Trip to London, should I?
#0Trip to London, should I?
Posted: 5/2/06 at 9:40pmOk I am almost 21 years old (this November). I just found out I can take a four day trip to London for less than 1700 dollars. My parents don't think it's a wise idea and fear for my saftey and want me to save my money. I really want to take the trip now while I still have the money, as opposed to when I graduate and am forced to pay my college debt. What should I do?

Well, I'm biased as it is my favorite city.
There is nothing that would make you any less safe than going to NYC or DC, so that's not an issue.
I think you should see what this trip covers to make sure it really is a good deal.
Money is always an issue... if you are going to be pressed, consider going later. But, if you are going to spend it anyway, London is a fantastic place to do it!

What are you planning to do there? Are you going with anyone?
Are you going to see shows? (ie: Wicked)

Posted: 5/2/06 at 10:08pmThere are much nicer places in Europe, ie Rome, Paris, Vienna...etc, BUT.....for that price, GO!!!!!!

I'm not afraid of what will happen there, I'm afraid up disappointing my parents, which is something i've tried not to do for 20 years and have succeeded. I don't want to upset them
I play to at least see wicked, maybe another play. and do sight seeing.

So, you've got to factor in transportation (Taxis are crazy-expensive, so avoid them at all costs), food (also very expensive--at least double than in the US), and entertainment etc.
If you can cover all that, then it's ok.
If you do go, I suggest doing a lot of planning beforehand. 3 days in London is not a lot of time and you will waste your money if you do not cram your days full. Make detailed daily plans and outline how to get from place to place, etc. You won't regret it.

millie, you can travel with me ANYTIME.......we are spending a month in Europe in July, and we have it all planned out......except for the week in Prague as I refuse to plan that.
no regrets wickedly....YOU GO....live your life, not your parents....they'll come around.

Posted: 5/2/06 at 10:14pmWP - do it FOR YOURSELF. You deserve it and it's time you realized that. You can't live your life for your parents, as much as that seems like the right thing to do. One day they'll be gone and you'll realize that you've been living every day of your life for people who are no longer there. You won't be young again - so do it. Now. Be excited about it, have fun, bring them back souvenires. Just do it.
A click for life.

Deal!
However, you might want to make Tuscany the last stop as we may not survive it.

I agree with everyone else. I say, take this opportunity and GO!
I've been there twice and it's a very cool city. One of my favorites!

Posted: 5/2/06 at 10:54pmUm. Let me think. YES! GO!!!! Your parents have a point about saving your money, but honestly...you can't take it with you when you die, and there's only so much you can save before it becomes rediculous. Sieze the day! London is a fantastic city, I highly recommend seeing it (several times, if possible).

Posted: 5/2/06 at 10:54pmI will just like to mention that when taking this trip I WILL be 21, but will still have to come back home after the trip, where I live under the same roof with my parents who still partially pay for college

#23re: Trip to London, should I?
Posted: 5/2/06 at 11:15pmI agree with everyone here. I am like you too, I try hard not to disappoint and I think I have been a pretty good daugher, with not giving them too much to worry about. I myself had planned to go to London this fall, with or without their blessing, but fortunatly for me they were cool with it. If they had told me that they didnt want me to go and brought up tons of saftey and money issues, I can't say I wouldnt be dissapointed, like i know you are... but it is YOUR life, you are 21 and that price is sweet ass! And if they are upset, it WILL blow over and then you will have this amazing experience to remember the rest of your life.

Posted: 5/2/06 at 11:16pmSo i just got off the phone with my mom and when i tell my mom and she says "do what you want it's your money" yet you can hear the disappointment and no in her voice. so it's hard to do it and i hate that because i'm almost 21 years old it's not like i'm 5, she said "it's not like you are going to the next state, you're going across the ocean" and I understand that, but what happens after i graduate and I have no money because of debts. What happens when I never get that money back and turn into my parents who never go anywhere because they can't afford to
