2016 Drama Desk Nominations & Awards

Figured since I've started the 2016 Outer Critics Circle and Drama League threads, I might as well hold the monopoly on beginning this award season's threads just so everything is formatted the same way!

Nominations Announcement: Thursday, April 28 at 10 a.m., announced by Matthew Morrison and Vanessa Williams

Ceremony: Sunday, June 5 at 8 p.m., hosted by Michael Urie

Very excited for these noms. I personally get just as --if not more-- excited by the Drama Desk noms as a do for the Tony noms. I love that the pool of eligible nominees is so huge, and this year should be particularly interesting since Hamilton will not be eligible. I'm personally hoping to see noms for the following Non-Broadway shows:



--Futurity (Musical, Music, Set Design, Direction)
--Smokefall (Play, Direction, Featured Actress - Taylor Richardson)
--Dot (Play)
--Invisible Thread (Music, Direction)
--Incident at Vichy (Revival of a Play)
--The Robber Bridegroom (Revival of a Musical, Direction)
--First Daughter Suite (Featured Actress - Rachel Bay Jones, Mary Testa, Alison Fraser, Caissey Levy)
--Henry IV (Revival of a Play, Direction, Featured Actress - Jade Anouka and Sophie Stanton)
--Nice Fish (Leading Actor - Mark Rylance)
--Broadway and the Bard (Outstanding Revue)

--Dear Evan Hansen (Musical, Score, Lead Actor)



Does anyone know if Streetcar is eligible even though it just started previews this week? I'm guessing not, but I hope I'm wrong.

It probably won't happen but maybe Rachel Bay Jones can be nominated for both First Daughters Suite and Dear Evan Hansen?!

Here we go!! Hoping they give some love to FIRST DAUGHTER SUITE.

It's buffering like mad on my computer ): But from the little I got the nominations are totally bizarre, at least in the Featured Actor categories...

No nomination for Hennifer Hudson, but for Danille Brooks!

I'm so happy for Rachel—she was incredible and I couldn't believe the lack of love she got at the other awards. I'm surprised by how little attention Tuck is getting. Also, Playwrights Horizons got so much recognition at the other awards—not so much here. I'm also surprised by the fact that Tavi Gevinson hasn't gotten any nominations. I thought at least one of the awards would nominate her. She's incredible in The Crucible.

I'm so happy they remembered Michael Arden's direction of that beautiful revival of Spring Awakening.

Who has thoughts on Shuffle Along getting a best musical nomination over American Psycho? I haven't seen either yet but I hear that American Psycho is in much better shape.

Danielle Brooks getting any and all love is so good to see. She's a powerhouse no matter what she does.

I'd say we have our lead acting TONY nominees below if we cut out the 3 Off-Broadway performers and substitute Miranda, Odom Jr., and Soo.
