Big X-Men fan. Thought the last two films (X3, Wolverine) were crimes against cinema. But, the reviews for this one are insane!

Anyone seeing it this weekend?

Been a big fan of Matthew Vaughn since Layer Cake. Really excited to see what he does with the X-Men. The reviews are getting me so stoked.

Seeing a pre-screening tomorrow night, and then I may just catch it again this weekend.

I was a bit hesitant on what X-Men were chosen as 'the first class' but now sort of understand the intent (especially when Bryan Singer is involved as a producer). I would go no matter what the reviews, basically just to see Michael Fassbender on the big screen as Magneto.

I hope to be able to see it this week. I saw Thor a few weeks ago and loved it. I just wish Chris Helmsworth had been shirtless for all of the movie instead of that one scene

Not the biggest comic fan but I've got a soft spot for X-Men (the first two). That said, LOVED First Class! Michael Fassbender and James MacAvoy were fantastic! I was surprised there was no Stan Lee cameo, unless I missed it...

Stan Lee is not in the film for a cameo (I wonder how a Captain America cameo is going to work). I did here there was a great cameo that I prefer to find out when I see it.

Not sure why, but in my mind I refer to this movie as X-Men: Muppet Babies.

Not sure why either. That name doesn't make sense...

Anyway, absolutely loved it. X2 is still my overall favorite, but this is a close second.

I am surprised there was no cross-promotion with an airline with the title.

The title does come from one of thousands of X-Men titles, this one pretty recent too, but the movie is very different with the characters and time period. I think Fox pushed some continuation with the Singer films, hence why some characters are present in the 1960s and other are not.

Does the film make an attempt to explain why Emma Frost is a mature women in the 60's (X-Men 1st class) but is represented as a teenager (Wolverine) in the 90s? This is the only thing that bothered me when I saw the trailer.

Because WOLVERINE was awful, so we ignore it ever happened.

And just to nit pick a little, Emma Frost would have been a teenager in 1979 in Wolverine, since that action all happened around the 3 Mile Island incident.

But yeah, they are having this movie line up with the first two Singer movies in terms of timelines and ignoring the Wolverine movie.

Saw it tonight. It's bright and fast and perhaps the most fun of the X-Men films. It manages to poke fun at itself quite a lot. Michael Fassbender is fantastic, and he has a lot of CHEMISTRY with an excellent James McAvoy, if you know what I mean. It starts out a little slow, jumping around between people for a good while before the story can manage to bring them together, but then it really hits its stride. The one sore spot is January Jones, who is just terrible at Emma Frost, a character who deserves a real power-sexpot of an actress.

I just got back from it. It's the best "X-Men" film since "X2: X-Men United."

We saw it last night and LOVED IT.

The movie had one of the best cameos I've ever seen in a movie (not spoiling it - not that the cameo itself is so great, but the way it's DONE is awesome), and probably one of the all time best death scenes I've ever seen (not spoiling that one either).

Excellent movie - the summer of 2011 has a lot to live up to...

I saw it tonight and there was a very audible reaction to both cameos.

The movie was great but I was a little disappointed to not only see no Lee cameo but no extra scene after the credits. That being said I really recommend the film. I enjoyed the use of characters who don't get as much attention in the X-Men canon as Cyclops, Jean Grey, et al.

The Lee cameo has worn out in my opinion (each one getting more over the top than the previous) and thank goodness there was no post-credits extra scene (it was unnecessary given it felt like there were about 5 different endings attached at the end). Matthew Vaughn already had to play with the producers' hand on what type of continuity they wanted, at least make it different than the other Marvel films, which I thought he did.

I liked the first cameo, the second was.... very unexpected. The film definitely understood its era. The 60s were more about the spy caper than the superhero. That's how First Class felt to me and I loved it for those reasons. And Michael Fassbender speaking any language.

I thought it was a great movie as well. Michael Fassbender was fantastic as Magneto!
And yes, the cameos were absolutely great and so unexpected, really loved both of them. Jennifer Lawrence is so great to watch on screen, thought she was great in WINTER'S BONE and she couldn't be more different here, and yet she still manages to create a unique take on the role that works really well, can't wait to see more work from her. Rose Byrne was also very good in a smaller role, she was great in this AND BRIDESMAIDS.
Couldn't agree more about January Jones, she brings nothing to the role, she's so bland and boring, every line pronounced exactly the same way. Never bought her as a villain either.

I actually forgot about that one.

For those who haven't seen it there are two actor cameos, one character cameo, and a verbal mention of another character to keep an eye/ear out for.

Let's just say that big comic fans who have issues seeing canon changes on screen really shouldn't watch this movie.
