LOVED. THIS. SHOW.
I do think that with Drew Carey, as much as I loathe him, there will be a missing component to the players' chemistry that made the show so much fun to watch. Knocking Drew was just as much fun as the sketches.
One of my favorites:

I loved this show, too! Watched it nightly with my dad. Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie are geniuses. Absolutely brilliant.
I never warmed to Drew--but that may have been partly because before the US version, I was obsessed with the UK original which they reran here in Canada (and had lots of the same cast, but a much more typically British, sarcastic host.) I think it's a smart choice for ABC to use the show to fill the tv "off season", and surprised it took them so long--much more appealing than bringing back Celeb Wife Swap, or worse shows.
I wonder if one time regular Charles Esten, now playing Deacon on Nashville, will make any appearances.
Maybe with Aisha they want more of a female presence? I can't stand her on The Talk (but I can't stand anyone on it), and have never seen her standup, but she's funny as a voice actress on Archer. The US version never seemed to have much luck with female panelists (off the top of my head, I can't remember any...)
A fave of mine on the UK one was Josie Lawrence, who used to do many of the song improvs. She was asked to do a number of songs in the style of Sondheim.
Josie Does Sondheim
It's not for ABC. It will air on CW.
...I obviously didn't read the link very closely... Cool, well in that case it doesn't even need to get decent numbers to guarantee a full run. :)
Ryan giving birth to Colin as a baby deer, might be just the funniest thing ever on TV

so excited about this as well
although i still feel it just can't really compare to the UK Version... love watching Stephen Frost, Tony Slattery, Josie Lawrence, Sandy Toksvig... they just had some great episodes and am bummed they didn't continue with the DVD sets...
and I prefer Clive Anderson as the host... there was something somewhat distracting with Drew as the host... Clive's straight man approach to all the players was pretty hilarious and he had as much chemistry with them as they had with each other
oh and just a correction... it's WHOSE LINE... not WHO'S LINE
I had no idea that any North American region DVDs of the UK show had been released--I'll have to try to track some down. That version ran in perpetual late night reruns for so long, randomly on the Canadian youth station YTV--before, during and after the US long run--that I just sorta took it for granted I could tune in whenever I wanted, until it suddenly disappeared.
I agree with you--I think the problem with Drew is that he still sorta tries too hard to be a comedian, and even one of the panelists (I *hate* how horrible he is when they'd incorporate him into improvs often at the end of the show), that it doesn't work. Clive Anderson's deadpan, kinda bitchy quips, and the fact that he mostly played it straight, worked much better. Otherwise though, I admit when they announced the remake, I was impressed with how little (including the set and some key members) they had changed.
While I really liked the American version (and look forward to its return) I always preferred the Brit version, too. Maybe because they weren't as restricted by tv regulations for subject matter.
Not sure about the new host -- but not because of any affinity for Drew. I only know a little of Aisha Taylor, but this doesn't seem like a fit to me -- but more than willing to find out!
That's a good point--they got away with some fairly raunchy or bawdy stuff on the UK airing (which made the fact it was on a children's channel--albeit late at night--here even odder.)
I used to die laughing watching this show. So many great moments, most of them from Colin. I'll never forget the Scenes From a Hat moment where the category was "Unlikely Lines to Hear in a Western" and he got up and said, "Sure, this town's big enough for the two of us."

Thanks, CapnHook! Glad to hear it.
Man, when I saw the subject I thought it said "Whose Life is it Anyway". Thought Ryan Reynolds and Colin Firth. I need a drink.
I didn't realize how much I miss this show until I went back and watched some clips on Youtube just now. Can't wait!

I like Improv-a-ganza better. Anyone watch that?
So far I believe it's just for the summer. I think some of this has to do with Colin & Brad keeping the flame alive w 30+ touring shows a year. ( OK in the beginning it was Drew Carey's Improv All stars). Mr. Stiles had a steady gig on Three and a Half Men so was not really looking to cont w the improv work but , well, work is work.
I think it will do well, as I said, Colin & Brad have maintained their chops, Wayne has in a lesser way too. ( tho I think they will ban the "Hoedown" from the song bits they did- ALL of 'em HATED it)
Is there an air date yet or just "April?" I need to mark my calendar.
Bumping this because it returns tonight at 8 on the CW!

I am literally counting down the minutes.
Ah, these belly laughs bring back the sense memories of when my stomach would burn from laughter when watching the 90's version.
I was worried I wouldn't like it without Drew hosting, but it still works.
the show still works very well. loved both episodes tonight. Can't wait for more!!
