Posted: 11/28/06 at 11:01pmIna Garten is not a "pretentious hippo." She's a real woman who cooks with her sleeves rolled up and her jewelry and nail polish removed (unlike Paula everyone-admire-my-diamond-ring-as-I-press-down-the-corn-beef-hash Deen). Ina cares about the food without getting snobbish (i.e., "Just use the canned beef broth in the sauce, don't bother to make beef broth just for this recipe") and we actually see her prepare, serve, and eat the food with her husband and/or friends (there isn't a perfect, painted-up version of the dish that her assistants have already prepared for her to hold up to the camera.) I think I would actually enjoy being a guest in her home, which I can't really say of anyone else on the Food Network.

I'm surprised no one has said George Duran from Ham on the Street.
He's so funny!

Posted: 11/29/06 at 10:32amI really like Ina Garten. Turns out she grew up in the same town as I did in Connecticut. I went to her booksigning a couple of weeks ago, and she was extremely nice. Though I'm not surprised at all.

Posted: 12/9/06 at 11:49amI think I need to seek therapy. She annoys me so much. Her fake smile is plastered everywhere. She has a smile on her mouth, but the rest of her face doesn't match. I seriously need help. People, help me!

The audience for Emeril Live is always so ridiculously enthusiastic. It's so weird.
Emeril: I'm gonna put the butter in the pan! (puts butter in the pan)
Audience: (claps enthusiastically)
I swear on my life that actually happened once.

I love Ina.
Out of all the recipes I've tried, she has the best. I love her roast chicken recipe.
I hate Rachael Ray.

Speaking of Rachael Ray, once I was at this sort of hippie convention called the Whole Earth Festival, and I saw a booth that was selling soap made out of olive oil. My sister and I, who both love Food Network, just looked at each other and walked over to the booth. I stared at the lady selling the soap, who was dressed in a tie-dyed moumou, and said "Are these made with EVOO?"
"What was that?"
"Are these made with EVOO?"
"No, honey, they're made with Olive Oil."
It was awesome. - theaterkid1015

Can I say I hate ALL of them?

I added something to the Rachael Ray thread, but for some reason my post didn't bring the thread to the top of this board. On that note:
I'm not a fan of hers at all, but I did watch her Chefography on the Food Network last night, and it really gave me a different perspective. She was actually kind of cute and low key when she was first starting out. I'd like to know what made her so loud and obnoxious (just like Paula Deen) as time went on. It's like all of a sudden she was told to "increase the personality" when she really didn't have to.

Dottie, that's definitely true. A few months ago I was watching The Fod Network and they showed an episode from four or five years ago right before an episode from the last year and the difference was so striking! She used to be low-key, relaxed, quiet, and smiley, and her hands didn't move nearly as much as they do now. It's like she's picked up a drug habit since then. She smiles too much, yells, uses that annoying raspy voice-cracking laugh all the time and her hands never stop. For that half hour of her old show, I actually enjoyed watching it. But on her shows now I just can't tolerate her!
Plus back then she tried less to look good, which I think actually made her look better. She had her hair pulled back and it wasn't highlighted so it didnt't look fake and she wasn't wearin g alot of makeup, and she wasn't contorting her face too much so she looked...semi-normal. It was bizarre.

Iheart, I hear you. I used to watch Rachael a few years ago, as well as Paula Deen. They both were pleasant and didn't seem to get on my nerves at all. But now their personalities are so huge that my tolerance level just can't take it. Also, Paula's accent seems to have gotten thicker, too.
Now I hate to say this, but Giada is kind of getting on my nerves as of late.

Posted: 3/19/07 at 11:58amGiada's spordaic Italian accent annoys the crap out of me, and she's another one that needs to cut down on the fake smiling. I love her outfits, though, and hse does still make fabulous food, but I think they're all just become charicatures of themselves and watching them is slowly becoming unbearable. I will have to say that Ina is growing on me, she seems to stay pretty consistent and her food is always great. The rest of them...well, I don't want them all that much anymore unless my family and I want to make fun of them. Especially Sandra Lee. 3/4 of the entertainment of that show is laughing at her! But tha'ts why I don't really watch it at all anymore. THe food Network, I mean. I can just look up the recipes I want online if I need them.

After watching Sandra Lee's biography on The Food Network, I take back any and all negative comments I made. I see her in a whole new light.
She faced a great deal of adversity growing up.
Her bio is a must-see.

HATE: Racheal Ray and Emeril. Racheal just gets under my skin like a parasite and Emeril is just.....done.
LOVE: Alton Brown and Paula Deen. Although I don't like the food she makes I think Paula is adorable.
