A story about a blind woman terrorized by thugs. Add music= instant hit.
Are you okay, darling?

It has a small cast, too. That means when it closes fewer actors will be out of work.
Bryan will ask for a CD of it

Ghostlight will record the show--including the dialogue and the "Blind Ballet" for Suzy to perform in the 2nd act.
You know that the movie version has a title song. It's played over the end credits.
As per usual with movie theme songs from the '60's, it has absolutely nothing to do with the movie, except for the title.
I believe it's a rhumba.

My version also has a title song. It's called "Wait, Wait, Wait Until Dark". It's performed by music box dolls.
Let us not forget the moving "Helen Keller " number
And all ther actors could carry their own instruments!!! Imagine: the poor terrorized woman struggling to get to the phone while manhandling her tuba as she comes down the stairs! The symbolism!!!
I don't think I'd wait until dark.
I'd leave before noon.

Harry Roat gets his own number called "Doing It By Rote"
Why do I fear someone is out there taking notes?

OK this could work- Schwartz & Holtzman are giving it the "Wicked" spin- The story is told from Mr. Roat's point of view: His troubled childhood and the loss of his beloved Doll full of drugs to the superficial and empty-headed blind girl down the block. His first number is "Pretty Little Doll" where he dreams of the day he can play with his doll full of drugs again, like he did as a boy. He pays repeateded visits to the blind girl to retrieve his doll, but she thwarts his attempts.
I won't give the ending away but there IS a happy ending AND a shocking twist!
The musical will add a Kay Medford-type, as Susy's mother. She does an early Act 1 number called, "Why wait?"

Harry Roat has a big, big number in the second act called "Leap of Faith".

Oh I forogt to mention the huge first-act closer! Roat, frustrated once again, gets a make-up kit and sings the triumphant title number 'Just wait, wait, WAIT....UNTIL DARK!"
I hope he flies.

The song "Blind As a Bat" will be performed over the heads of the audience by a troupe of (you guessed it!) blind bats.
To Sean Martin
