Zach Galifianakis hosts tonight.
That Jennifer Aniston look-a-like sketch was probably the funniest sketch of the season (excluding the Martin Short episode, which had equally funny sketches).
The show started very strong. The Fox and Friends always makes me laugh, the monologue was hilarious, and I laughed pretty steadily through the Game of Thrones skit (since I'm a huge fan - can't imagine anyone who isn't thinking that was funny), and the Jennifer Aniston skit (Vanessa Bayer really looked like her!). Fred Armisen actually made me laugh during weekend update with the Google Glass thing. After that, the show went downhill sharply - the rest of the skits just weren't that funny. So A for the first half, C- for the second half.
I was only able to watch the Weekend Update and the last half. Once again, I hated the band. I admit I only listen to the gay music, but when did American mainstream music become so bland? The last few weeks (JT excluded) have all had the same folky sound and its not working for me. Obviously NBC thinks they're awesome. Whatever.
As for the skits: Boring. The M&M one was better than what I saw, but only because of that stupid outfit. The "home movie" was weird. Even weirder the second time around.
I like Zach but he really needs a new schtick. He always has that blank stoner face.

I know that most people think Wiig is overrated, but it was nice to have her back. I loved Maya Rudolph's guest appearance. I'm surprised they did not do 'Secret Word', 'The Today Show', or 'The View'.

"I admit I only listen to the gay music, but when did American mainstream music become so bland?"
Part one, ewwww. Part two, Vampire Weekend have always been execrable.
I think they missed a great oppourtunity with not having the A-Holes. Sudakis will probably be leaving at the end of the season so it will be even harder to get those characters back together. Penelope was a missed oppourtunity.
Gay music might not be the best term, but the usual stuff: Kylie, Madonna, Britney, Gaga. Basically, if its played in the gay clubs, I listen to it.
Vampire Weekend was another bland band. I usually like male vocals (I used to like Keane, if you remember that guy.) but I'm over the guitar folksy crap.
As far as the episode goes, it wasn't awful. First half was better than the second. I missed the opening, but the monologue was fun. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the skits will be classics.
I really wanted a second Real Housewives of Disney though.

I think they missed a great opportunity with not having the A-Holes.
Me too! I loved them and was so miffed that they stopped doing them at some point. I was happy to Gilly, if only for a second, but I wasn't wild about the show overall. At this point, I like Kristin Wiig a lot more in movie roles than I do doing sketch comedy.
Also, "The Californians" is to me as "What Up With That?" is to some of you. It's not that I don't get it, it's that I just absolutely hate it.
I fast forwarded through The Californians. Never has that been funny and I don't understand how it keeps getting done. IT'S THE SAME SKIT EVERY TIME!!

That's what people say about "What Up With That?" so I just chalk it up to different strokes. And I fast forward it, too.

Keane is a band. Even though you're (substantially) younger than me, you're sounding like somebody's nana.
Nice, Namo. You know Nana was cancelled last week. Let's be a little more sensitive.
Keane's a band with a lead male vocalist, just like the bands that have been playing on SNL for the last few weeks. (With the exception of last week.)
I am so not a nana.

Nobody in the band is named Keane.
Basically, I think the point is you're not particularly a music fan, and certainly not an afficianado, you like the music that is chosen for you as a soundtrack in gay clubs. Nothing wrong with that. I would just caution you from thinking that SNL is giving you any kind of overview of what is good in contemporary music. I would never recommend extrapolating from Vampire Weekend any feelings about all contemporary music.
I remember when SNL played relevant, good stuff. I guess that stopped around the time Ashlee Simpson played the ho-down.
Vampire Weekend isn't that bad if you don't look at them.

And their stupid preppy outfits and their stupid name and their taking their musical inspiration from what Paul Simon stole from South Africa 180,000 years ago. The whole Paul Simon thing alone explains why Lorne has had them on the show more than once.
"I remember when SNL played relevant, good stuff."
In 38 seasons, SNL has only ever done that some of the time.
I just watched last night's show and the entire thing was totally worth it for the 1-800 Flowers commercial and the Korean Water Ghost mom bit alone. I too am sorry they didn't do an A-holes sketch. I laughed through the news and cracked up at the two sixth graders in the bar sketch.
They've done that "kids on a date" skit before and it cracks my ass up big time. I remember some people really being upset over it but I think it's brilliant.
