Borstalboy,
This election reminds me of the JVC VHS vs Sony Betamax videotape format war that consumers were locked into 40 years ago. Betamax yielded a better picture quality that pleased broadcasters and was the toast of European and Asia'n up-market consumers. Initially, Sony refused to compromise on video quality a technical requirement to surpass the 60-minute recording time threshold. JVC's VHS tape yielded the longest recording time ultimately gaining the support of American football fans. The rest is history.
To me, both Hillary and Bernie are politicos in every sense of the word. There's nothing shocking about such a statement as it relates to her. But, the moment he elected to run as a Democrat seeking the office of POTUS, he lost whatever moral high ground he had claimed over the field. There are simply too many quotes out there in the ethers of him berating the Democratic party. And then there's his record of running against them to win lower offices as well as contravening their will on key legislation. To some, party loyalty ranks right up there with idealogical purity. As an outsider, my immediate interest is which of the two convinces me that they'll lead the team to victory over the GOP up-and-down ballot and who'll hit the ground running after taking the oath of office. That would be Hillary.
Thanks PalJoey (and Axelrod) for the levity
I think after this primary cycle, the DNC will change the rules so that only Democrats can run for the Democratic ticket. This would weed out interlopers like Sanders. They should also get rid of all caucases and open primaries, while they're at it.
He'll be communing with the Dalai Lama, she'll be at a fundraiser in Qatar. Javero, I'm trying to answer your question about free education, I haven't looked that hard but it looks like there will need to be cooperation from the states, if that's where you were going. I think the next part of your assertion is that the states are overwhelmingly GOP so that won't happen. If that's the thrust what makes that any different than any other issue? Is Clinton going to be able to start banning guns when she gets in?
"He'll be communing with the Dalai Lama, she'll be at a fundraiser in Qatar."
Dude, we don't always agree on much politically but that hit the mark!!!
Regarding the next part, my position is that it would require either a constitutional amendment or the enactment of a new law to permit the federal government to regulate tuition rates at state institutions of higher learning. Either path is likely to result in litigation similar to the aftermath of passage of the Affordable Care Act, regardless of which party controls the two chambers of Congress.
With respect to a gun ban, no gonna happen unless the 2nd amendment is repealed and that's highly unlikely. Hillary very carefully parses her words where the topic is concerned. She tends to suggest that "it's worth considering" which is about as noncommittal as it comes. What she'd like to do however is take down the NRA although I doubt her surrogates would even attempt it prior to her second term in office if she's that fortunate.
Hope this is responsive.

This has baffled me also, and I was hoping someone other than myself could bring it up, because I'm obnoxious and disliked I know it's so, please answer this specific question from one of the intelligent Bernie crowd.
StageManager2, you really want to see an America that stamps out any grassroots candidate? Interloper? What is this, CHILDREN OF THE CORN??

Helllooo, lovers. Just wanted to swing by and say that the above excerpt by StageManager2 is easily one of the most terrifying, un-American posts I have ever read on this message board. Yes... Let's snuff out democracy. Those damn states rights. How dare they!!! xo
She crushes tomorrow it's inevitable. Time to close ranks.
It will be time for the Bernie supporters to stop saying dehumanizing things about her.

I stand in solidarity with StageManager2. In fact, I spelled it out it further up-thread. Wanna revolution, pursue it at your own expense. And as a card-carrying member of the Libertarian Party (LP), I sure as hell won't be hosting a pity party. Sanders is free to organize the Democratic Socialist Party (DSP) if he so desires. After all, he was a member of Vermont's Liberty Union (LU) party until he realized that he'd get no mileage out of that affiliation. Then, he bolted & decided to run against his former comrades and the Democrats in the race for Mayor of Burlington. His evolution has been interesting to say the least.

Amen!
What's interesting is that this is probably the first Presidential election where the "everyone gets a trophy" millennial kids have been able to vote. The kids who grew up using playgrounds with foam on the ground and plastic covering the handles of the swings so that they don't get pinched and who were covered from head to toe before they were allowed to go ride their bike around the neighborhood. They were raised to believe that they're perfect and special and entitled to everything, so Bernie's message is right on par with how they were brought up and anyone with an opposing opinion is "the enemy" or coming from "not a safe space" and it's been fascinating to see how that upbringing has translated into politics.
Jordan,
I'm an HRC supporter, but I think that's particularly harsh. I think Bernie's message would have resonated on college campuses going back decades. However, I think the current enthusiasm is based more on the crushing debt and weak job market than the upbringing of millennials.
I don't believe promises politicians make. It's all pandering for votes and also, once someone becomes president, there's very little they can do to make the promises happen anyway. it's fun to debate and discuss, but in the end, it's all the same. Not much if anything will change.
We know what the two parties stand for, though, so all I'm doing is voting for the Dem, whoever it is. I can't stand Hillary, but if she's the one, I'll vote for her.
Millennials have also known nothing but war in their lifetimes and they are sick of it. I wonder sometimes if that's what allows them to work collaboratively so well. They're comfortable with open work spaces and don't obsess over superficial things like who gets a corner office or how many square feet of work space they're entitled to based on seniority. Perhaps that will come later.
On the other hand, there are several fellow baby boomers at work who are the absolute most cutthroat people you'd likely ever encounter. They are products of the Reagan 80's. The thing is, they're rather successful but never quite satisfied with their accomplishments or their stature in the community. It's not enough for them to volunteer their free time after-hours for a youth group or charity...it has to be a cause with cachet and their participation must be noted in the daily memo.
Probably not good to generalize on both counts though.
Perfect Jane, now where's the new Met thread?

I'm on the older end of the Millennial spectrum, but this will be my fourth Presidential election. I'm also voting for Hillary tomorrow.

lol, every time I watch a game I think it's time to start one. Win or lose,I'm following them.
How can old "honest" Bernie release a new attack ad daily, I mean every day...and yet, Bernie (and Jane) can't release their tax records for the past 8 years? I see, Yada Yada Yada...
This will all be over tomorrow.
My tax records? bupkis.
