I also find it a little unsettling that there is little pushback to Call_me_jorge's comments - and in fact a fair amount of defense for them. But whatever.

I am very much in that age group - nearing 70. I remain steadfastly liberal and have raised three liberal and activist children. I vote in every election - for years I made sure to offset my husband's vote as he tended to vote Republican, but now he votes steadfastly Democrat. I do many things that even jorge would find socially redeemable. I am sad to let him know that based on my family history, I am liable to be around for a long time.

It seems to me that dumping a whole group into one that he is "thankful. . .they will be forgotten soon and for good reason" is similar to what white supremacists do when they discuss POC. But I guess it's ok when he does it to people he doesn't like.

From the board, it is obvious that people of our age group are different as is true of any age group. There are people in jorge's age group that have beliefs he finds reprehensible. His wholesale dumping on us - as well as the others that have - is puzzling. But again - whatever.

Looking forward to the dismissive gif Sutton Ross posts in response.

Of course at this time there should be no parade. I will admit I enjoy it and will miss it.

In all seriousness, I used to enjoy Roxy's post and his private messages to me. They were thoughtful and kind. But, the last year or two he's just a different person. I understand seniors being scared and isolated through this entire thing, and the media not helping. When my Grandmother became a widow, she would just self isolate for weeks at a time, and because she lost her remote and she loved Glee, she would only be watching Fox News. Things got really weird for a minute but then she moved in to a very fancy assisted living facility, where she got to be social and feel joy again. My point is, she made the choice to stop living like that, and be out in the world again.

Perhaps Roxy is an isolated, scared senior who only reads the NY Post and watches Fox News. If you rely on those two things for your information, the world is a terrifying, horrible place. People don't just turn cruel overnight though, which is where the mystery about him lies. Not caring about others, choosing to be miserable, getting mad about a parade being canceled, being bitter about Times Square being dead, etc. is just very strange behavior. And, when he wrote that he possibly could have the Coronavirus, people who are not friendly with him on here extended their well wishes. They didn't have to chose kindness, but they all did. It's odd he chooses not to do that, day after day. He should be grateful he didn't die from this, like so many others have. So other people, including myself, had a visceral reaction to his comments which is perfectly valid and reasonable.
