I was surprised by the number of chefs that put on a significant amount of weight. Not saying they need to be stick thin, but it took me a second to figure out who they were.
I thought the idea of the first elimination challenge was really clever. I'm so excited for the rest of the season to see what the heck they're going to do with Sesame Street and Jimmy Fallon.

It looks like Mike Isabella and Dale fed off Richard, who is really thin.

Until it was revealed that Elia basically served raw fish, I thought Stephen was a goner.

I've eaten at Mike's restaurant (Zaytinya) several times. I really like the food there.
What is with Marcel and that same hair style of his. Stephen's ego definitely looked like it got big. Fabio also got a bit puffy looking.

I went through the preview for the upcoming season very closely and Carla was in every group shot they showed except for one, when they had about 7 of the chefs lined up before the judges. I highly doubt they'd show in a preview the final 7 though, so it must be something where half of them went in for judging.
In any case, every week I get more Carla and Tiffany, I'm happy. Jamie is still pissing me off with her ridiculous ego, Fabio still makes me moist down there for some reason and Angelo is still his fake humble "What? Me? Little old me? I WON?", self. (Side note, I see him all the time and bitch is TALL and YUMMY. Sadly he still thinks he's straight)
In any case, every week I get more Carla and Tiffany, I'm happy. I'm really pumped for this season and the first episode was a good one. What a great idea for the first elimination challenge. It's nice to see Jamie, Jennifer Aniston, Tiffany, Antonia and Carla back. Hopefully, Carla won't listen to her this time. Still have a huge crush on Fabio. There is something about his personality that I adore. Angelo seems like a nice guy, but there always seems to be something calculated and disingenuous about him. Maybe it's just me. Or maybe he just needs to come out. I don't know what it is, but I've never been impressed with him. Richard irks me to no end. I'm glad he was disqualified from winning, but I'm sort of sick of him having the find the quirkiest and longest way to prepare any dish. Spike played it so smart. He took a risk and it totally paid off.
On the flip side, if Sourpuss (Jennifer) acts so completely shocked every time the judges criticize her food, she won't be around long, which is okay with me. At least they didn't bring back Lisa, who was probably the ultimate Bitchface in top Chef history.
If Elia's fish hadn't been undercooked, Stephen would definitely have gone home. I don't think Stephen will be around for long. He seems completely out of his league.

It makes me so happy to see all my old chef-testants. Tiffani has lost a lot of weight-I think it is because she let go of all her rage :)

Just checked out this episode. Looks like it'll be a good season.

I had a feeling Elia would go the very moment one of the other chefs mentioned the scale being on their fish. When you prepare fish that's a big no no and overall, her dish seemed uninspired. Which is sad, because that girl has potential.
Overall, I'm happy with the chefs they chose to come back except that I would have liked to have seen Jeff. (But that's not saying I'm not happy for Carla and Fabio!) I'm looking forward to this season and what challenges await them. The first elimination one wasn't too bad.

I'm not a fan of the show, but I watched this episode with my wife, who is a fan. Elia seemed doomed by her own arrogance; she said she thought her dish had been good enough, and didn't even attempt to improve it. For what is supposedly an 'all-star' edition, there sure seemed to be some mediocre chefs in the mix.

I agree that Stephen is out of his league. They just needed another memorable contestant from the first season, so I guess they picked him? Personally, I would have loved to see Dave in this season. He could hold his own and wouldn't be an obvious dud contestant.

I hated to see her go, but her fiesty smack talk to the judges was the stuff of reality show dreams. I've had dinner at 10Arts several times and her food really is over the moon. But, who the hell boils bacon?
