So do they all die in a big massacre or was your theory of them flashing forward to each of their deaths turn out to be right?
Maybe I should just watch it...
Bleh, I'm all depressed now.

Shhh...no one else needs to know that! It's just good to have someone on my side!
I actually did like the ending...the rest just...I don't know. Ellie, you'll have to let me know what you think after you watch it. I have a feeling I'm going to remain in the minority on this one though.

But...does knowing 'they all die' spoil it for me?
I'm going to watch it anyway, but I want to know if there's any surprises left.

You should watch it...I don't think you know anything that will "ruin" the episode for you.
ETA: Now go away so I can tell Elphie about the big ol' bloodbath...just kidding. Really, it's Six Feet Under, not The Sopranos!

Do you really want to know or are you going to bitch at me when I tell you what the skinny is??? Here it's up to you...
Yeah...they flash forward at the very end and show how the Fishers all die. While it was beautifully done, I wish they'd set aside more than 2 or 3 minutes for it.

Posted: 8/21/05 at 11:09pmWell, I did ask for it! I just wish I hadn't seen that thread title. Oh well! Do they have Claire etc. in old-woman make up?

Posted: 8/21/05 at 11:10pmIt's very good. The first season is excellent. You should order it on Netflix when you get home...actually, I think they've just realeased Season 4 on DVD, so by the time (assuming you like it) you get through Seasons 1-4, the final season will probably be out on DVD. It definitely had its peaks and valleys, but I definitely loved it on the whole. It used to be a lot quirkier, and it kind of lost that in the past season or two, which was kind of sad.

Posted: 8/21/05 at 11:12pmThere was no humor in the last season, it was just way too depressing. And yet I watched. They dragged out the whole Lisa thing for far too long!

Spoilers...tis up to you, Ellie:
Yeah. Some of the make-up was better than others. I'm going to go into a bit more detail below. I don't know that it'll ruin it (I won't go into how everyone died/when, etc)
It just felt like system overload, a bit. Like you wanted to check out how everyone looked/how they aged, and then pow. Flash the tombstone screen. Cue: SH*T! I missed how old they were! Not that it was really that important. It really should have been more of a mood thing, but it was just like Bam! Bam! Bam! While I loved the idea, there were things about it that I found myself just saying "Nooooo waaaaaay!"

Posted: 8/21/05 at 11:19pmYeah, I hated Lisa. And I love how the kind of just ignored how they ended last season this season. I read somewhere that Alan Ball wanted to end it a couple seasons ago (you may not want to read this Elphie........) after Nate "died" the first time. I guess it did seem to drag a bit since. Episodes would be kind of hit or miss.

I'll try to NetFlix it when I get home, it looks like a great show.
Yesterday my flatmate and I were joking about how, when I get home, I'll be watching tv for 2 months straight until I have to go back to school again. My mom is fueling my obsessions and taping Gilmore Girls and The O.C. for me while I'm gone. So I'll go tv-crazy! (none of my friends will be home, so, besides working, I won't have much else to do. Besides coming into the city to bother you, mabs.

Well, it sounds great to me! You were just disappointed with it as a finale, right? Not because it was one of the 'miss' episodes?
And I didn't really hate Lisa, just they dragged her whole death out over about three seasons! (Just to be clear - it was her brother-in-law who murdered her, right?) And I couldn't believe it when I saw her pop up in this season...draw a line under and move on, already!!!

I don't know...It's an odd thing. As I was watching it, I was like "this is kind of disappointing." It was 40 minutes+ in, and it was starting to feel like it was dragging and there was no way it could wrap up in 1/2 hour, but as I'm thinking back over the episode there are points where I'm thinking "wow, I really liked this scene," or "that was a really powerful moment," etc...I think what irked me was not making the time progression clear. There were a couple of "wait, what?" moments, where you know some time had to have passed (not spoiling anything, btw...you'll be better off knowing months passed) and I think they could have remedied it really easily. And the end sequence was really powerful, save one person that I had a few qualms w/.
ETA: Bother me all you want, Elphie! We'll have lots of shows to see!!! Unfortunately, I'll probably only be around for a few weeks after you get back. I don't know when the fall semester ends, but it's usually only a couple of weeks into December.

Oh, do tell! (At least who, so I'll know when I watch it myself!)
I'm this close to clicking on the other thread - will it give away anything I don't already know?
And I really want to get the DVDs so I can look back at the first season, I haven't seen those episodes in forever. Ah, remember Nate and Brenda's first meeting at the airport?
Memories, memories...
BTW, Tiff doesn't watch it, right? We're not spoiling it for her in case she hasn't seen it, are we? Nah...

OK, here's what bothered me. Billy was still alive when Brenda died. He was w/ her. And she was OLD. I don't remember how old, but she was one of the last people to die. Billy always seemed like his days should have been numbered. Wouldn't it seem like he should have had some tragic death. Someone on one of the other threads pointed out that they were only showing The Fishers, but Billy seemed like he should have committed suicide or something at a young-ish age. The fact that he made it until he was old and grey and balding just didn't cut it for me.
And I don't think Tiff watches.

Thanks mabs! Don't worry, I'll definitely be in the city pretty often before your semester ends.
I'll leave y'all to your SFU discussion; I've got some work to do!

Hmm, that does sound not-quite-right. I woulda thought that maybe Billy would die in some twistedly tragic way, like a hail of police gunfire after holding someone (Claire?) hostage in one of his mental states, or something.
And I'm glad to hear that Brenda made it to old age - she deserved it! She's my favorite character.
I should go too...I've got some sleepin' to do.

I too was a bit let down by the ending, but glad it ended on a somewhat serene note.
I loved it when it first started, but it's just been so gratuitous over the last 2 seasons that I expected some big tragic ending.
My only suprise was that Billy didn't kill himself when Claire left.

Nope, I'm not an SFU watcher, so gabber away all you want! *picks nails*
Aww...this is post #2997. I'm probably (hopefully) going to Washington state tomorrow, so I won't be around for #3000! Well...maybe I will be...

Questionnaire for the big 3-0-0-0!! (Because face it, we're all a bunch of attention whore freaks who love to talk about ourselves!)
1. U2 Song and CD you didn't like at first but eventually grew on you.
2. U2 Song and CD you dislike the most.
3. Song cover you WISH they would do.
4. Top 3 songs you're looking most forward to seeing come the NYC concerts in the fall!
5. Prediction: Will there be a new CD out as early as next year? If so, will it equal HTDAAB, or be better/worse in terms of fan, critical and retail success?
6. Why do we keep coming back to this thread after Mabel suggested over 2 months ago that we let it die?
