Ooh, that sounds like fun, Mabel! How much is it costing you? I wonder if you could possibly nip out after Bono's intro and try and find him for an autograph or something! Then again, I'm sure he's guarded by twenty burly henchmen.
Patti Smith? Has to be better than K...I'm sorry, I can't even type it.
It was $25. Not so bad, I suppose. I wish it was mainly Bono doing the brunt of the lecture rather than just intros, etc...but he's so long winded, I'm sure he'd go on for a while. I don't think I'll skip out, but I'll probably try to get up there a little early and troll around to see if I can snag an autograph or something.
Patti Smith would be cool. I can't believe the 3rd leg starts in a couple of days and they still haven't made an official announcement for openers for the whole leg.
1. That is the funniest, most unflattering photo of the K**** guy ever. I would post it as my avatar, but I would just laugh too hard looking at it, and would constantly question why on earth you'd want to subject me to K**** not once, not twice, but THREE times in one week. (Mabel, a question: By the 10/14 show, who do you think we'll be more sick of? U2 or each other? )
2. That photo is so bad, that Ellie put up the most horrendous of Celine photos yet, and I've got nothin'. Because that K**** one is still stupider. *ROTF*
3. Ellie? You, me, drinkies on Saturday night? Woo!
4. Flight prices have stayed consistent over the last few days, but I told my mom a few days ago that I already paid for my non-refundable tickets so she'd stop dissuading me from going. Total bullSH*T, but now I can enjoy the peace and quiet of her giving me the silent treatment. Now to get up the courage to tell my dad, who apparently ranted to her in private the same day I told her I paid for the flight, "What, does she think I'm so stupid that I'll believe she's only going to New York to look for a job? She knows it's impossible to get a work visa. She just wants to go and see the things she missed last time she was there. If my parents could see how she turned out, they would be ashamed."
Sooo...he doesn't know I've "bought" my ticket yet.
5. We were blasting The Killers on set today. So which concert do I go to, Gwen or Killers? I like the Killers songs, but I would lick Gwen's bunions if she so desired.
6. Patti Smith, and we get F*CKing K****???!!! Where's the justice??
7. Lucky you, going to the Bono lecture! When are tix on sale?
8. Al Pacino starts filming a movie here next month! (The week I'm in NYC.) I'm thinking of applying as a personal assistant on that one. I'm sick of this production assistant crap.
1.) You should have seen the other one I had to remove because it was ginormous! Twas mahvahlous!!!
2.) Indeed, that was one truly hideous Celine pic, hence the white flag. There's no messin' w/ Ellie.
3.) No comment.
4.) Oh, Tiff...sorry things sound so touchy at home. We love you and your slightly "irresponsible" ways, so that's got to give you some fuzzy feelings, right?
5.) I like Gwen, but I think I'd go for The Killers...sounds like you're a bigger Gwen fan though, so I'd go for her.
6.) Patti Smith hasn't been confirmed. Maybe the lads will be so impressed w/ KEANE that they'll invite them back in November.
7.) Apparently the tix went on sale last week. Tix were $25 and $40. I got a $25 ticket, 4th row in the balcony.
8.) Ooooh, Al. We're *like this* Beware of the "Pacino staredown." I got one in the hall once or twice at Ui, and maintaining uncomfortably long eye contact w/ Pacino is just bizarre. Good luck!!!
3. It's okay, I'll have to buy you drinkies at some point that week. And I suppose I should sit through at least one Keane set, so I'm not an ungracious cunT, seeing as you're the reason I got my pair! (Of tickets...not boobs. I bought those myself.)
4. Thanks, Mabel. Now just call up my Dad and tell him that. (Thank GOD he doesn't know about the U2 concerts - then he would seriously go through the roof.)
6. I actually LOLed...the desire to spit the poor November folks by having K**** open again, followed by the scary hell-face emoticon was just funny. Or else I'm just really tired.
8. I remember you telling me about the staredown! How utterly terrifying! Funny thing is I was talking to another PA today, who's ex-girlfriend worked on the last Pacino flick shot here (not 'Insomnia', but the other one). And get this - she got fired because she actually hit him in the head with a swinging ladder while she was moving it. Hit. Al. Pacino. In. The. Head. With. A. Ladder. Apparently he was really nice about it, saying he knew it was an accident and playing it off, but since they had to cancel the rest of the day's filming, and re-schedule the next few days, the producers called up the locations department to have that PA fired for the rest of the shoot. Sort of a necessary evil, I guess, but seriously - is she likely to make that mistake again? I think not. (Al Pacino! Ladder! My doing! I would die.)
3.) I do want to see Keane at least once. I don't expect to drag you to all three shows, so if Ellie really doesn't want to see hobbit-boy, I have no problem going Monday or something (when we have the good seats...I read a Coldplay review from someone in 218, btw, and they said their seats were fabu!)
4.) Told your dad what? That you've got people that love you and your quasi-irresponsible ways (irresponsible wasn't really the word I was looking for, but it was the best I could come up w/ at 1am)?? Keep us posted on how that goes!
8.) I would die if I hit Pacino in the head w/ a ladder. Eeek! He seemed like a reasonably cool person, but he still has that Tony Montana-don't F*CK w/ me vibe about him. Still it's kind of cool to say I've "worked with" him (big ol' stretch there, but whatever, he asked me for a bottle of Evian )
Heehee. I get Patti Smith and you folks get Keane. Now I bet you're wishing you were coming to the November shows.
I saw that lecture being advertised on Interference and it looks cool, Mabs!

1. Please stop talking about K...*feels nauseous*...eane. Please! I'm sure my burning resentment/hatred is totally unfounded, but really - bring the chap to the vet, and have him put down. Is that too much to ask for? I think not.
5. Gwen! Tiff, you have to see her so I can live vicariously through you! Wait...things'll never be that bad. But wouldn't it be great if Gwen was supporting the boys in October? Gah, I woulda loved to have seen No Doubt on the last tour.
8. Al Pacino is sexy. But not as sexy as Alan Alda.
32. I just got rather click-happy on amazon, and ordered The Pillowman, amongst (many) other things. Aren't you proud, Mabel?
69. Tiff & HobbitMan - you know she wants it.

F*CK. F*CK, F*CK, F*CK, F*CK, F*CK!!
So it took me a few days to convince myself that the extra $140 to fly out of Vancouver was worth while. So I went down to the travel agency to book the tickets. As of 10am this morning, C$509 was still available. Evidently, by noon time, the price had jumped to $900. And then I started to cry at the agency, and continued crying as I returned back to the pharmacy.

What airport are you flying into, again?
Oh no. Is the Seattle option still available?
JFK.
The Seattle option may be open. It's so complicated. I don't want to book directly through expedia.ca since my agency will match the price, and I'd rather have someone to yell at in person if something goes wrong. So I told them I'd hold the Seattle itinerary for 24 hours (dep. 10/6, return 10/15) in the hopes that the Cathay Pacific flight from Vancouver may have some cancellations overnight and I can get the $509 price again. But my agent told me that even though they hold that seat, they can't guarantee the same price. How the F*CK does that work? So basically I have a seat saved for Seattle, but no price guarantee. I want to kill somebody. It actually makes me teary.

I assume you've exhausted all possibilities re: Newark and LaGuardia? Think, woman, think!
Aw, Tiff, that sucks.
Is there be a big chance that the Seattle price could go up overnight? I guess if the Vancouver price did, anything is possible.
Do you have a car? If so, I think you should make it into a cross-country trip. Drive across America to get to NYC. Everyone should do that once in their life, right?! (and I'm only partially kidding).
I've exhausted all possibilities in terms of airports to land in. I've been onto virtually every air carrier in the US's site to see what the best prices are to fly into NYC, and the expedia prices are consistently lower. I'm still shell-shocked that Cathay went up by that much. That price had been there for weeks but I never considered actually paying that much until the last few days! I should have taken a hint by the fact that both the days surrounding 10/7 were at $900+. F*CK! F*CK!! (I'm still so mad at myself.)
I really don't want to bus down to Seattle. I had fully convinced myself today, and I was literally 2 hours too late.
(And you know, I was talking to someone at work yesterday who went on a full cross-US tour, and it seems like such a good idea! Unfortunately I don't have a car (or time) at my disposal.))

Oy. My brain hurts...simplify this for me! Does this have any serious consequences, like you not actually being able to make it? Or does it just mean that you will be selling your vagspace for years to pay for it?
I think it means that she'll probably have to schlep down to Seattle and spend hours in the airport, right? Unless someone on the Vancouver flight cancels and the price goes down.
#1Elphie's got it. (Assuming the seat I booked for Seattle doesn't sky rocket in price tomorrow.)
And the Vancouver price would need to drop over-night.
Oh, I just got a call that I'm not on set tomorrow. So I guess that gives me all day to stew.
And for a while Ellie thought she would be rid of you.
Sorry about all this Tiff. I'm sure it'll work out, though. Remember, you're doing it all for U2, and it'll be worth it!
I'm off now, ladies.

Bye, Elphie! What's the time difference in NZ again? Sure it's probably October already down there!
And at least you're still coming, Tiff! That's the main thing, right? But gah, Vancouver to Seattle is probably about the whole distance that I have to travel!
*smirks*
*feels bad*
A $400 jump! It's literally TRIPLE of what I'd pay to fly out of Seattle! Damn youse, Cathay! Damn youse!! It's a 4 hour bus ride each way! GODDAMMIT!! (No, the 8 hour gap hasn't simmered my anger at all.) I'd just so mad at myself for waffling so much instead of just booking and paying for the damned ticket while it was still available.
I'd sell my vagspace, but after my date with LeShaun this week (yes, a hot black actor) I'm sure I'll be quite full.
Oh, Tiff! I'm sorry to hear that...just think of it this way, you can use the extra cash you would have used to buy the Vancouver ticket to go to see Gwen...or you could use it to pay for a chunk of an iPod to keep yourself amused on the bus (sorry, that was a low blow).
I'm off, but first, I must say that I had the absolute WORST subway karma today. It was so bad, if I were visiting NYC for the first time and that was my only subway experience, it'd make me never want to come back. In what should have been a simple trip from my place to Central Park to see Two Gentlemen of Verona, I dealt w/ a 45+ minute wait (split between 42nd and 59th St) for a local train, a stupid mistake on my part (due to extreme impatience over the 45 minute wait, which made me 20 minutes late for dinner w/ my friends, which I ended up having to cancel) which brought me from 59th, straight to 125th (doesn't that seem a tad bit overkill, express or not?!?) only to end up back at 59th over an hour after I'd left my place, leaving me so fed up, I just walked from 59th to 81st only to arrive to (and I don't know why I was surprised by this) no place even remotely w/in my budget to get something to eat. Oh, and on the way home, the 1/9, 2/3 was all frigged up. I waited at 42nd for 15+ minutes w/ no 2/3 (which I needed) in sight, so I took a 1 downtown w/ the intention of switching to a 2, which I did, except they changed the route w/o making any announcements, so I went straight past my stops to Rector St, at midnight, and I had zero idea how to get back. I got directions from some guy at a restaurant in the total opposite direction that I needed to go. UUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
I hope you guys skipped all that, but I've never had so many problems getting around on the subway before. But 2 Gents was good fun!!! Very glad I caught it before it closes tomorrow.
Keep us posted tomorrow, Tiff. I hope you can at least get Seattle at the same price.
That really is a terrible subway trauma! I think I would have given up by 125th Street, and hailed a cab! Five, ten bucks more, and no more headaches.
Glad Two Gents was fun! Whodja go with?

Have you kept in touch with Harpsichord Boy, Mabel?
And Tiff...LeShaun? Who he?
My AMC friend and two of her friends, who I guess I've done enough stuff w/ to consider them my own friends.
The subway business really was ridiculous. I've never, never had so much trouble w/ it before. It was bad enough having to wait forever and a day down there, but the changing tracks w/o notice and dumping me off on some random street after midnight kind of put me over the edge. Needless to say, when I had to go out this afternoon, I walked...all, x-number of miles. It was nice out, so no complaints there. Other than my feet are killing me now that I'm back. I wonder how far I walked...have to look into that.
Any news on the trip. I do hope your still coming. *pouts*
I'm off to do some reading, but I'll be back between chapters.
