Awww...there, there. Grampa Alda will make it all better!
ETA: The other picture was better, but it was ginormous. What a pisser...At least he has teeth in this one. I swear he didn't in that first picture. His dentures were O-U-T!

Dentures are hot. Can I scratch his itchy ass? (What does your signature refer to?)
I wonder if he has old-man ass cheeks, like that chap Samantha dated on SatC.
It's from The Pillowman. Billy's character's brother (who's a little...slow) goes on a bit about his itchy aaaassss. Though, since it's an Irish play, I suppose I should change it to "I've got one itchy aaaaarrrrrrsssssse."
Alright now, I do not need to be going to bed thinking about Alan Alda's puckered old-man cheeks.

I should've known...you and your Pillowman obsession! Pity it'll be closed when I'm in town for U2. Billy Crudup is another stud - no Alan Alda of course, but hot nonetheless.
Yeah, I am about to go watch Sin City and I am probably going to be thinking of Alda's ass the whole time.
Thanks a lot!
Alright folks. I'm off. I have to clean up some of the huge mess I made "cleaning up" and "packing" this afternoon. Packing tends to translate to thowing a lot of SH*T around and putting a DVD or two into a box. Definitely a lot of moving stuff from the coffee table in my room to a chair or the bed. *sigh* What a mess. I'm sure I'll have sweet(?) Alda-filled dreams tonight (and he'd best be fully clothed!) Thanks for that, Ellie.
Nice meeting ya, Patronus!
Catch y'all later!
Wow, you guys posted a lot while I was gone!
Patronus, welcome to the gang! Love your username! How come a U2 fan who's seen them before and has tickets for 11/21 hasn't graced us with your presence until now?? Make yourself at home here. You'll never want to leave. (Until Mabel or I, who probably spend the most time on here, leave. Then the thread dies.)
I finally have something U2-related to talk about! I'm reading a book called "The Rolling Stone Files: U2" (1994), which compiled all of the CD and concert reviews and band interviews from the start of their career until Zooropa. Has anyone read it? It's an interesting read and really shows how the band has stood the test of time. I'm circa 1987 now, during the TJT tour. Bono seems so much more candid and off-the-cuff in his actions and what he talks about - I wonder what which point did this change? (Did you know that as 'recently' as 82-84 he was hanging out with fans after the show, going back to sleep at their houses, inviting them to hang out in his hotel room, or asking those who were banging on his door to come in for tea? Gone are those days!) In a way, reading the book is sort of depressing because U2 (in their music and their persona) seems more like a commodity now, which is what Bono was trying to fight so hard in the '80s. I mean, HTDAAB is still a pleasant listen, but I think most of us on here wouldn't list any of their CDs in the last 10 years as being our absolute favorites! The difference though is that in the '90s, their music wasn't too great but they were at least trying to experiment artistically, but I think in the last 5 years, they've just been trying to make radio-friendly singles.
And yes, yes, yes, I must get down to planning! Only trouble is the parents are getting on my ass about my financial situation, lack of looking for a new job in the new year (I'll likely have to quit my pharmacy job in the late fall because I'm not allowed to book off time over the holidays, and we've already paid for the FL/Carib vaca! No way in hell am I ditching that!), and lack of "focus and direction" on my part in terms of my education and career. In the mean time, I'm monitoring the prices roundtrip from Seattle. Let's plan the fun things we're going to do in New York!
I'll be in:
Friday (morning)
Saturday (U2 show at night)
Sunday (my birthday!!)
Monday (U2 show at night)
Tuesday (leaving for the airport around noontime)
And Alan Alda?? Sexy?? Well, this is Ellie we're talking about. But I mean, if Jack White had a brother...
RRORR!! (jk)
Hey, Tiff...Still around? I'm taking a mini break from "packing" (aka, making a bigger mess, if that's at all possible).
I'm sorry things seem to be going kind of sour w/ your folks. Sounds to me like PAing is nothing to sneeze at. I mean, you were going to get paid, what, $28/hr for that commercial?!? And you've only been at it for a couple of months. I'd imagine once you get some more time under your belt and work on some high profile projects/get a little more responsibility than coralling the extras, you'd be able to move up to a pretty more substantial position. Weren't you looking into potentially getting into producing?
Dunno what else we should do. I know you wanted to see Lennon, though I have my doubts that it'd still be open by then.
Oh, and I had heard things about Bono crashing on fans floors in the early 80s etc...While it's not the same now, you still read random stories about fans getting a ride w/ him. There was a story on interference from a couple years ago where some chick was in Dublin and he gave her a ride back to her hotel from the studio (there was a picture and everything, so it's not like she made it up...though from what I recall, I think she may have embellished some things).
Thanks for the welcome Tiff! The short answer as to why I haven't posted in this thread is that I like to sort of get a feel for a board before posting. Don't want to be like some of these kids that come on without getting a feel for the dynamic of things. Not to mention, a nearly 3000 post thread can be a bit intimidating to walk into.
I am glad you like my username. I've been using it on various message boards for a while now. I love it's multiple meanings, ya know?
Nice picture of Alan Rickman btw. I can safely say as a married man that he's far sexier than Alan Alda. Snape is my favorite HP character.
I love his delivery of my favorite line in Prisoner of Azkiban:
"That's twice today that you have spoken out of turn, Miss Granger. Can you not control yourself or do you just enjoy being an insufferable know-it-all."
whoops, double post. Updated On: 8/21/05 at 05:25 PM
That's the most delayed double-post I've ever seen! (7 minutes??) Did the site freeze for a few minutes, or was that just for me?
Snape is one of my faves too. Stragely, I have a soft spot for Snape and the Malfoys (more because I love watching Jason Isaacs on screen, so any time Lucius isn't really in the book, I get a little sad - he won't be in TOotP! ). Are you convinced that Snape is actually a bad-gone-good-gone-'pretend'-bad-but-is-really-good after reading HP6?
Mabs, I came back. If we don't see Lennon, there's a thousand other shows I'd like to see as well. (Esp. Ave Q and Spelling Bee!)
I was talking to the director's assistant yesterday about getting into that sector of the industry, and he told me a lot of pay as a personal assistant can be **** - as in, $600/week salary. Isn't that awful?? But he said the stuff you learn and the networking you can do is priceless.
The site did freeze right as I was posting it I think. Oh well, the double post will get me one step closer to my inevitable Broadway legend status.
Book 6 spoilers below...
There is no doubt in my mind that Snape is NOT a bad guy. All of the talk of casting spells without speaking plus the never explained argument between Snape and Dumbledore outside of Hagrid's cabin makes me feel that they were arguing about Snape not breaking the unbreakable vow even if it means killing Dumbledore.
What do you think you're going to do, Tiff? Is that $600/week for 70-80 hour/week too?? Since it sounds like you've always got crazy hours.
Well, we can play the shows by ear. Spelling Bee has SRO that's supposed to be pretty decent, and the last few rows at Q are $40, I think. I sat in the last row for John Tartaglia's last, and it was surprisingly decent. That theatre is TINY.
BTW, I did get my Sweeney Todd tickets so that show is set in stone. I am 2nd row Center on the aisle - so that should be close enough to see Patti's uvula clear as can be. :)
I now have Saturday evening, Sunday evening and Wednesday mat (I am going to sell Wicked for sure) open to divide between Rent, Spelling Bee, Hairspray, Avenue Q, Trailer Park and possibly Naked Girl on Appian Way.

Hi, Patronus - don't know if I'm considered one of the gang, but welcome anyway! They all sound like good choices to me - but if I'm not mistaken I think Trailer Park and Naked Girl on the Appian Way are limited runs, while the others are open-ended, so you may want to see one of those while they're still here. Of those, I've only seen Rent and Hairspray and they were both tremendous.
According to Playbill.com - Trailer Park is open ended, but on Telecharge for tickets, they don't sell tickets past 11/20, which just so happens to be a night I'll be in town.
Thanks for the welcome btw. Who is that in your avatar, she's stunning and really familiar looking.
I'm so jealous of your 2nd row tix to Sweeney Todd. I love Michael Cerveris, but alas, I fear I'll be up in the $35 seats in the balcony...unless they have student rush or something up front.
I was one of the few people that actually liked The Violet Hour, so I'll definitely be checking out Appian Way. RENT seems to be touch and go these days, depending on who's in the cast. I'm 2 for 3 w/ good casts, but I've found that when the cast is lackluster, the show's age really shows. I saw Hairspray w/ the Original Cast, and I really liked it...don't know why I've never gone back to see it again?? Oh, and Spelling Bee was great fun too...don't really have much to comment on Trailer Park though.
Hey Jez! Of course you're one of the gang!!
Am I in the gang yet officially or do I still have to earn my BWW/U2 stripes.
I'm back! You and Jez are almost part of the gang. In order for you to be a full-fledged member, you need to do two things:
1) Fill out a lengthy set of U2 related questions that us regulars filled out during a dry spell a while back (just about your own personal taste), which can be found tens of pages ago (since I'm nice, I'll go look for them).
2) Acknowledge that Celine Dion is an evil embarrassment to Canada.
3) Ignore anything Ellie3 says.
Geez, Pat! You haven't even been here for 24 hrs yet have you?
Who am I kidding? Sure y'are! I mean if Ellie's in the gang and she hasn't even seen U2 yet...Ouch, I think that may have been below the belt. Sorry, El!
Mabs, I'll start looking into show availability and stuff for...maybe Friday night, Saturday matinee and Sunday night/matinee? (Not, of course, that we can (afford to) go to all of them, but just to see what the options are).
And yeah, that would be $600 for 5-6 16-18 hour days, and then possible weekends if you're needed. Isn't that an obscenely small amount of money? Then again, PAs have to work harder than Personal Assistants do - they just have to sit behind the monitor and wait for whatever errand the director needs them to run. I think they also have to help with script revisions though, which I would really like to do.
And hi, Jez!
Yeah, if I recall correctly, Tiff almost failed that little questionnaire miserably. What was it? Achtung Baby was your favorite album of the 80s?? *snickers*
Oooooh, if you find the questionaire, I'll go through it!
Haha. Yeah, sorry, Tiff, but you didn't exactly pass that questionnaire with flying colors.
I love Alan Rickman, more than Alan Alda! I still think Snape is a bad guy, though. I hope I'm wrong, but I really doubt it.
Tiff, yeah, that is kind off ridiculous for those hours...though, sometimes I guess you've got to pay your dues to get in there, and if it's something that you love to do, and you'd be gaining invaluable experience...it's a tough call.
Maybe we could go for one pair of tix ahead of time and then just try for lottos/rush for whatever else we might be interested in??
