Boyfriend
3)Car wreck lookie-loo.

Sueleen - the phrase 'car wreck lookie-loo' just made my night!
I'll just have to accept that this is yet another pop-culture phenomenon (however diminishing the returns) that flew above my radar.

I just thought I'd post...it really hit me that this show is gone and I dont think I'll be able to function during the day today. Thank God its a Friday.
I miss Will & Grace

Jesus. You won't be able to function?
That says one of two things... Either your life is incredibly bleak, or that show meant more to you than any TV show ever could.
I was heartbroken when they cancelled LAX, but I still went to work the next day.
I kid, because I love.
As for the finale... Blah. Blah. Blah. There were maybe 2 LOL moments, and the show deserved more than a cramped fast forward through a quarter of a century with an entire season's worth of "revelations".

Posted: 5/19/06 at 9:47amI think Robert Reed holds the prize for best dramatic exits. In the last episode of the Brady Bunch he refused to come to the set. So they had to rewrite the script where Mike was on a business trip during Greg's graduation.

Posted: 5/19/06 at 9:49amI believe it was what it was. I enjoyed the series and will miss it. But - I have a life and TV in no way, shape or form controls it. I also feel that the show tried to move with the seriousness of the changing times we are living in, and those times are not funny. W&G was created out of humor and it became unsuccessful when it moved from that medium - trying more to become a tool to comment on the lives of the queer community. I will always be thankful for the visibility it created for gays in the media, and I think we all have to accept, personal feelings aside. that it will still claim a huge place in the history books for that visibility.

Posted: 5/19/06 at 10:13amI hadn't kept up with the new episodes for a season or two, When Leo kept popping up it bothered me. But despite many glaring erros in the finale, I cried. I cried alot and called my best friend and then we watched it and cried together. I love will and grace no matter how terrible the finale was. And megan mullally is my idol.I'm going to miss the show. now all i have is my dvds to console me. ;_;

But Goth --
All was forgiven years later when Mr. Reed gave the triumphant performance of a man trapped beneath a collapsed building who was saved by his wife's singing of "O Come, All Ye Faithful" in A Very Brady Christmas.

"OK for all you wussies who are too afraid to like the finale because someone here has nothing more to do with his time than ridicule you for liking it...while he never ever misses an episode ..."
Wow, Peter, you give me credit for way more power than I actually have. I'm sure people are totally able to not like the Will & Grace finale all on their own, without having to fall under some sort of online hypnotic spell of mine.
I don't know where you came up with "never misses an episode...." I've seen maybe four this season, almost none last season.
And I don't ridicule people for liking it. I'm merely surprised by it. Why? Well, it's sort of like when you see somebody settling in a big way for a partner when they could do so much better. Watching people go on and on about a show that had at least some potential which it never lived up to, appear to satisfy some viewers, I have to wonder, why don't people want more? Why don't they expect higher quality? How can this satisfy them. Even the people who like the show seem to always qualify their liking it with acknowledgements that though likable, the show isn't very good.
DG, I watched the finale because I am of the Mary Tyler Moore Show generation. Good last shows always get to me. Before that show, final episodes of sitcoms were almost unheard of, because it was thought that an "ending" would damage a show's chances in syndication. MTM changed all that. (Although it never did very well in syndication!)
Several years ago I watched a finale episode of a show I had never even seen during its run and it made me cry. I can't remember which it was now. Anyway, DG, that's why I watched W&G.
And, to give another example, I DVRed the finale of That '70s Show and watched that last night too [Spoilers ahead]. I've probably seen a dozen episodes of the show in total. And yet, I loved the finale. Why? Because the show created a universe and lived within the boundaries of the established reality of that universe. I'm not saying a sitcom has to be great writing, it just has to make sense within the parameters it creates for itself.
On the '70s Show's last episode, there was good humor, and a melancholy sweetness as the mom told the assorted characters how much they had come to mean to her over the years. There was a short final reunion with Topher Grace, and the episode ended as they counted down to "1" on New Year's Eve 1980. Really clever, and funny, and satisfying.
My beef with Will & Grace is that it was essentially a recombinant creation to begin with. Take one part "AbFab" (Karen) + one part "Brothers" (Jack) + two parts "Friends" (the title characters) multiply times "Seinfeld" divide by "Ellen" subtract good writing et voila: Will & Grace.
I'm sure younger viewers who never experienced anything better and who haven't developed a taste for characters who don't change their basic personalities through the course of one scene, let alone several times an episode, might have some affection for the show. But for the life of me, I'm not really sure why anybody else could feel anything but let down by the show. If it got a report card, each comment field would be filled in with "Not working to its potential."

I don't know why the writers thought that we would have wanted Will & Grace to end up with Vince & Leo. I hate Vince & Leo. They split up Will & Grace.
The finale was ok. Nevertheless, W&G is the greatest show endowed to humanity.

I've always <3'd Vince. I was sad when he wasn't on the show anymore.

Yes Namo, I really really understand you dont like Will and Grace. As I recall you really really didnt like Brokeback Mountain either. But that certainly doesn't stop you from spending your time on nearly every single thread that comes up about them.
This is the one big thing I dont understand about the broadway community and these message boards. If you dont like a show or a performer, why do some people feel the need to add their negatively and sarcastic quips to nearly every single thread that comes up about them. Makes absolutely no sense to me. Its even sad. Why waste your time?

yo, petey, ya read the thread title, right? and ya saw who started the thread, right? so this business about poster's "need to add their negatively and sarcastic quips to nearly every single thread" is basically about you, right?

Anyway. I love W&G. I try to catch it whenever it's on TV (and always watch it at 6:30 and 12 on the WB).
I was out last night and didn't get home until after the show so I watched it on tape with my family and we all agreed: That was the most painful thing I ever sat through.
It seemed like the cast was dead (of emotion and everything). I agree with Sue, it dragged on and on (and we were fast fowarding commercials!).
The two best parts were getting to hear Megan sing and, probably, to see Kevin Bacon reprise his role as Kevin Bacon. That was always one of my favorite episodes.
P.S. I have never liked Vince. Leo was OK. I think the writers got sloppy when Leo came on the show and it just makes him look worse.

Oh, it was a terrible moment as far as the show goes.
But as far as that boring night goes, it was nice to hear Megan sing. OH, and the commercial with Megan and Karen for Megan's new show was fun.
Other than that, it was a terrible series finally. Worse than Seinfeld's.

It seemed to start as Karen singing, then morph into Megan singing, then try to pop back as Karen and just give up and Megan finished it.
