Fab pics! You only say it's better than U2 because of a whole combination of things, right? Not simply 'The Killers are better than U2!'...RIGHT? The atmosphere sounds amazing.
Oh, and Brandon Flowers is hot. *swoon*
I think I have a thing about frontmen. *swoons again*
No, of course it's not because The Killers are better than U2. U2 will always be first in my book, don't worry! It was just a much better experience, due to many factors. Anyway, you're the U2 traitor with your Billie Joe obsession. And yes, Brandon is HOT. I love that picture of him clutching his stomach. I stared at him the whole time they were on-stage. He's my back-up husband just in case it doesn't work out with Bono.

Obsession? How dare you...it's love. Mutual love.
Bono is elderly.
I know that mad dash well!!! I'm so glad to hear it all worked out so well (weather and seating-wise). Damn me for passing. Sounds like you had much more fun than I did kicking around in my room bitching about how there was nothing on TV. *sigh* Oh well, some other time!
Oh, Mabel, this article about Coldplay made me laugh. The writer's not so crazy about them. He calls them "the most insufferable band of the decade." Here's my favorite part of the article: Chris Martin "makes a sound somewhere between a yodel and a hiccup. And the lyrics can make me wish I didn't understand English." The author makes a few points I agree with, but he's pretty harsh about it. Anyway, it was interesting to read. He does mention U2's influence on the band.
Coldplay article
I'm on my friend's laptop, so I'll have to fiddle around and see if I can remember my NYT password, etc. Ahhh, poor Martin. Hahah! "A yodel and a hiccup."
Oh, I was watching that CBS Tony special thing. They had a little 2 sentence bit w/ Crudup. He said something about loving the parts of The Pillowman where he's telling the stories, because he finds it wonderfully manipulative (or something like that) and loves being able to look the audience in they eye, breaking the 4th wall.
I love those pics, #1Elphie. I'd imagine The Killers are amazing live, especially in such a good venue.
And the ticket I was hoping to get had already been sold by the time I e-mailed. Cack, I thought I finally had a ticket.
Awww, I'm sorry Jezebel...I'm sure something else will pop up soon. Pity you aren't in London. I saw that someone was selling some GAs on 4throck.
AHAHHAHAH!!!!!
My mom just called me at work to tell me that I was spotted by a friend on MTV! She works with some close friends of the family and their daughter called up last night and was like "Was mabel at the Coldplay concert in New York?!?! I was just watching it and I swear it was her!!!"
Did you watch it Elphie? Were we super noticable? I taped it, but watched the Tony's instead. I'll have to watch it tonight. Sounds like we may be getting calls out of the woodworks!
haha. Really? She saw you on tv and she didn't even know you were there to look out for you? I taped it as well but I still have to watch it, which I think I'll do now! Hopefully I don't look like a *complete* idiot.
Yeah, I haven't talked to her in months. She had no idea that I was there. I guess she was just watching it and asked her father to ask my mom. Can't wait to watch it tonight!
Wow, this thread needed a bump!
Just had to pass this on b/c it was too entertaining. There was a column in the Sunday Styles section of yesterday's NYT. I tried to find it online to link it but didn't have any luck. Anyway, it was a profile of Edun, Ali Hewson's new clothing line. The last bit is worth repeating:
"As for Bono's participation in Edun's designs? 'I told him he couldn't,' Ms. Hewson said. 'The man who brought the world the mullet is not supposed to be involved in fashion.' "
LOL!!!
Too funny groupie! Bono's mullet was absolutely dreadful! Have any of you seen the Slane DVD w/ the documentary on the recording of Unforgettable Fire? Yikes! What was he thinking?!?!?
Speaking of bad hair, the season premiere of Queer Eye tonight has a bunch of the Red Sox on, getting make-overs. That shall surely be humorous!!! I can't wait!
That's so funny, Groupie. That Ali is a smart woman.
I'm listening to X&Y now, I went out and bought it today. I like it more already.
ETA: Did you watch Live Leak, Mabel? I did. Luckily there were only quick shots of us in the background. I think it's funny (yet fortunate) that they didn't use any footage of us listening to the album and taking notes, considering all the cameras they had in there with us.

Just popping in to say hi and bye. Been busy the last couple of days.
By the way, I love the mullet. That's when their best music was created.
Hey Tiff! I was just thinking to myself (while I sat mindlessly starting at the comuter today, counting down the minutes until work is over) where the hell you had been! How's work going? Last I heard you wanted to quit...still that bad?
Elphie, I DIDN'T watch it last night! ARG! I got home, passed out for a while, had dinner, watched the Sox get their asses kicked for a while (they're only on ESPN so often, you know!), switched over to Six Feet Under, and then decided I was too damn tired (AT 10:00...MY GOD!!) and went to bed...This whole waking up at 7am thing just doesn't cut it for me. I'm dead to the world by 10! Booo! Though I am glad to hear that our appearances on the show are brief. I was totally paranoid that there'd be some extended shot of us stupidly trying to scribble something in our notes while the camera loomed over us (I seriously felt obligated to write something..."umm, this tracks...er...good.") And I am BEYOND relieved that my idiotic comment as we were leaving got scrapped! WOOHOO!
I haven't picked up X&Y yet. Maybe this weekend. I don't see a trip to the mall anywhere in between, unfortuanately.
Hey Mabs, yeah, work's been running me ragged (physically; not intellectually) and the law school bit hasn't been going to well, so I haven't been on too much lately.
Random thought, why must Coldplay be synonymous with U2? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7935073/site/newsweek/ I know the comparison was made because Martin stated he wanted to top them, but I don't think their musical styles to be similar at all. (Thank god.) I've nothing against Coldplay - I enjoy many of their songs for what they are, but I find them to be more of a one-note talent relative Bono et al.
Gotta run!

Finally heard some of X&Y today...hmmm, there's definitely some U2-esque guitars midway through Fix You. Which is great, by the way!
I just picked X&Y up (apparently a run to the mall was in the cards!) Tiff, I agree I don't get the relentless comparisons to U2. Yes, there are occasional similarities (ie: the guitars on Fix You), but I think they ape off many, many people, not just U2. I really do enjoy Coldplay, but I don't really think they're ever going to have the longevity they expect to (are projected to by the media) unless they really find a sound of their own.
*hugs thread* This board is making me agoraphobic. Is it only me or has there been an influx of idiotic, immature, over-sensitive kids on here since I left and came back? I'm not a fan of Jose', but sometimes I wonder if his adults-only thread may have some merit.
Bumping this up for no other reason than it bugs me to see our thread on the third page!
Well, that and I'm bored stiff at work. There is literally nothing to do. Oh well...I just keep saying "remember your fantasy trip to Europe!" Besides, I'd probably just be sitting on my ass at the computer at home, so I might as well do it here and get paid for it, right?!? Could be worse. Though, having a spread sheet to format ALL DAY can only go on so long before the novelty of some cash in the bank begins to wear thin and I start freaking out.
Oh, and I've decided that having nothing to do at work is going to end up costing me more money in the long run. I start randomly trolling around eBay looking for stuff (I bought a U2 acoustic CD to replace that cassette I lost, even though it doesn't have New York, New York on it, yesterday) and I've been going a little nutty looking for bootleg trades. I set a trade up in Italy yesterday (fool!) This might start getting ugly soon!
So, I guess that's it for now. I could just start rambling about some nonsense that isn't of interest to anyone (I think I could get far more boring than I've been thus far in this post...don't push me!) At least when I type long e-mails/posts, it at least sounds like I'm doing something quasi-productive.
I'm game from hiding on here, if only to hide from the influx of angsty young people. Whatever happened to the time when the "Can The Teenagers/20-somethings Please Angst?" and "Ebonic_Singer's Random Thread" were sufficient to contain those angry hormones? It suited me just fine. Does everyone need their day in the sun by starting these threads? And then they can't take it when someone says something that contradicts their wabbit sensibilities.
(Sorry, PMSing here.)
Anyway, I'm happy with sticking to this thread and the Bitches thread. The quality of the board has really plummeted in the last while, eh? Where's your Italy bootleg from? Why Italy?? Do you go to the flea markets in NYC? Surely you can find some sweet U2 vinyls for a decent price?

If Coldplay don't have a sound of their own by this, their 3rd album, it's too late.
You don't really get the sense that they're a band anyway. The inevitable Chris Martin solo career is just around the corner. And Chris Martin is just NOT a mega-successful solo rock star name. Apple, on the other hand...
Chris Martin is a part of the group the way that Beyonce and Justin Timberlake are. Equal team member, all that tripe, who's kidding who. I give it a month before their bassist* is stunt casted in a faltering Broadway show.
*I assume he has a name. I just don't know anyone except for Chris Martin, which is saying something.
Actually, the boot isn't an Italian show. I was looking for my show (the guy who'd said he would send me a copy of my show has yet to reply to my e-mails) and the only person on U2tours.com that had my show was from Italy...she also has the 5/28 show. I know I could have waited it out for a few more weeks for some more to surface, but like I said, I'm getting antsy at my desk!
Yeah, the boards are pretty dead lately. I'm sitting around on-line all day, scrounging for something of interest here (or on a few other boards I kick around)...NOTHING! *sigh*
Oh and re: your flea market question. I'm actually not in the city this summer. Well, I'm an hour train ride away, so I suppose I could go in on the weekends, but that'd cost $20, and I've been more in the mood to veg lately. I'm sure I'll go in once a month or so, but it's so, so, SO much more convenient when I'm right in the city!
Hypothetical here: IF (and I don't have ANY prospects, this is totally just me musing) I could snag McCartney tix for that Wed. would you still want to go? I'm schemeing...Rolling Stones MSG tix go on sale Monday. I think I may try to buy a pair of cheap tix and try to trade them 1.) for U2 on the 14th (my mom's still on my ass about missing out on Boston) or maybe 2.) McCartney. Or I could always just sell them to pay for my U2 tix. I found someone who wants to go w/ me to Coldplay so I won't be able to sell that (RS's would go for SO much more anyway...a hefty bartering tool, from what I can tell).
