I just took a peek at Playbill's list of upcoming plays. I guess there wasn't anything that's "not to be missed" from the looks of things. Pity you'll miss The Pillowman. I'd have to insist upon your seeing that if you could.
I go to school in the city, so I think it'd be near impossible to just pick 5 or 6 shows knowing that that's going to be it. Sounds like you've got some pretty great selections, so you'll have a great time!!
If Pillowman was still going to be playing while I was there, you wouldn't have to insist. I'd be going. Billy Crudup is one of my favorite actors.
As it stands right now, it's likely between keeping the Wicked tickets, Hairspray or Avenue Q. I am hesitant to use the tickets on Hairspray, Avenue Q or Spamalot as all three will be playing in Vegas which could make for some fun weekend trips.
So, if I go for something that isn't as readily available I am probably looking at Trailer Park and I haven't yet checked to see if they have a Wed matinee.
Regardless of what I pick, I am sure we'll have a blast seeing U2 and the shows.

Hi and Welcome Patronus!
It'd be a shame if you didn't see at least one play while you were in NYC - support the underdogs!
And mabel, your little recap made me realize that I'm the only one of the 'regulars' who hasn't actually seen U2 yet.
Thanks for the welcome, Ellie3. Nice work on the first post of this thread!
Just for conversations sake, if I was to see a play, is Doubt the no brainer assuming I can't get Odd Couple?
Ooooh, for shame, Els! Well, it's not so long now. A month an a half *hint, hint* Tiff. Any new news on the plane ticket?
Oh, and Pat, I've heard that the Vegas shows are going to be shortened. I don't know if that's something that would be a big deal for you or not, but I don't think they're supposed to be the full/actual shows. At least, I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere. I love Avenue Q, though I haven't seen it w/o the original cast, so I'm not sure how the replacements measure up.
Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the shortened thing. That's Vegas for you - you don't want to keep the people away from the slot machines too long.
Well, I think Doubt will be the only straight play still running from this season, and I can't really comment on the buzz for any of the other shows (besides THC, obviously!) The Pillowman was AMAZING, and I totally have a (not so) little thing for Billy Crudup. He's fabulous! Watching Almost Famous for the zillionth time, as we speak.
Doubt was very good, but I was a smidge disappointd by it (since I'd heard nothing but raves for months on end)...that and my seat SUCKED. That definitely didn't help. The doorway to the balcony at the Kerr should be boarded up!

Will 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' or 'Glengarry GlenRoss' still be playing? Have you seen either of those, Mabs?
U2 MSG - Yikes, is it only a month and a half away??
Oh, I love Almost Famous. Such a great film.
I am certain that Glengarry will be closed by then, not sure about Virginia Wolf.
Hopefully we'll get a decent production of Pillowman out here in Los Angeles.
U2-MSG=7 weeks from today, correct? Or did I count wrong? The weeks are a-flyin'!!!
Both Glengarry Glen Ross and WAOVW? will be closed. I saw both and really enjoyed them...WAOVW? more though, definitely. I think Glengarry closes next Sunday, and Virginia closes September 4th (I'll be there in the balcony w/ bells on!)

7 weeks...hmmm, I better get plannin'. (Or better yet, get someone else to!) Aww, I wanted to see WAOVW, and Glengarry too. Alan Alda is a sexy beast.
I am giving serious thought to ordering this shirt from their website to wear to the concert:
They had a really cute T-shirt at the Boston show that I'm kicking myself now for not getting. I hope they have it in October.
Ellie, you don't have a whole lot of planning to do, do you? Are you staying in the city overnight or taking a late train/bus back? It's Miss Tiffany that I'm worried about! I made fun of her months ago for scheming (but really, it was like...January!) but now it's starting to get quasi-close!

Oh, it's definitely an over-nighter...I hardly ever go to New York (), despite living relatively close, but when I do I do it in style! And eek, Tiff had better get on it quicksmart! The longer she waits, the higher the flight fare is likely to be, right?
And can I get some Alda love goin' on? I'd totally do him.
You know, this is totally irrational of me - but I despise Alan Alda because of his performance in "And the Band Played On."
Movie or not, Alda will always be on my "list" since he "sat" on the cure for AIDS.
Jerk.
Yes, I realize how compeltely insane it is, but for some reason, I simply can't seperate it.

Wait, what? He did or his character did?
<--- ignorant little girl
Ummm...I don't know if Alan would still have the stamina to do you, Ellie! I do love him though! He was great in GGR, and I went to a screening of The Aviator and he did a talk-back after and was hi-freaking-larious!
I don't know what else, Tiff wants. I found her a flight from Seattle that cost less than 400 CA (including the cost of the shuttle to/from Vancouver). So yeah, you best get on it...quicksmart(?!) Tiff!
His character did. His performance was so good in that movie it's made me hate him forever.
If you haven't seen "And the Band Played On" I highly recommend it.

I like him in the West Wing too...he's so much sexier than Jimmy Smits, dontchathink? And I've never seen 'And the Band Played On', but it sounds interesting. I don't want to hate him, though - he's my sexy sugar grandaddy.
ETA: He looks kind of toothless in this pic.
Wow, that's really quite disturbing. I like that.
I feel close to you all already. lol

AHAHAHAHAH!!!! Yeah, I'd say the crowd here has a pretty (how would you put it, Ellie) warped sense of humor.
Here's a picture from the M*A*S*H days. I couln't leave the Alda discussion on that note.
Warped is just how I like my humor. I think we'll get along fine.

I prefer the more distinguised grandfatherly look myself, Mabel.
And humor, what humor? I was being serious.
