I don't tell that people my favorite movie is something different than it is. I've never understood that kind of embarrassment. Are you afraid of your own opinion?
"The Wizard of Oz"
Is, was, and (most likely) always will be.

I can never really come up with a "top 10" list, but as to favorite movie - that would have to be THE THIRD MAN.
19 titles keep vying for a "top 10" slot, and I'm not embarassed to tell anybody what they are:
The Third Man, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Field Of Dreams, A Face In The Crowd, Seconds, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Vertigo, The Thing ('51), La Dolce Vita, Night of the Hunter, A Matter of Life and Death, The Swimmer, Greed, Nashville, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, Day The Earth Stood Still ('51), The Killer (John Woo), Blow Up, Metropolis

I tell people "All About Eve"
"Manhattan"
"It's a Wonderful Life"
In reality, what I'd want on a desert island?
"Accidental Tourist"
"Waiting for Gufman"
"Oh, Brother..."
I still love the original three. But of the revised list: The first makes me laugh and cry, the 2nd, makes me laugh til I cry. The third, an underappreciated masterpiece, to my thinking.

My favorite movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
But sometimes I tell people that my favorite musical is Les Miserables, when it's really a tie between Spamalot and The Scarlet Pimpernel.

What I tell people: Boogie Nights.
My real favorite movie: Boogie Nights...or Showgirls (I'm serious. I could watch it a million times). Or maybe Valley of the Dolls.

Depending on who I'm talking to, I'll either say Juno or A Streetcar Named Desire. Really, though, it's Streetcar.

Touch of Evil and that's what I tell people. They very rarely ever know what I'm talking about.
Although they have nothing to do with the plot, the scenes with Welles and Dietrich elevate that movie to a place all its own.

My favorite movie is My Cousin Vinny, and that's what I answer if asked for 'favorite'. If someone asks what's the 'best' movie I've ever seen, I'd answer Schindler's List or Fargo.

Touch of Evil is a brilliant piece of film making, nmartin.
The opening shot (roughly the first 10 minutes or so) remains one of the most innovative and suspenseful scenes in all of filmdom, IMO.
Welles has never been better, in fact it's his best performance. Again, IMO.

ALL ABOUT EVE.
Clichéd choice, but true.
Clichéd choice, but true.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
