SallyBrown: I'm surprised to see TRAINSPOTTING. You really liked that? Did you read the book? I read the book before I saw the movie - and the movie is a total bastardization of the book. Check out the book, it's great.
Jose: Does it really matter? Come on...

Connor---That's such a great, eclectic list! Charade? Very sophisticated. Have you tried any of the Hitchcock films yet? I was just about your age (entering college) when I fell in love with them. Try Vertigo and Rear Window, if you haven't already. And there are plenty more great ones. (I don't know if they'll end up on your Top Ten list or not.)
rose&lark---God love ya for listing Newsies! If I had more guts I'd probably list "Lost Horizon" in my Ten (the '73 bomb musical by Bacharach). I fell in love with it as a child and never got it out of my system! Critics, be damned!
Some fascinating choices by all!
Very difficult to limit to 10, but as of today...
The Sound of Music
The Birds
Blow Out
The Trouble With Angels
The Music Man
Hawaii
Airport
The Mummy (1999)
Carrie

Yeah, Jose, you complain about starting a new thread and then write an enormous, completely useless, smart-as* post(s)...but the humor wasn't lost on your response to shootin...lol...
anyway...

bustinloose, not that it matters, but with the exception of THE USUAL SUSPECTS and SCREAM, that would be my Top 10 least favorite films of all time list.
It's a weird list, I know...in no particular order:
Aladdin
Mystic River
Grease
Scarface
Pyscho
Not Another Teen Movie
Eurotrip
Final Destination
Hair

****Tir...a Lars Von Trier fan...but why no Breaking The Waves? ****
While I like "Breaking the Waves" it is not one of my favorites of Von Trier. If I was going to add another Von Trier piece it would be "Riget" (even though it was a mini)
I wasn't calling anyone out on their choices. As for that Kael, she's exactly where she belongs!

Here goes:
The Usual Suspects
Goodfellas
The Godfather
Ocean's 11
With Honors
Field of Dreams
Pulp Fiction
The Blues Brothers
12 Angry Men
The Sixth Sense
Dangerous Liaisons
My tastes vary, as you can see. Of that list, I think Goodfellas is probably my favorite.
Actually, peach, I'm not seeing a big variety in your taste. Lots of films about criminals.
Movies are subjective to moods, so a best list is hard to do. I'll give it a shot:
Dodsworth
The Crowd
Now Voyager
The Unknown
42nd Street
The Graduate
Modern Times
The Women
Blonde Crazy
The Awful Truth
I just realized that, with the exception of BLOW OUT, all the other films on my top 10, were extremely popular during their releases. 3 of them were the biggest money-makers for the year they were released! I like popular films, I guess.

Convinceme - huh - never realized that. I guess I like to watch a good heist at the movies.
But Field of Dreams and With Honors and Sixth Sense? No criminals there - but the rest of 'em, I guess you are right.
Maybe it's because I grew up with three brothers. No chick flicks for this chick.
LOL, peach. Well, Bruce Willis does get shot in THE SIXTH SENSE.

And there you go...Bruce Willis did get shot in Sixth Sense indeed. I guess I like thrillers and mobs and heists.
I did like 13 Going on 30. Does that count for something? :)
Singin' in the Rain
Star Wars
The Color Purple
Schindler's List
Empire of the Sun
Hannah and Her Sisters
The Man Who Knew Too Much
The Breakfast Club
The Poseidon Adventure
Waiting for Guffman

Rebecca
The Game
Magnolia
ConvinceMe2 & bustinloose --- I've always heard opposites attract.
Oh, and bustinloose --- So glad you mentioned "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Mad World!" That (big, dumb) movie makes me smile just saying the title. Whenever I watch it, I feel like I was invited to this old-school "legend" party where everyone's hanging out and goofing off. And it actually makes a lot of sense... after a couple of cocktails.
Some of these titles that you're posting are making want to ditch work, nuke a giant bowl of popcorn, and fire up the DVD player. Great choices.
It's raining here in L.A. today, so it's the perfect day for it!
