I am so happy that "Mean Girls", "Garden State", and "Before Sunset" are finally getting the awards notices they deserve. I'm happy with all of the selected films.
PS - I'm sorry, but I'm relieved that "Finding Neverland" wasn't nominated. Oh, well. It'll probably get a pile of Oscar nods.

Sorry. Just needed to get that out.
What? If you're implying that I'm a youngser, I'm not...I'm a 28 year old that just happens to really like Tina Fey. She's funny. She's hot. She could possibly convert me.

Oh, no! I didn't mean that way at all. It's just that between this and the Director's Guild, I had that song stuck in my head. Seriously, I'm in no position to mock anyone for their age. And I liked Mean Girls. :) Updated On: 1/13/05 at 08:44 PM
i am again deeply disturbed by the lack of homage being paid to one of this seasons greatest triumphs, shaun of the dead.
Cool, Plum..even if you were it would've been funny...cause I do mock people because of their age hehe
papalovesmambo -
I know exactly what you mean. "Shaun" was a great movie. For a dark comedy, it was surprisingly emotional.
'Saved!' was a much better script than 'Mean Girls.'
I liked both Saved and Mean Girls

I think Saved! had the potential to be really excellent- it dealt with bigger issues than Mean Girls- but the execution was off.
I adore The Lullaby League and The Lollipop Guild from The Wizard of Oz. Some of them are still alive, and sweet.
These nominations are the only ones I found satisfying. Kinsey makes it, but Finding Neverland, Ray and Spider-Man 2 don't! Excellent.

I disagree.
"These nominations are the only ones I found satisfying. Kinsey makes it, but Finding Neverland, Ray and Spider-Man 2 don't! Excellent."
"Spider-Man 2"! That's the only film missing from the nominations.
Saved was ok, but really lacking in wit and direction. It was somewhat of a let-down. Mean Girls was funny, intelligent and tight. Much better than Saved.
I thought Mean Girls got away from itself. I thought they kept dumbing down Lindsay Lohan's character (especially in the gym scene) and once they ran over Rachel MacAdams with a bus I thought they'd gone completely mad.
It was a decent flick but I'm not sure they made ... whatever satirical point they were trying to make.
LOL, they ran over Rachel McAdams with a bus? This movie just moved up to #1 on my must-see list.
How did they keep dumbing down Lohan's character? As for the bus, the movie is a dark comedy. Anything can happen. Besides, in most films that try to make a point, someone has to get hurt for the main character to learn his/her lesson.
On another note...
One thing I don't understand: Both "Mean Girls", "The Bourne Supremacy", and "Spider-Man 2" received FAR better reviews that "The Phantom of the Opera". And yet, has "Phantom" gotten awards notice, and those two haven't.
I didn't buy into the notion that once they got into the gymnasium scene and an ENTIRE RIOT had started over her lies that she would keep up her lies, even though everyone else around her was coming clean. Her character was too smart otherwise to do that at that point and it made the big riot and subsequent gymmansium scene a false climax.
'Bourne Supremacy' is a great movie but action movies rarely get noticed for these sort of things, mostly because the writing tends to be SO formulaic (something I don't think is true of 'Bourne' but would certainly say is true of 'Spider-Man.')
I guess i didn't try to read too much into Meangirls..and the girl gettin hit by the bus was one of the funniest momnetsin the movie..totally unexpected

The Bourne Identity wasn't revolutionary in any way, but it was all the good things about action movies stripped of all the crap- except for the over-shaky camerawork, which I was willing to forgive.
I always try my best not to nitpick debut screenplays. But considering that Fey's script is one of the year's best, I'd say that's pretty damn good.
I'm so happy with these nominations!! Finally!
>>>"One thing I don't understand: Both "Mean Girls", "The Bourne Supremacy", and "Spider-Man 2" received FAR better reviews that "The Phantom of the Opera". And yet, has "Phantom" gotten awards notice, and those two haven't."
Awards don't base their nominations or awards on reviews, is this a serious post? "Phantom" really hasn't gotten much notice at all...3 Golden Globe nominations and one CCA for "young actress." It was completely left out of the SAG nominations, and will probably only recieve a few oscar nominations for costumes, cinematography, and song - those sort of things. Are you really wondering why movies like SPIDERMAN 2, MEAN GIRLS, and THE BOURNE SUPREMACY aren't receiving award recognition? Despite how enjoyable they might have been, none of the acting, directing, writing, or the entire overall movie deserve much recognition - ESPECIALLY at the Oscar's. They are decent, fun movies. Compared to wonderfully written, amazingly acted, beautifully directed movies like KINSEY, SIDEWAYS, ETERNAL SUNSHINE, THE AVIATOR, and even FINDING NEVERLAND - the movies you mentioned don't look any better than GIGLI.
"the movies you mentioned don't look any better than GIGLI."
I beg to differ. And how. You'd be surprised how many top 10 lists the films that I named are on. And yes, that was a serious post.
You clearly missed the jist of what I was saying, because you only included half the quote.
I said that compared to wonderful, beautiful movies like KINSEY, SIDEWAYS, FINDING NEVERLAND, THE AVIATOR, MILLION DOLLAR BABY, ETERNAL SUNSHINE (and I left out CLOSER) - meaning great, well reviewed movies that are recieving award recognition, the smaller, less-important, fleeting movies like MEAN GIRLS, BOURNE, and SPIDERMAN2 don't even compare. I didn't say there were bad movies. I said they were good. This has nothing to do with top 10 lists, I was just saying that them not being included in the awards is not shocking because they don't deserve to be. Have you seen KINSEY, SIDEWAYS, MILLION DOLLAR BABY, CLOSER, etc?
