What is your favorite cheapy restaurant in midtown/HK/Theater District?
El Deportivo?
Galaxy?
Westway?
Renaissance on 9th Ave at 52nd--great food and great prices!!
I also like the "diner" half of Zen Palate--and I'm not even vegetarian!
But, when I work, I usually grab a sandwich at the deli nearby--much cheaper--I recommend tourists doing that to save money!
Ever been to the Cheese place on the west side of 9th at 45th?
Edison Cafe
Yum Yum (Thai)
West Side Sushi
The Broadway Deli (the best tossed salad in New York.)

Say Cheese is great. Also, Sandwich Planet, although it's on the other side of Port Authority (around 40th).
Also wonderful: Yum Yum (my favorite Thai! Enjoyed it while watching the Tonys), Renaissance, Galaxy...I keep wondering over and over exactly what award that Best Diner in Manhattan sign belongs to hanging over the West Way though.
Renaissance is far above Galaxy when it comes to good food served fast by friendly people. Galaxy never seemed clean to me. (but it IS full of Queens every weekend for breakfast - just walk by and look in the window...LOL!)
namo, dear namo, how could i have meant you? i included the word ol' in there. but that does explain a few things...

I third the Renaissance. And, for purposes of free wine, West Side Cottage II.
The Cottage is great but watch them! The last time I was there they added 10 dollars to the check. Either they can't add or they try to rip people off.

For the ultimate in retro trash - TAD'S STEAKS.
The same slop they've been plopping down on your plastic cafeteria tray since the 1960's!
A favorite with foreign tourists.
Mary Welles, Martha Reeves, Cindy Birdsong.
rlb, sweetie/dahling - its not Divas - its DIVES...LOL....
Oh, and it's "midtown" not "motown"... LOL
but in all fairness - you brightened my day considerably!LOL!
