Marcel's hair and sideburns scare me. Truly hideous.
You can't hate something about someone unless you hate it about yourself. People are mean to Marcel because he represents their fears. Marcel is nerdy, intellectual, and less of a warm person. People react to that by attacking him. It is funny that it seems like his co-workers like him, his roomies like spending time with him and cooking with him at home and Elia worked with him and liked him. The hatred doesn't add up and I think the judges sensed that. I think the problems speak to Betty, Sam, and Ilan's personality disorders and need to be liked more than Marcel's shortcomings.
I personally didn't see anything out of the ordinary that Marcel did to piss everyone off. He wasn't nasty, vengeful, etc. It just seems like the other chefs were threatened by what he had to offer and took it from there.
I guess Food and Wine blew the finale by mistakenly releasing an article on the web with the supposed winner yesterday - it was pulled from the site after it was discovered posted, but it clearly was an interview with the supposed winner.

Food and Wine - You Blew It!
SPOILER ALERT - DON'T CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!!!!
Bravo's 'Top Chef 2' winner prematurely revealed by 'Food & Wine?'
Yep, BuddyTV has had this story on it's site since Monday. I thought about posting it but figured that people might want to not know until the episode airs. As YouWantitWhen???? said, "don't click if you don't want to know" but that the fact that it's there I assume that most people will read it.
The episode was interesting to say the least. Ilan drags Elia into the whole Marcel mess and then neither him or Sam back her up at all. It made her look dumb! Marcel is an asshole, weasel, and seems would not be the best to work for and I believe he was not one of the consistently best. With shows with only judges who "decide" I feel like Marcel was kept for the sake of ratings....Kind of sad. I do not care who wins anymore I really wanted Elia but would have been ok with Sam.
I'm watching the finale right now.
I like Marcel more than Ilan, but I think Ilan should win. He is a much better chef than Marcel, and Marcel doesn't really deserve to be in the finale.
I enjoyed the contest and I really didn't care who won. I kind of felt Sam would face off against Ilan in the finale. How could Marcel lose his fish?

Great show, we all watched it. The right selection was made.
So, who won?

AC, the right choice was made. My son was rooting for the loser.
Spoiler
boooo! i'm upset...
if you read all the blogs, my problem is, apparently more than half of the Spanish themed dishes that Ilan created were on the menu at his Spanish restaurant... Marcel created and made his own original dishes...
Maybe having a staff who will want to work with you counts for something.
I've had a crush on Marcel all season......he is into guys? :)
Okay, kill me for asking!

This finale was just as satisfying as the episode before it -_-
Ridiculous, Sam being eliminated in favor of Ilan was shocking. Tonight was even more shocking.
I was all set to write a scathing review of last night's episode, but when I woke up this morning, I realized I just can't put the effort in.
What I've learned from Bravo's Project Runway and now Top Chef: Be an a'hole, win a competition. UGH. The bad guys are taking over!

I actually think Sam should have won, but alas, I was rooting for Marcel once Sam and Elia were out.
I like Spanish food as much as the next person, but I didn't see a lot of innovation or creativity throughout the show. Marcel has more vision. I though he should have won.
And in terms of Ilan being more mature than Marcel (which the judges were insinuating last night), I don't buy it. From what I've seen on the show, I can't imagine how this would be true.
Wrong person won iMHO, but I haven't tasted the food. Perhaps Ilan's dishes tasted better overall!
Ah well. Next season....
Yeah, Peach, but funny how Elia KNEW Ilan's dish was better without tasting Marcel's. Ha! OH I used to adore you, Elia, but you've made such an idiot of yourself.
And I agree on the maturity thing. WHO was the one that giggled gleefully like a schoolgirl when Cliff pinned down Marcel. Yes, that would be ILAN.
OK, apparently I still have some anger over this...ha.

Elia and Marcel were my favorites in the beginning but how THAT changed once the whole 'good Catholic girl' thing changed and I saw she was just as petty and ridiculous as the rest of them. What a disappointment!
I suspect that much of Marcel's behavior was left on the cutting room floor and that he was edited to appear innocent and victimized. There had to be a reason that EVERYONE, except Elia, had some sort of issue with him, that just doesn't come out of nowhere. I believe that Betty had him nailed. Elia worked with him in Las Vegas and already knew him prior to the show so she could deal with it.

Marcel would have won had they not found out he dug up Beethoven and stolen his hair.....
Let's see. Ilan's best dishes this season:
Fideos with clams - on the menu at Casa Mono
Battered leaf - on the menu at Casa Mono.
Gee, Ilan, great job of making what you were taught to make by other people. And a professional, mature, attitude to boot.
You're not the only bitter one, new girl
Did anyone catch The View today? Marcel was interviewed in the audience and Rosie gave him a set of Henckel knives. He was her favorite chef. He pretty much repeated the same things he said last night about why his fish was missing.
blame the other cooks...I loved the line "I'm not going for the 100 grand...YOU find the fish!"
Marcel's an ahole, and Elia was not turned against him by Ilan and Sam...he moved her stuff without asking, and it seemed to not have been the first time. She said he is disrespectful in the kitchen. Sounds to me like Marcel's bad behaviour caught up with him in her eyes.
Marcel's fish dish was saved by Sam.
Regardless if Ilan's dishes were taken from what he knows, they clearly liked them better...he's something of a d-bag in training, but Marcel is a master.

Also, don't forget that all of the judges found it odd that Marcel would make one of the five courses of his "ultimate meal" a basic little salad with radishes. Even if the teardrop vinagrette thing had been included, it seemed that that one dish was the least impressive of all of the dishes served by Marcel and Ilan. Add to that, the fact that the judges knew that Sam was responsible for saving Marcel's fish dish (without the fish) and it's not hard to see why Ilan won.
