WAY too early to even think about this!
BILLY ELLIOT is coming in Fall 2008.
I think it will be between Young Frankenstein and Little Mermaid.

People are discussing the "days of Disney taking Best Musical."
It only happened once -- LION KING.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and MARY POPPINS lost.
The other two (40% of Disney on Broadway thus far) weren't even nominated for Best Musical -- AIDA and TARZAN.
I just don't get why people talk about Disney as if it were some unstoppable force in the universe. It only happened once.
That being said, I do think LITTLE MERMAID could be a contender...
Yeah, BILLY ELLIOT won't be in this season.
But when it does open, it will win best musical, without a doubt.
^ It'll be pretty funny if it doesn't win.
Well, since you made such a definite statement that it will win, I just meant that it would be rather amusing if it didn't win.
Oh... well, don't you agree that it will most likely win?
I don't dislike BILLY ELLIOT, but I sincerely hope there are better new musicals out that year.
Mind you, if we're talking Best Musical, it's certainly going to be crowd-pleasing enough to be a maaaaajor contender...
"Oh... well, don't you agree that it will most likely win?"
One season at a time! We haven't even gotten close to the 2008 awards yet!
Well, as we don't even know what is COMING that season, no, I don't agree with you.
So what are the musicals that are set/rumored to start this season?
XANADU
A CATERED AFFAIR
IN THE HEIGHTS
THE LITTLE MERMAID
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
LONE STAR LOVE (anyone care to elaborate on what this musical is about? creative team, possible stars, source material, etc)
CRY-BABY
Is that it? I still think the revivals sound 10 times more exciting.
So far, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is my predicted winner as early as it is.
Apparently, Tale of Two Cities is also coming.
Well, TALES OF TWO CITIES has been rumored for at least the two past seasons, I'll believe it when I see it. Also, after listening to the concept cast recording I think it is a PIRATE QUEEN waiting to happen.
Have dates/a theatre been announced for "A Tale of Two Cities?"
i am still in a stalemate between in the heights and the little mermaid. if young frankenstein wins it could be their celeb status of their cast....but i love sutton foster though dont get me wrong.
i am also hyped for best revival of a musical.

Lone Star Love is a Texan version of Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor.
Won the Outer Critics Circle Award in 05, I believe.
Best Revival is gonna rock. I've said it before, I'll say it again here; I don't want a Follies revival this season. I'm supporting Sunday In The Park With George at the 2008 Tony awards, and we're going to need a Sondheim revival for the 2009 awards too. Leave Follies until then.
I know, my logic sucks...
Thanks, Yankee. Have you seen the show?
I was just thinking that a number of shows that opened last season hadn't been announced by this time last year so that's yet another reason why predicting any awards now has no purpose.

Lone Star Love has a cast recording out, and Beth Leavel was in the Off-Broaway production.
Its still to early, but I am SUPER excited about the new musicals.
XANADU - Mythic, Campy, and Fun. And already a critical smash.
A CATERED AFFAIR - A nice wedding musical, written by a much-loved composer finally writing a Broadway score, and one of my favorite theatrical writers, Harvey Firestien.
IN THE HEIGHTS - Off-Broadway type show, charming and a real musical theatre piece. Also already a critical hit.
THE LITTLE MERMAID - One of the two commerical musicals, a fable based of a WONDERFUL film. Has a lot of potential. Assuming Disney dosen't screw it up again.
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN - The other commerical musical. Who knows, only Brooks' second musical. Great cast, song titles sound fun, we'll see.
LONE STAR LOVE - Beth Leavel. Again, tested material. One of a few musicals I admire this season for being real musical theatre, not contrived or forced.
CRY-BABY - We'll see, could be great. Could be good, could be Wedding Singer Part Duex.
TALE OF TWO CITIES - We'll see, could be great. Could be good, could be Pirate Queen Voyage the Second.
Haven't seen any of these, all based on consences and reveiws, rumors, etc.
Since it has happened a couple of times on this thread already, let me point out that it is Lone Star Love, not Lone Star Lover.

I have read the script for Cry Baby and it is really a VERY fun musical it is very similar to Hairspray. Plus the cast is really great. I have a list of the names of the songs right next to me if anybody is interested.
