I don't know where to post this now-lost track of the 'waiter' thing long ago.
Slightly back on track though-I notice in a lot of movies and novels-I have to say American because that is mainly what I read and watch-often in a bar or cafe,the characters just peel off notes, throw down money on the table and leave.No-one ever seems to ask for the bill.Have they worked out how much in advance,is it an ego thing[money doesn't matter]? It always seems they are paying way too much for whatever they have consumed.

A mere dramatical device.How much drama would there be if the people at the table finish their heated discussion, get the waiter's attention, check the tab, compute thetip and carefully count out the correct amount? Sort of a Buzz kill, no?

Same reason people in movies never say goodbye when they end a phone call. They just look dramatically off into space and hang up.

And yes, I DO want to know who her father effed over or killed as a Russian mobster to snap up all the property.

On the other hand, the day I responded to something stupid she posted she wrote "I thought you said you were never going to respond to me!" and I pointed out that I had never said any such thing, however I had done so to one of her earlier incarnations. She vanished and didn't post for many days. So let's see if we can make that happen again.

What is "Waiting"? Way back in the '80s the great Tamara Jenkins (who later went on to make "Slums of Beverly Hills") had a one-woman show by that name that has been seared into my memory banks because it was so damn funny.

I started to wonder if I invented "Waiting" by Tamara Jenkins but Google found a preview article about it. The show was very very funny... I wish she had chosen to flesh out a movie of it. I think I remember hoping the preview for that movie was a Jenkins creation, but when it wasn't I must have blocked its existence out.
She gave a discount to actual waitresses!

And they make dates without setting a time (and often without even setting a location). At least on the last episode of GIRLS, one friend said to another: "I'll call you back later with the 'deets.'"

I hate the trend of truncating nouns, but at least I believed the two friends might actually find one another.
