Don't even get me started.....
Hey while we're all here I just saw a pretty good horror revenge flick that I'd recommend. It's called "No One Lives".
If you decide to watch it, go in knowing as little as possible.
Is that on Netflix? I swear, I just saw that listed somewhere.
Isn't that a WWE movie? I think one of the wrestlers is in it. They run the commercial a lot during Raw
It is a WWE movie, which I didn't know until the logo flashed on.
It has the scariest psycho I've seen in a long time. He's not some faceless sadist these movies tend to feature. He's an efficient killing machine with an equally psychotic agenda.

Agreed, Jord. The Strangers was an absolutely fantastic - and terrifying - film. I'm still not sure about this one..
They are NOTHING alike but I am going to assume that if you all had to choose between "The World's End" and "YOU'RE NEXT," you'd choose the former? He is pushing for "YOU'RE NEXT."
It just came out on dvd Tuesday so I'm pretty certain it's on netflix.
You're Next is very formulaic and that's part of the point. It's post-Scream meta-horror. The director winks at the audience to let us know everything that's going to happen but dos it in a way that doesn't actually detract from the shock of the actual scare. Some of the ideas are really stupid, but that's what happens when you put all your eggs in the meta-horror basket. It's not all going to work.
The film has been edited since I saw the screener and not for the better. They played up more of the humor and that starts to overtake the in-jokes and twists on the formula.
It's no Stoker, that's for darn sure.
I liked Stoker.
Wentworth Miller wrote the screenplay.
Lol, yea.
But even if it's derivative (it is) there is style to spare.
The real attraction here is Chan-wook Park's direction. It's his first English film. And it's gorgeous.
Stoker is one of the best movies of the year. Takes awhile to get going but once it gets to the twist it's pretty amazing.
Has anyone seen the Maniac remake with Elijah Wood? Apparently it came out but I had no idea. I'm a little trepidatious about it since Alexandre Aja wrote the screenplay and he is THE WORST.
I was going to see MANIAC a few weeks ago down at IFC but they were having problems so I didn't get to. Initial buzz for it was really great but that turned into most people I know saying it was total crap. I don't mind waiting for DVD for that one. I'm definitely going to try to get ahold of STOKER tomorrow after I see THE WORLD'S END.
Maniac was actually pretty good.
The original is such a sleazy feeling movie that you want to run to the shower when it's over. So, going in I wasn't sure if they were going to go "exploitation" or try for a different approach.
They managed to do both. Elijah Woods has always been a bit creepy to me, and the whole conceit was that you saw the entire movie through his eyes. You only see him when he passes a reflective surface.
If you've seen Lustig's original then you know this isn't about anything really. It's a character study of a very sick person. And the POV concept really puts you in his head.
So less grimy but more unsettling than the original.
Only for horror buffs (obviously), but worth seeing for some interesting directorial choices.
And Wynbish, Mathew Goode is excellent in Stoker. The whole cast is great.
I agree with Wynbish, we need a "Women of Horror" thread.
I also agree about Stoker - it was a terrific, elegant horror/thriller.
I really didn't get You're Next, what did I miss?
I felt the creatives got stoned watching a lot of Scream films, Scooby Doo and Kill Bill, then decided to put this together.
I wish it could have been marketed in a different way. I want a good slasher to come out. If you're going for dark, campy and witty it's so easy to miss the mark.
Meh, I'll probably forget that I saw this one tomorrow.
