"Well, Scott is long overdue for a Tony. So, I'd call her the frontrunner. "

The show hasn't even played on Broadway yet.
How can you say she's the "frontrunner" when there are dozens of other shows that will open, as well?
The Tony committee doesn't reward people because they're "long overdue."

Well, Rebecca Luker is long overdue for a Tony, and she didn't win.
Coming into the season, I would call her the front runner. Yes, none of the shows have opened (except for XANADU), but of all the featured actresses coming to Broadway, I would call her the front runner.

Thanks for explaining none of your logic.
You do realize that EVERY person with a reasonable amount of lines who isn't considered a lead is considered featured, right?

So, you wouldn't call Sutton Foster (or Mullaly, whoever is featured), Andrea Martin, Mary Testa, Jacki Hoffman, or any of the many supporting actresses this season front runners?
We don't even know how Mermaid will do. For all we know, it could be a huge critical bomb and get only a couple noms. And with the featured actress category being so crowded this year, I doubt Scott will be getting a nod if the doesn't do well review-wise.
Well, I would call her, at this point, the front runner, IMHO.
That very well may be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. By your logic, Mary Testa is the frontrunner. She has been around the Broadway scene the longest, has been nominated more than once, and is giving a stellar performance. If the Tony goes to the person who is longest overdue, then Testa trumps Scott. This coming from a HUGE Sherie Rene Scott fan.
Well, Sherrie has been getting glowing reviews in Denver....
Why are we debating already?
Okay, I have a question.
For a movie to be nominated for an Oscar it has to be playing in at least one theatre by December 25.
Do the Tonys have a similar rule?
To be eligible for the Tonys, a Broadway show has to have it's opening night (not the first preview) before the cutoff date, which is usually around May 3rd.
And Mullaly, Foster, and especially Martin are getting glowing reviews in Seattle. And Testa and Hoffman have gotten good reviews in NYC.
Featured Actress is one of the hardest categories to predict nominations or winners. I could've never predicted that the bland Rebecca Luker would get nominated over Erin Davie, Heather Laws, and Barbara Walsh. Many people thought Kerry Butler and Laura Benanti would get nominated in 2003 and both were snubbed. Karen Ziemba's nomination for NEVER GONNA DANCE is still a bit baffling to me, especially considering that year Ann Harada and especially Chandra Wilson and Veanne Cox gave brilliant performances and were not nominated. Don't even get me started about Cyndi Lauper's lack of Tony nod for THREEPENNY OPERA. Those are just the most recent cases I can think of about great performances not getting nominations. Predicting a frontrunner at this stage in the game is simply pointless, there is not such thing.
Does Sherie Rene Scott deserve a Tony? Without a doubt. I'd give her a Tony for being Sherie, period. I certainly hope this is her year. However, the competition is strong, perhaps too strong. You have Sutton Foster and Andrea Martin going for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (from info I've gathered from people involved, Mullally is being pushed for leading lady, we'll see what happens), both incredibly beloved actress, one of them has always been nominated (and won once) whenever she has originated a major role on Broadway, the latter was singled out in the Seattle reviews as one of the best reasons to see the show.
Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa both got raves for XANADU, even critics who hated the show loved these two.
Leslie Kritzer is a fabulous actress who is hot-ish now, expect her to get a nod for A CATERED AFFAIR if the show lives up to its expectations.
Lauren Kennedy, Kara Lindsay, and Ramona Keller all have featured roles in LONE STAR LOVE and will be competition (not sure about Keller since she has a small role but still).
Harriet Harris who already won a Tony in this category will be heading to Broadway with CRY BABY.
That's only the new shows, let's not even get started with the revivals.
The options are endless really. I want Sherie to win because I'm a fan but the competition this year is quite strong.
Everyone has The Little Mermaid as a top choice but I havn't heard many good things about it, in fact I've heard rather negative reviews. Anyway, I think Mermaid will be like Legally Blonde last year where it will get a good amount of nominations, execpt Best Musical and win slim to none. Young Frankenstein has also been said to get a nom. only 1/2 the time where I think it's a shoe in. After making history it's pretty hard to get nothing on the second turn for Brooks. A Catered Affair is hard not to include but either people loved it or hated it so I jsut don't know but I might add later on but I think it has a real good chance for Best Book with Harvey behind it. Here's mine ...
BEST MUSICAL
Xanadu
Cry-Baby
Young Frankenstein
In the Heights

I think it will be:
A Catered Affair
Cry Baby
In the Heights
Passing Strange
What is Passing Strange?
Also, why are we picking now? We have until May. Most ofthem are't even open!
It's fun just to start thinkning about it, I guess.
I think it might be:
Passing Strange
Xanadu
A Catered Affair
In the Heights
and I really think YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN could sneak in somewhere...it's a phenomenon already. (I mean filling up that barn otherwise known as the Hilton is an achievement in itself.)

Still too early, but I'm now thinking:
-Young Frankenstein
-The Little Mermaid
-In The Heights
-Cry-Baby or Xanadu
Unfortunately YF will never be nominated.. it has soo many negative reviews and I dont think Mr. Brooks is a very likable person on Broadway right now...
I thought it was good when I saw it on my birthday, now I am second guessing myself...It was probabbly all those cocktails drinks before the show .. LOL !

Cry Baby is a lock for a Best Musical nomination.

No one knows that Cry-Baby is a lock. None of these shows, except for Xanadu and Young Frankenstein, have opened. Cry-Baby could very well take a slot, but until it opens in New York, we can only predict.
