See, I've been thinking about getting one. I have a big birthday coming up *cough*40*cough* and thought it would be one way to make it memorable.
The problem is that I can't think of what to get. I had the same problem in my 20s when I thought of getting one at that point.
I know I don't want the lower back "tramp stamp", but what? And where? These are the decisions that will cause me to wait until my 50th birthday to get one...

Posted: 3/24/07 at 9:35pmI think the "what" part is something you have to figure out, but I think hip or wrist generally looks good on a female. Don't do the tramp stamp.

lol the tramp stamp.
did anyone see that SNL skit about the "really cool lower back tattoos" where the solution was to burn them off? i found that so hysterical.

I got mine (first and only) last January.
#82re: Who has tattoos?
Posted: 3/24/07 at 11:06pmI've come close to getting one twice and always chicken out last minute because I don't like the design. Like most people, I want something that has meaning and won't look ridiculous when I'm 50. It doesn't help that I'm a baby when it comes to pain, either.

When we were discussing tramp stamps, I thought (I swear) "I bet crissy has one of those."
Shocking.

-1st and favorite: comedy/tragedy faces on a yin/yang symbol- inner ankle.
-2nd: kanji symbol for strength on the back of my neck.
-3rd: shooting star on my foot, but I want to cover that up with a solid star.
I'm also going to be getting Hedwig lyrics tattooed as soon as I figure out the design and where and my body.

I have one tattoo and as of now I say that I am done and I believe that. I have the eye of Horus on the inside of my upper left bicep. It was the only place I'd ever want one and since it faces my body, nobody can really see it unless they tried and so it won't hinder me with jobs or be one for "show." I liked the symbol, size, placement, etc and I am glad to have gotten one always knowing I wanted one.
About the Judaism thing, my friend who is mega Conservative was telling me that it only applies to a smaller majority now than it used to in deeming it the "rule," for lack of a better word. Now that probably only applies to about 1% of the world's population and doesn't seem to be in the way often times.

Ouch, Company, that must have been very painful.

i love tattoos.
there are several that i want... i have a design i draw in henna alot on the inside of my left arm... it's a nautical star followed by several smaller stars, and each of the small stars represents someone who made a difference in my life.
i want the red hot chili peppers astrik on the inside of my right wrist.
i want *something* not sure what yet, to represent both my irish and italian heritage.
and i want to get the double sox boston red sox logo on my left arm with the word nono (it's what we call my grandfather.. it's italian) underneith it. this is the one that would mean the most to me.
my brother got his first one in december... it's beautiful... it's a clover with over-under weave all on the inside. he needs to get it touched up though.
i like alot of different forms of body modification. i have a friend who's really getting me into it. i love the way scarification looks but i dont know if i will get into that for myself. i'm working up the courage to get my navel pierced and possibly the ear cartalige. i love the way the double lip peircings look (the snake bite) but i dont know if i would want that on myself beacuse my lips are always wicked chapped and i can imagin that chapped lips with a peircing that's still healing can't feel good.
i do alot of henna and know alot about the difefrent designs and stuff... someone told me i should do a class on henna sometime.

People warned it might hurt in that spot, but I didn't know how much *hurt* really was. I went in just hoping that whatever pain I felt didn't cause me to jerk or react in some way that would mess up the design. I really wasn't concerned about the pain as much as I was about having a big line of ink down my arm from me flinching
Overall, it really didn't hurt much at all compared to how I envisioned it might be. I read up on the body releasing endorphins so I really wasn't too afraid and it did definitely numb after a little while. The part that was most painful was the outlining, but the filling in wasn't a big deal at all, I talked during the whole thing.
They say that the hands, feet, and spinal area hurt the most and I can imagine that being true. My friend has gotten a lot done and she said her worst came from the back of her neck.

Yeah...the closer to the bone, the more it hurts. Additionally, if it's a fattier area with very sensitive skin (inner arm), I would think it would hurt just as much.
My tattoo is on the back of my right upper arm. It only hurt uncontrolably when the outline reached several sensitive areas...I about chewed through my finger.
Then afterwards, my boyfriend accidentally grabbed my arm and squeezed it, forgetting about it. Well, it throbbed for HOURS, and bled and bled and bled.
Very uncomforatble, but I'm glad it came out alright.

Posted: 3/25/07 at 2:35amI saw a design a while back with the "Comedy/Tragedy" with a banner running through it. I am thinking that is what I am going to get with "No Day But Today" written through the banner. Not only because I love RENT but that is a great moto to live by.
#92re: Who has tattoos?
Posted: 3/25/07 at 2:41amI wish there was a way to do a "Comedy/Tragedy" with Spider-Man, but his mouth doesn't show. That would rock if it was possible.

See, it's the damn outline
That is when they use one of the more painful needle sizes, especially depening on size of the tattoo itself I believe.
The bleeding thing and healing process was pretty intimidating too compared to actually getting it done. The last thing I wanted to do was **** it up, but alas I think that at this point you'd have to purposely try to.
#94re: Who has tattoos?
Posted: 3/25/07 at 2:52amI found the healing process to be the worst part. For whatever reason, the tattooing process itself was more uncomfortable than painful, but holy hell, when the tattoos started healing and itching, I really wanted to just pull my eyeballs out. Each time, it was just agonizing. And yet, I still go back for more. I'll have to put some thought into what that says about me.
#95re: Who has tattoos?
Posted: 3/25/07 at 2:52amI want one, but I'm so afraid of the pain. I'm not even scared of needles themselves!

Em, it won't hurt, especially since the ass doesn't seem like a painful place to emblazon the faces of Adam and Raul on each side
Spider, novel idea, but true about the mouth, thus defeating a lot of the purpose. Or you could just have two linked heads of Spiderman and go with it as a dry joke when people realize what is wrong with the picture.

Oh, shut up, you.
I actually think I'd like it like, on the back of my shoulder or my ankle or something that I could cover up if I wanted to, but that wasn't hidden all the time.
