Oh my God, did I really write "September"? I meant "semester". (Duh - "essay"? WTF, eejit??)
Just got home from a LONG day on The Cleaner. Cedric The Entertainer had me in tears of laughter. We were both lined up for the single bathroom on set, and the grip who opened the door right before Cedric went in was all, "Oh dude, I'm so sorry. If I knew you were next in line, I wouldn't have...uh...well, it smells AWFUL in there. I really had a...ahh...it just...it's not good." and Cedric's all, "Aw, man! You're kiddin' me. That's nasty." And then he goes in there, and pops back out like 20 seconds later, totally disgusted, going, "Brotha shoulda CANNED that scent and got it tested, DAYUM!" And I was stuck going in after The Grip and Cedric The Entertainer's ass stenches. So uncool.
Call time is 8am tomorrow. I'm exhausted.
Oooh, Tiff! Sounds like you're pooped! Transferring "September" for "semester." Early weekend calls...*shakes head*
That Cedric moment sounded highly amusing! At least you've got stuff like that to get you through the day, right?!
I'm flying solo for the day, and I'm trying to get some of my SH*T together. I'm having footwear troubles. Ugh! Tiff, I think I'll just hang on to your stuff until October if that's ok. I'm just getting too bogged down. Poor groupie! I've been dragging my feet for months. I'm a bad faux cyber-buddy.
I'm also having some serious issues with the sheer volume of crap I've accumulated. I come from a long line of compulsive over-packers, and I'm really not looking forward to packing my stuff up to move back into the dorms. Every year I say I'm going to cut back, and yet...I just don't think I have it in me.
Anyway, guess that's about it. Back to "packing," and then the Sox'll be on at 4! Hooray! There are only so many that I actually catch on TV, so I'm kind of (pathetically) excited.
That's why it's great to be a Braves fan (living in the U.S.). TBS. A Braves game pratically every night. I'm mad I'm missing them; Chipper, one of my future husbands, is batting over .500 in the month of August and I wanna see it!
Good luck packing, Mabs! I know how hard it is. When school ended in May I had so much crap that it barely fit into my car (a tiny Mitsubishi eclipse) and my parent's car (an Acura MDX, which is pretty big). I think we took at least 20 trips between my dorm and the cars. I'm a packrat. You can imagine how hard it was for me to pack to come here.
Tiff, that's hilarious. Cedric sounds so funny! At least you're being 'entertained' while you're at work, even if you do have to put up with some crap! (sorry, that was so corny).
And each SEMESTER is about the same as in the U.S. (about 4.5 months). Although it's different because there's more time allocated for finals. Classes end October 13th and finals end November 12th. I have, like, 2 weeks in between finals, which is great, especially because it'll be warmer then. I'll be hangin' out at the beach!
Wow, another Braves fan! Nice.
This probably could be found in this thread, but it's WAY too long to sort through.
Does anyone know who is scheduled to open for U2 at MSG on the November dates? I read something about Kanye West, but wasn't sure if that was the Oct or the Nov dates.
Thanks in advance.
Hey! A U2 fan and a Braves fan? Why haven't we met before?!
We're still waiting for confirmation on who's opening. It hasn't been announced yet. Kanye West and Super Furry Animals have both been rumored to open some shows in the 3d leg, but no dates have been set.
Are you seeing U2 in November? Which show? (I'll be at the 11/21 MSG concert).
I will also be at the 11/21 show!
I've been a lurker for a bit, a relatively new poster though, that could be why we haven't chatted.
I'll be flying into NY on the 19th of Nov. My tickets leave a little something to be desired, but hey, I'll be seeing U2 in MSG, right?
I'm glad you decided to post here!
I'm arriving in the area on 11/18, after a semester abroad. I'm rushing home to see U2. Have you been to any of their concerts before?
I have actually. I saw the Elevation tour here in Los Angeles. U2 live is just an unreal experience. How about you?
The 5/21/05 Vertigo concert @ MSG was my first. I wish I could have seen the Elevation tour!
Hi Patronus!! Don't even bother trying to weed through this thread. We haven't really been chatting about U2 lately (it's been kind of slow, news-wise other than the rumors about the Fantastic Fuzzy Critters and Kanye West).
Just to get you kind of caught up, Type_A_Tiff, Ellie and I are going to the MSG show on 10/8 and then Tiff and I are going on the 10th (and I'm a nut, so I'm going on the 14th too)...they're all nosebleeds or behind the stage.
Shall I run off the litany of other shows we've seen? Aww, what the hell?!
I saw my first U2 show in November (the free Brooklyn Bridge show) and also saw the first Boston show in the spring (friends dragged their feet getting tix, so we missed out on Elevation)
Tiff saw the second Seattle show (quite the excellent show w/ Gloria and Bad!)
Jezebel, our buddy from Dublin saw the third Dublin show (very, very jealous...it sounded like one hell of a show)
Elphie went to MSG in May...one day we'll catch a concert together! Bad timing, my friend.
And groupie, who's been missing for lately caught a ZooTV show and saw the second San Diego show.
Aaanyway, welcome Pat!
Yeah, it was a pretty incredible experience. We had amazing seats in the floor right by the "VIP section" and there were a ton of celebrities in there. A really good time.
I am hoping that I have the same experience from the 300 section at MSG.
I'll be in New York from Saturday late afternoon to Thursday early afternoon and I am seeing 6 broadway shows and U2, so it will certainly be jammed pack.
Sounds like a busy week! I'm so jealous of your amazing Elevation seats. I was pretty close at the Brooklyn gig...I think that's as close as I'll ever get. No luck w/ GAs this time around.
What shows are you seeing?
It's forever changing actually...this is the current line up. The shows in bold we have already bought tickets to and are firm.
Saturday eve: Rent
Sunday mat: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Sunday eve: Spelling Bee (SRO)
Monday eve: U2 @ Madison Square Garden!
Tuesday eve: The Light in the Piazza
Wednesday mat: Wicked (although, we may try and sell these to see something else (Hairspray or Trailer Park) after recently seeing it in San Francisco)
Wednesday eve: Sweeney Todd (Tickets go on sale tomorrow)
Wow! You're definitely making the most of your trip to NYC. My seats are pretty bad as well (200 level behind the stage), but just being in the building is worth it to me.
And Mabs, I again suggest that you listen to some of Super Furry Animals' music, I think you'll like it.
My seats are 300 section, but I am facing the stage. That's something.
Hey, if any of you have seen DRS, could you take a look at this thread:
https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.cfm?thread=864249&dt=082005091433
I am trying to decide if I am being too anal about seating.
For DRS: I saw it through lotto, so I was in the front row on the left aisle of the center section (does that make sense?). I had a perfect view from there. I don't think your view would be obstructed from the seats you have based on my knowledge of the sets, but I haven't sat there so I don't know for sure. I don't think it would make that big of a difference.
Thanks. I appreciate the response. That's basically what I figured, but I am really striving for this to be an amazing trip, so I'd deal with the hassle if I was losing something from the left orchestra seats.
Also, if you guys have any recommendations as to what to see instead of that Wicked matinee, feel free to toss them at me. :)
I really appreciate you all being so welcoming. Some of the other people on this board can be a bit scary.
So, #1Elphie - how about Francoeur?
Updated On: 8/20/05 at 09:25 PM
I'm in NZ so I can't watch any Braves games, and I wish I could see Francoeur play! I love reading about how well he's doing, though! And he's kinda cute.
When I get back, the first show I plan on seeing (well, second actually, but the first one closes on the 20th) is the Woman in White. I've heard great things about it's London run and I just finished reading the novel, which is amazing. Hairspray is a fun option, though, and a safer bet because tWiW hasn't even opened yet and who knows what kind of reviews it'll get. I'm (obviously) a Wicked fan, so I wouldn't discount that option so quickly either!
I can't say much about your row A tix at DRS. Both times I saw it I sat in the very last row of the theatre...I think the closest I've been at The Imperial is row S!
Personally, I'm not much of a Wicked fan (sorry, Elph!) I saw it once w/ the OBC, and I'd only really be tempted to go back if someone of interest joined the cast. I've heard very good things about Ana Gasteyer in Chicago...It was OK, and I'm glad I saw it, but I'm more of an Avenue Q girl. What other shows do you like...that might influence what I'd recommend. I definitely enjoyed DRS, Piazza, Spelling Bee (though I had kind of crappy seats for that, w/ the lotto) and I'll be looking forward to Sweeney Todd (LOVE Cerveris). While I don't like ALW at all, I've heard very good things about The Woman in White (and especially about Michael Ball's performance, and I believe he's supposed to be doing it here).
Woman in White is on my short list, but I want to see some reviews first.
A friend of mine saw it in London and really liked it (also not a big ALW fan). It doesn't open until November, so you may be cutting it too close to get tix (though it is at the Marquis, so I doubt they'll be selling out in that cavernous theatre). You could check out some of the reviews from London. I'm pretty sure it's the same production (direction, design, etc) correct?? And I've read Michael Ball and Maria Friedman are supposed to be doing it here, so I guess at least a chunk of the cast will be the same (though Michael Crawford opened in it, didn't he...whatever, I heard he was terrible anyway)
Yep, I think it's pretty much the same team behind it.
If I were you, I would hold onto the Wicked tickets and decide what to see a little later, when you know more about your options.
Okay folks, I'm off!
Yeah, that's the other problem for me. I am not an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan, really. I like Joseph and JCS and that's about it.
I subscribe to Virgin Digital and just loaded it up to preview some of Woman in White and frankly, I was kind of bored.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing Lennon, but I question whether it will survive until late November. The Odd Couple would be amazing, but tickets for that are INSANE.
Bye, Elpie!
Yeah, I have my doubts that Lennon will still be there. And The Odd Couple does seem pretty crazy. Maybe SRO? I don't know for sure if that theatre has it or not...No interest in straight plays? Doubt?
Bye Elphie, nice to meet you!
I am not opposed to straight plays, but I am more of a musical guy and there is no shortage of things that I'd really like to see.
