Sorry, I didn't realize that there was so little space on that last post until I came on to read your post. I really was trying to avoid setlists, so I guess I'll be avoiding interference/other U2 boards entirely until we go in October. I went this morning to see if there was any more news on opening acts and the first post, in the subject line named 3 new songs. Grrr! And I'll try to be better about leaving bigger spaces, though, if I'm avoiding interference totally, I doubt that'll really be much of an issue anyway until the concerts in October.

I didn't post setlists from Jack Johnson and The Rolling Stones. I'll scamper to the Stones thread and post both their set and Alanis'.

ETA:

Here's Alanis' Set:

All I Really Want
8 Easy Steps
You Learn
Hands Clean
Hand in My Pocket
Crazy
You Oughta Know
Uninvited
Ironic

The Rolling Stones:
1. Start Me up
2. She's so Cold
3. You Got Me Rockin
4. Tumbling Dice
5. Rough Justice
6. Back of My Hand
7. 19th Nervous Breakdown
8. Bitch
9. All Down the Line
10. Get Up Stand Up
INTROS
11. The Worst
12. Infamy
13. Miss You
14. Oh No, Not You Again
15. Satisfaction
16. Honky Tonk Women
17. Sympthy for the Devil
18. Paint It Black
19. Its Only Rock and Roll
20. Jumpin Jack Flash
Encore
21. You Cant Always Get What You Want
22. Brown Sugar

And I never found a full setlisting for Jack Johson in Central Park, but he played a ton of songs. Scanning through some other shows from the tour, he played about 30!!!

Ooh, the Rolling Stones setlist sounds great! And Alanis threw in a couple that we didn't hear last time, which must have been cool.

And don't worry about the spoilers; I just thought it was funny that, as you noticed, your spoiler was directly after you warned Tiff to give more warning. And it doesn't make a big difference, anyway. I'm glad you're avoiding spoilers in the future, though, simply because I don't want to feel left out by being the only person staying away from them! <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! I know, isn't that awful (re: my chastising Tiff)?!?! Pity there's no embarrassed emoticon, so *blushes* will have to do. At least I didn't retitle the tread, I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY PLAYED X,Y,&Z!!!!

Yeah, it was great seeing Alanis play new songs as well as a handful of the songs we heard at RCMH plugged in. And the Stones were great...other than the fact that they didn't go on until 10, which left them on until after midnight, when the trains reverted to some crazy frigged up schedule/route, so I had to once again meander the abandoned streets of downtown Manhattan all by my lonesome. Not a fan of that, my friends. Not a fan!

Oh, and Arcade Fire's on Letterman tonight, in case any of y'all on the Pacific coast care to watch later. I'm still up in the air about seeing, errr hearing them tomorrow in Central Park. It's supposed to rain, and I don't know if I'm up for that. Besides, I have class at night, and I don't know how late he'll keep us. Figures last week he said tomorrow will probably be the only class he keeps us the whole time. I'd probably still be able to make it even if he just let us out 15 minutes early. The first band starts at 7 and there are two opening acts, and getting out a smidge early, at 8:30 (assuming I hit the trains HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!) I might be able to get up there in time for Arcade Fire. We'll see.

I'll hope for good weather and good trains for you! You seem to have bad transportation luck. Hopefully that'll change, though! How's classes so far? Ellie, I'm assuming you've started school as well, how's that going? We haven't heard from you in a while, are ya still alive?

Whenever I come into the city my aunt is worried about me wandering the streets alone at night. She lives on the UES, so one time when I had to walk back to the apartment from the bus stop around midnight (I had just seen a show or something), she told me to walk down the middle of Madison Avenue. This was because the sidewalk was covered/enclosed/or whatever (because there was construction) and there were sketchy alleys and she didn't think it was safe. She assured me that the street would be empty and that she walks down the middle of the street all the time at night. Of course when I got to Madison Ave. there were cars streaming up and dowm the street and if I had walked down the middle of it, I would have been run over in about 2 seconds. So I took my chances with the sidewalk and survived. Hm, what was the point of that rant? I guess it was be careful meandering the streets of Manhattan, and stay on the sidewalk!

Hey Mab, you still online right now?

Patronus, you're a doll. I'll keep re-assuring myself that all guys think the same way as you, no matter what the pages of Maxim suggest. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!)

#1Elphie, don't worry about staying away from this thread. The only person who wants to know the setlists are me, and now that Mabel's learned her lesson and is going to avoid Interference, and Ellie never really followed setlists unless Mabel and I discussed them (read: forced the spoilers down her throat), it's pretty safe to say that no one's going to be mentioning any songs unless I start talking to myself on this thread. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!) Don't even worry about October - we'll all be there in person to discuss the setlists sans you! (Of course, you'll be in our thoughts. *sn**)

Aww, crap! I fell asleep before I could watch Arcade Fire. Did you guys catch them?

Mabel, check out the Bitches thread re: restaurant reservations! Whee!

ETA: And Mabel, what was the website you said you went on to look for theatre/TV-related jobs? www.entertainment[what?].com?

My wife is a member of the 6-8 club and I love it. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!)

Although both of us could stand to tone up and lose some weight, I love the fact that my wife isn't going to be a twig at any point.

I dated a "model" type hollywood beauty once and I was always concerned I'd "break" her.

Tiff, that site was entertainmentcareers.net

Gotta get a few things done before class at 6. I'll be popping in and out, if you're still kicking around.

I did catch Arcade Fire, and I have a feeling that I'd loose a lot more of their show just listening to it than I lost at Jack Johnson. It's looking like blue skies right now, so we'll see. If I get out of class by 8:30 and it's not raining, I think I'll still try to go.

Did you have any tally on who's (likely) going to be joining the festivities on Sunday?

HHHHHOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLYYYYY SSSSSHHHHHIIIIIIITTTTTT!!!!!!!

Just got back from Arcade Fire in Central Park, and let me tell ya, U2 are pretty F*CKing ballsy to have them opening for them (in Montreal no less). I didn't get out of class until 8:30 and then beat feet it up there. It was SOOOOOOO MUGGY out. I walked briskly from the subway over to the park (a block and a few avenues) and by the time I got to the park I was soaked. It wasn't like I was sweating hideously or anything. Even if I was just standing there, I would have been drenched from the extreme humidity. When I got settled in I had to peel off the peasant shirt I had on. So gross...sorry for sharing. Oh, and yes, I had a tank on under it! <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!)

When I was across the street waiting for the light to change (just after 9) I could hear that they'd already started. I'll post a setlist when I find one. I was there from Haiti on. I seriously have no words. I can't even imagine what it would have been like inside. Outside there were cheers from the people on the lawn (none for Jack Johnson Monday). The vibe I got was that rare movie that gets applause at the end. There was also spontaneous dancing. These two chicks next to me hopped a fence and were happily flailing about in an open field to Rebellion Lies. It was F*CKing beautiful! I don't really remember all the songs I heard, but the highlights were RL, Neighborhood 3 (Power Out) and Wake Up...oh and the cover of Queen Bitch...WITH BOWIE!!!!!!! I could hear the crowd going extra crazy, and they said they were going to be doing Queen Bitch, and I was like "OH MY GOD! IT'S BOWIE!" (in full Almost Famous style!...but on the inside)...Just read on arcadefire.net that Bowie joined them on Wake Up too, but I couldn't really pick him out on that...it was all him on Queen Bitch though! C.R.A.Z.Y.

I was iffy about going, but I can unabashedly say that that was easily the best $4 I've ever spent (for the subway there and back)!!!! I liked Arcade Fire before, but their music just...radiated live. It was unreal.

Whoo, yeah! I'm glad you checked them out! It sounds like a PHENOM time!! Gee, now I wish I was seeing them in Seattle next month...it would probably just be another Vedder cameo (or perhaps...The Killers?). Bowie performing would have made me pee myself. (I was totally picturing, "Oh my God! It's David Bowie!" from Zoolander in my head.)

What area of Central Park was this all happening in? What did you mean you didn't know what it would be like on the inside? You were standing outside of the area? Where? Was it a free concert? Do you know who opened for them? (I know you missed the openers, but was it anyone good?)

And again, K***e is opening for U2 and not these guys? Damn. ]:o

(PS. 'Queen Bitch' with Bowie still has me rattling just thinking about it.)

ETA: Aaaaand 'Lennon' announced its closure for the end of the month. Say it with me now..."Aaaand...F*CK." <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!) So much for Lennon and 21 Club on my birthday. Time to look at other options! (I'm still very, very keen on Spelling Bee and Ave Q!)

Tiff, the Summer Stage is on the East side of Central Park. Just inside the 69th Street entrance. I didn't have tix (because they were being scalped for 3x face or more...well, some dropped down to face yesterday afternoon, but I also had class until 8:45. He let us out a smidge early though). So, I joined the folks who were chilling on the lawn (I snagged a bench a bit further away though, because the lawn was really muddy and gross after raining off and on yesterday). So all I could see was a bit of the lights at the top of the stage, but I could hear everything fine. I was rather shocked to see negative-ish reports on arcadefire.net. They were saying that the crowd really sucked until the end. I'm not sure what time they went on, but I thought the crowd sounded really into it, and I thought the cheering from the lawn folks outside was a pretty good indication of a favorable reception. Then again, maybe a good chunk of die-hards were outside, because they refused to pay $100+ for a $30 ticket??? I'm sure the fact that it was 85-90 degrees at 10pm, w/ enough humidity to make you want to just keel over didn't really help matters. I was loving having my bench to lie down on, letting me music "radiate" to me, rather than being inside jumping around/passing out. Frankly, maybe it was just too damn hot and sticky for that. I don't know how they managed to actually play wearing all their heaving looking black clothes w/ the lights beating on them. Blech! Whatever, the hour I caught had a crazy, almost tangible (not the right word) vibe from the outside. Sorry the folks inside were less than impressed...They were also pissy about Bowie getting more of a reception than AF. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!) What do you think is going to happen? He's a legend. To a certain extent if Paul McCartney (who's going to be in town around some of the MSG shows...hmmm) did a cameo (especially for the last two songs, so that was the last note of the show) at one of U2's shows, don't you think he'd probably get an overwhlelming reception?

Oh, and the opening acts were Bell Orchestre and Sound Team. Sounds like the latter kind of stunk though.

Pix of Arcade Fire w/ Bowie

Oh, fine, I'll actually contribute to the thread.

Who's the musical guest on SNL on 10/8? Paul, maybe? Or could it be a surprise appearance? Hmm...

(I suppose realistically, he's more likely to pop up on the 10/7 show than any other one, right? What's his tour itinerary like?)

Should I tentatively book Radio City Apts for 10/9-10/10? I'd have to put my credit card number down to secure it, and I have up to 48 hrs before arrival to cancel it.

I want to buy myself a Tiffany & Co. pendant as my own birthday present. Do you think it's a bit much? I suppose this entire trip splurge should be present enough.

And isn't your birthday coming up soon?

Oh yeah, we're planning a BWW Happy Hour on 10/7, so you're legal to join in!

H'lo m'dear. How goes it?

I just got back from some "mandatory" career workshop thing at school. What a colossal waste of time. I was the only BA there. You had to go if you want to be in this job search pool thing, but 99.9% of the jobs are for accounting/finance/marketing majors. Not a whole lot of help pour moi. Oh well.

I've got the Theatre Talk interview tonight at 6, and got called in for a joint interview of sorts on Monday at ABC for One Life to Live/Beuna Vista. We'll see how that goes. Oh, and I called back the prof in charge of sending out students for Inside the Actors Studio, and he was like "well, I haven't heard anything from them yet, but I'm pretty sure they're looking for interns and I've got about a dozen people interested, so call back." Super. It'd be nice if he'd just put the dozen people on a listserve and shoot us an email when he finds out, so we don't have to keep checking in. Actually, I'm sure I'm the only non-theatre major, so they'd all have pretty much daily contact w/ him, so I'm the only one who'll have to keep calling. It's a fine line, I'd imaine between making/keeping your presence known and becoming obnoxious. We'll see which side of the line I end up on. ItAS would certainly be higher on my list than ABC...not sure if it'd be above Theatre Talk or not. Ugh!

Good luck on the interview today! Have you prepped for it yet? Imagined what you're going to say for their most-likely-to-be-asked questions? What's happening for AMC? Have you checked out the ItAS's website or tried to contact someone directly? Name-drop your prof and see what's up! Oh, also on that entertainmentcareers.net site, they had a posting for help on a new PBS program - is that Theatre Talk?

Let's see...I'll definitely keep the Happy Hour in mind. On the 7th?

I've been running some questions for the interview in my head, but I've done that for the past couple and I usually end up forgetting whatever I'd plotted out in my head.

How much is a pendant from Tiffany's? I'm sure it's an arm and a leg!

Oh and tis up to you on the hotel. Just be sure to know the deal on cancellations, etc. first. I've just gotten yelled at for my high credit card bill for last month (I have my bills sent home, since I've had about 5 different addresses in the past year), soooo, as much as I'd love to offer to charge it, I don't think I really can.

I don't mind charging it, s'long as everyone who ends up staying is chipping in their portion! That reminds me, I'll have to go to the bank to increase my Visa limit. (Sounds dangerous.)

Told Dad yesterday that I had confirmed the trip. He's pissed.

The pendants I'm eyeing from Tiffany's are $100. I'm looking for the cheapest ones. It's not a big priority though. I don't think I'll have the cash for it! (The hotel is a bigger priority than the pendant - at least I'll get to hang out with everyone over night!)

You have Fridays off, right? So tentatively, depending on the job prospects, we might have time to catch a show on Friday evening?

Regardless of the job prospects, I would imagine I'll have Friday evening free. In fact, I should have every evening you're there free, other than Tuesday 10/11...not that I'm implying that we need to be joined at the hip, as I know you've got oodles of people to check in w/...I was just throwing that out there. I'm thinking of seeing Spelling Bee as a slightly belated birthday present to myself on October 2nd, because that's the "naughty adult performance." So, I'm not sure I'd be up for that again right away...you may want to save that for someone else that you're hoping to see a show w/ while you're here. What else did you want to see besides Bee and Q, now that Lennon's closing. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!) Arcade Fire setlist:
1. Tunnels
2. Crown of Love
3. Laika
4. No Cars Go
5. Haiti
6. Headlights Look Like Diamonds
7. In The Backseat
8. Sleeping in A Submarine
9. Vampire/Forest Fire
10. Power Out
11. Rebellion

Encore
12. Queen Bitch
13. Wake Up

Oh, and the interview went pretty good, I think. We'll see what happens. It'd only be once or twice a month, so theoretically, I could do it along w/ a regular internship. We'll see what happens w/ ABC/Buena Vista on Monday.

Wht are you and Mabel planning on catching when you go back in Nov? We were batting around Sweeney Todd and...what was the other one?

(Mabel, they didn't do Wake Up until the encore??)

Oh, can I take a moment to bitch about the fact that my stupid Cathay Pacific flight (roundtrip from Vancouver) dropped back down to $513 on the same day that Delta (my present non-ref trip from Seattle to JFK) filed for bankruptcy protection? <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!)

Well, you've only got Delta on the flight to NYC, right? So, you've only got one leg to muddle through. That does really suck though. Did you thoroughly bitch out your travel agent??

Spamalot SRO was the other one we were batting around, Tiff.

I was very surprised that they saved Wake Up to close the show. I'd seen a slew of other setlists where they opened w/ it, so I was kind of bummed when I got there to find they'd already started. I was definitely thrilled that when I heard it starting up at the end!!! <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (For sure!)

Tiff, will you get moved to another flight or something? Will they still be operating in October?
