I am watching this boring liveprayer channel which usually helps me fall asleep because it is soooo boring. However, somehow this caught my attention. This guy has people call up and he gives them hope and 'calls' G-d to help them and talks to G-d for these people. I am not into religion at all, in fact, I think I don't particular belong to a specific religion. Anyway- you've got to hear about this guy. Take a seat, a deep breath, you are in for a turbulent ride.
Obviously this next paragrph is paraphazed of what he said as I cannot remember it word for word but you will get the general idea.
Anyway- He was saying how a family was at a family getogether and a 10 year old girl told them that she is gay. The mother was horrified and told her that she couldn't be gay.
This guy is going on and on about how nobody IS gay. Gay is a perverted choice people make. Two women don't fit. Two men don't fit. G-d created women for men and men for women. Babies cannot come from homosexuals. This is a perverted choice that indivuduals make. He is convincing gay people to call in to him and he will pray for and with them to G-d and that G-d will help them come out of this dirty way and have them became a normal living human being with a clean mind.
He is saying that you cannot say you were born that way; that is just an excuse. *Direct quote*- "Homosexuals care about their sin more than about rightousness. If one cares to become part of this cult, one cannot deny oneself as a lunatic. If you are making this perverted decision, you are overiding G-d's words and the bible." *Direct quote* "I am going to pray for G-d to heal those whose body, soul and mind corrupt the life that the great Lord has planned."
Now that I am frustrated and ready to throw the TV out the window or do something to that guy...
I am going to turn on another channel and take some deep relaxing breaths, and try to sleep.
Please do not throw stones at me as none of this expresses my opionion. This is fully the words of the guy on the liveprayer TV channel. Again, these words are not exact except for those in quotation marks (" ")

"If one cares to become part of this cult, one cannot deny oneself as a lunatic."
*snorfle* Funny, you could apply this statement to whatever bastardization of Christianity this guy believes in.
Anyway, SweetQ, I just had to comment on this because I used to do the same thing, I'd watch TBN to fall asleep. Even QVC was more entertaining than that crap.

Something interesting that I discovered a month or so ago. There was a thread on here about some preacher passing out little bags of stones to go stone homosexuals and how it says that homosexuality is against the word of God. I went to his website and there is a search engine there to search for things in the Bible. I entered in the word homosexuality and nothing came up. The word homosexuality is not in the Bible.
I will not sit here and try to say that God says this or God says that because I am not one for putting words into His mouth, but my belief is that love is love and Jesus said to love one another. How can love be wrong. I can't stand how Christians are getting such a bad rap from these guys who go on TV and scream and damn everyone. They are not God so they can not judge anyone. They need to remember that little "Let he without sin cast the first stone" lesson from the Bible. Because of these people I get dirty looks and snarky comments when I tell people I am a Christian. Not all of us feel or act that way.

I've basically said what KelRel said on other threads, so ditto that.

This man is disgusting. Whenever I come across these people in person or via media, my stomach turns and I feel like puking. How do you hate people you don't even know?
P.S. skittles-- hugs for the use of the word "snorfle." That is the cutest thing I have heard all day.

If it's a perverted choice then why do 1 in 10 people make that "choice" in such a homophobic hateful world.
Homosexuality is as much a choice as being an idiot is.

I HATE homophobes.
Actually, I was just thinking deeply into this subject and realized: God has contradicted himself. If sex is such a sin, hen why is homosexuality such a sin? Honestly. I think it is really stupid how people can't be with people they really love all because of some choice. This world has gone insane.
And another thing: (This is not anti-semitic, nor is it trying to be.) Christians celebrate Jesus, and He was a Jew. Christians hate Jews. Religion is just one ridicules list of beliefs and limits, and constantly contradicts itself.
That's my tuppence.

In fact, God ENCOURAGES sex. As long as the two are married/conjoined before...sex..ing. Sex is a gift from God, not a sin.
I don't know where you're getting the thing about Christian/Jewish hate...Is this about the Crusades?
Oh, and Kel. BEAUTIFULLY put.

Posted: 11/18/05 at 8:41pmAs a gay man studying for a masters of theology at a christian seminary, i applaud kelrel for her understanding. a friend of mine just got approved for ordination and is in a committed relationship with his boyfriend. those who deem all christians as haters need to wake up, look at themselves, then think again about throwing the provincial stone.

Posted: 11/18/05 at 8:47pmAigoo, the Crusades was the Christians versus the Muslims. But you'd probably have to go back that far to find a case of the Church openly expressing hatred towards Jews.

That's what I THOUGHT, but then it WAS over the land of Jerusalem, so that's where I thought they might've gotten the fact that..Christians hated Jews? O_o I don't know. It doesn't really connect for me.
After reading PiazzasLight's post again, the thing in general doesn't really connect for me...sorry. Maybe a better example of God contradicting himself (or of overzealous anti-Christians fighting against overzealous Christians) is that God created everything. Why did God create homosexual thoughts when it's against what he's saying himself, yadayadayada...

Posted: 11/18/05 at 8:53pmThank you KelRel. I'm not Christian myself, but my mom's entire side of the family is and they all support gay rights. I was talking to someone the other day who said "Christianity isn't the problem, it's people's insane interpretations of it". I thought that fit well in here. :)

OK, guys. I see a lot of people clearly disagree with my post. I understand. It's just that I'm so mad about homophobia aand religion and how confusing it is. I was pointing out some stuff provided from MY perspective. Aigoo/Orangeskittles, I see how it doesn't click for you. Actually, now that I think about it, it really is the Chrstian fanatics ruining the Bible's message and over-emphasizing it. They are taking something that's supposed to carry the meaning of God, and making it into something dangerous. You're right, I'm wrong.
As for the Jew thing, that was my mistake... It's the Muslims that Christians hate, not the Jews. Sorry, major goof there.
And Kelrel, the others are right. Your post really IS nicely worded. I understand their homophobia, but throwing rocks at them..? No. Just no. Wouldn't they get arrested?

KelRel expressed my views a heck of a lot more eloquently than I could at this early hour. Kudos!
What channel were you watching btw SweetQ?
Sad thing is, I predict this minister is very mild compared to the biggoted antics of Fred Phelps who is the head of a baptist church that pickets at the funerals of known homosexuals and soldiers who were killed in Iraq. I believe if anyone needs to read the bible, it is these ministers who forget compassion and love for their fellow man, yes man.

Christians hate Muslims?????? That's news to me. I'm a Christian and work with several Muslims. They are devout in their faith and truly lovely people. When I was recovering from the car accident I was in last year they called me regularly and were willing to drive all the way out here to bring me to doctors and help with my grocery shopping. We also spend our luch hours sharing our religious beliefs. These people are also highly regarded by other members of the staff.
Oh yeah, my Muslim friends are keenly aware of my homosexuality. Although the Koran preaches against it, these people have done research about the topic and have decided for themselves that homosexuality is organic and therefore can't be sinful.
I'm truly blessed to have my Muslim friends. Our pastor frequently cites passages from the Koran in his sermons, so I can't believe that Christians hate the Islamic people.

Dollypop: OK, I'm proven wrong again. You can have friends who are different religions then you are. What I'm saying is from my point of view. Sorry if I offended anyone, especially Dollypop.
I think that homosexuality might be viewed as a sin to some due to the way those fantics say it is. I'm not blaming homophobia on them, as that's a personal decision for a person. But still.
Actually, I'm just going to shut up now.

FTR, guys, I remember the preacher passing out stones story, but I think that turned out to be satire. I'd looked it up when it was posted, but the only reference I could find to that was from some Seattle-area newscast, where a commentator was making jokes about what some local figures were passing out for Halloween.
That's not to say it would have been surprising had it been true. Kinda like the Pat Robertson blames Ellen for Hurricane Katrina story -- almost too close to the truth to be funny.
