Having just read the thread about another tragic suicide of a gay teen, I would like to say that more than ever kids need positive gay role models.

So extra kudos for Zachary. Especially since he came out as a response to a suicide.

Although everyone's speculation on who may or may not be gay is fine, I find it amusing that the speculation always involves some gay fantasy hunk. You don't very often hear rumors about Vincent Schiavelli, Steve Buscemi or Clint Howard being gay.

In regard to Anderson Cooper, I will lay my opinion flat out. It's a card that he plays ALL the time. Journalistic integrity and hypocrisy.

I have said this elsewhere, so I will say it here. Anderson always plays the 'journalistic integrity' card. if a story has any relation to him, his network or their parent company, etc.. it is stated outright "to eliminate suspicion of bias". However when Anderson covers LGBT related stories - including recent bullying stories, it is the giant pink and rainbow striped elephant throwing bag-fulls of glitter in the room. Beyond that, it is flat out uncomfortable for me to watch him condemn bullies for picking on gay kids and tell kids that they should proud of themselves and that nothing is wrong with them when he is right there, cowering behind a glass door in full light with his hands over his face chanting "please don't look at me, please don't look at me, please don't look at me." It's creepier still to watch him speak on air to families and offer condolences to them and condemnation of bullies in the same breathe and never once say "I understand. I know first-hand. I was your son / daughter."

Look at Rachel Maddow. She/s out as she can be.. On occasion, she mentions something that she and her partner did. When a LGBT related story comes up, everyone goes about their business. You know who Rachel is and you move on. When she covered the NY State marriage vote, you watched her cover that story with professionalism and pride. Anderson covered that story and you could almost feel him thinking "Yippee, now don't ask about me".

.. and don't even GET me started on how he queens out on new Year's Eve with Kathy Griffin...

Quinto has been headline news since he spoke to our Benjamin Wallace and casually confirmed twice that he's a gay man. "When I sat down with Ben on Monday and had that conversation, I knew what I was going to do and it was a very clear choice for me to do it in the way that I did it, and I'm really glad that that's the way it all unfolded," he told us yesterday at the event, which was hosted by The Wall Street Journal and Forevermark. Still, Quinto says he's surprised by the volume of the reaction. "I never ever imagined that it would be — I mean, I guess I figured people would figure it out, hear about it, but I didn't know it would be like global news! I was like, What? It was really crazy to me. People from all over the world were reaching out to me on the Internet, on Twitter. Social media makes it a lot easier now. I hear that a lot from straight people (I have no idea of this poster's sexual orientation): "Oh, you just think any hot actor is gay." And it's just not true in my experience. of all "fantasy hunks."

The rumors, true or not, attach themselves to a very, very few actors at all, much less hunks.

I mean, who? Tom Cruise, John Travolta? Who else has been rumored to be gay whom you'd say fall into the "hunk" category?

Still my point is: make a list of the hottest guys in Hollywood, and see how many have gay rumors going on. It's just not that many (unless I've just stopped paying attention).

Ryan Reynolds, too.

I think it's obvious why attractive male stars attract these rumors: because they're attractive male stars, who will be cast as attractive romantic leads and will attract women moviegoers and not be threatening to male moviegoers. These actors feel (or used to feel) like they must remain in the closet or risk forfeiting careers. Their agents tell them to keep it quiet.
But of course they can't hide it 100% anymore.

Speaking of Shepard Smith and Anderson Cooper, their not coming out certainly didn't stop Out magazine from including them in their Power 50 list. The list even names Cooper's boyfriend.

Also broadwayguy2, since Anderson's own brother took his own life, should he insert that nugget of information into his on-air comforting of grieving families?

And why stop there? Perhaps he should inform the viewer of how every news story, not just the gay ones, relate to his own life.
I get that it's just your opinion, I just disagree is all. It's completely incidental that he's gay.

And also, coming out after a tragedy surrounding a gay person is fine and it may help kids who are struggling with their identity, but how does it really help the family of the deceased. He's dead. His family probably doesn't really give a **** if an obviously gay celebrity makes it official. If anything, Zachary stands to benefit from the publicity. Again, how does that help the deceased's family?
