We can hope they broadcast it (in its entirety) on the 15th. I could've gone if my partner-in-crime didn't go to Maine. :-P
It's such a good song for him.
It really is. I really wish I could see it.
Ooh, Parade. Cool! I hope it makes the broadcast cut!
I'm going to see Sweeney with my brother in a couple weeks. I really, really hope he likes it.
Mano was AMAZING tonight. I went with a friend who had never heard him sing live before, and her reaction was, "Oh. my. God. He can SING!"
Everyone else was really great too, but the way the stage was set up was a little weird.
I love Parade! I really hope they broadcast that! (The other day, I heard part of a radio documentary about the actual incident that Parade is based on.)
What was most interesting for me to see was how Mano would actually perform a musical theater piece *while* being himself on stage. He obviously couldn't act the same way he would at a place like Joe's Pub.
How like...was he performing it? If you can explain, heh.
Uhh. Well, he wasn't very showy at all. "Old Red Hills of Home" seemed to be pretty straightforward....and serious. It looked like he was trying to portray *some* sort of character so he wasn't just up there being Mano singing a song. But, he more or less stood behind the microphone and sang....with a few very typical musical theater arm movements that I wasn't expecting.
That probably made NO sense. Sorry

I guess I expected a little more than I kind of got. I love the song, the show, and the performer. However, it felt like, and my friend who never saw him perform before pointed this at too, he felt comfortable with the song a little too late into it. He started off fairly weak, but towards the middle and end got much better. Thats just me though, I'm sure others found it great, I just was slightly underwhelmed although I really did enjoy the end a lot.
I think I saw it more as a very obvious progression during the song. Yes, he started out really quietly, which the sh*tty sound quality did not help at all, but I didn't see it as him being uncomfortable.
Then again, I was unfamiliar with the song --- so I was just trying to take everything in at once before it was all over.

I mean, on the recording, it does start out quietly and does progress. But his pronounciation at points got to me and he sounded a little weak, but I don't know, the sound was bad and it may have been from a technical standpoint. I just wasn't wowed like I thought I would be. However, Carolee and the Evita segment was terrific and all the Night Music and Merrily was much appreciated!
I loved seeing such classy and even some legendary performers out tonight. Where else would you see McKechnie, Stritch, Neuworth, Prince, and Minelli onstage together? Those 5, maybe not so much Bebe, I have wanted to see at one point at least in my life. I so was hoping when I saw Donna McKechnie's name, she would be doing Tick Tock or the Music in the Mirror, although it was fantastic seeing her in her signature red performing Sondheim!

Well, I'm glad that those of you that got to go had a good time. ^_^
I would have, but it kind of took a lot of motivation to get out of bed, let alone out of the apartment. *is sick and oh-so lazy*
What songs were done from "A Little Night Music?"
In Praises of Women and The Miller's Son, I believe.

I used to only be able to invision Marc Kudisch doing Carl Magnus if they have a revival. I think Shuler just beat him out :)
So, tickets are on sale for September 25th. Only 3 months early...
I was just about to come in here and post that, Fantab! That's funny. I just have to find someone who will take me now! Freaking cousins going off to college. Pfft.
Ooo, wow, how early. I actually said to my friend today that I was expecting them to go on sale late August.
From Broadway Under the Stars:
How is it that they have pictures of practically everyone performing *except* Mano? Hm.
Double post.
I saw Sweeney today. Mano is more gorgeous in person, I thought I was going to melt. I look gross in our picture, but I'm glad I finally got to see the show.
Mel, what'd you think of the show?
