The 59th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on February 12, 2017. The CBS network will broadcast the show live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The ceremony will recognize the best recordings, compositions and artists of the eligibility year, which runs from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016. James Corden will host the ceremony for the first time. The nominations will be announced on December 6, 2016. Any predictions to what shows will snag a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album this year?
They/them.

As for Broadway cast albums, I think Waitress has a pretty good chance of being nominated, as does The Color Purple; but She Loves Me should have it in the bag. The production value on that album is top notch.

do you mean solo albums? they aren't eligible under best musical theater album, it is usually a cast recording of a show (studio recordings may also be eligible). they'd be eligible in other categories though.
She Loves Me and Bright Star come to mind as contenders. i didn't think waitress' cast recording was very good, especially compared to Sara's album What's Inside which i thought was terrific. Fiddler may be nominated. The Color Purple received a better recording than the original despite a missing song or two.

Would Sara's What's Inside be eligible? I mean, I'm sure it would be a real long shot against the more traditional Waitress cast album, but one could argue it as a Musical Theatre Album, no? The category is so vague in its qualifications. Just a thought.

Yep, that's what I meant. Is "Best Christmas Album" a category yet, because it could be with at least 8-10 original albums we see every year.

I don't love the production on the new COLOR PURPLE recording. I think the nominees will be:
BRIGHT STAR
THE COLOR PURPLE
ON YOUR FEET
SHE LOVES ME
WAITRESS*** (Winner)
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
I could see Waitress winning, but I think The Color Purple has a shot. Not only does the album capture Cynthia Erivo's incredible vocal performance, but it also features previous Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson.
The only concern I have for On Your Feet is that can it still be nominated since it's a live album? I can't think of many live albums that have been nominated for Best Musical Theater Album before.

Agreed. I understand the whole live concept... but it was nearly unbearable.
I think Bright Star and Waitress have the two best shots. Sure, Bright Star didn't last long but the production and sound on that recording is highly thought of and celebrated. Not to mention it is damn good.
She Loves Me was a superior album to Waitress and Bright Star, at the very least. I can see The Color Purple having an edge because the score is entirely redefined from the original and has stronger voices, but production on the SLM album is still crazy good (and I'd personally argue, better).

I'm almost positive that "Bright Star" will take the cake - and not because it's the best, but because both Martin and Brickell have Grammy Awards. If I were a voter, though, I'd choose what IdinaBell listed, minus "On Your Feet!" I think. The most exciting part about the Grammys is how musical theatre actors get a nomination to their name because of being a principal soloist. It's even more exciting this year because last year was the first year they thoroughly listed every soloist. I'm ready to live in a world where Emily Padgett is a Grammy nominee.

Most of the possible nominees have Grammy-friendly talent involved.
Bright Star-Steve Martin & Edie Brickell won a Grammy for Best American Roots Song in 2014 (Plus, Martin is a five-time Grammy winner himself). The Color Purple-It has a score written by previous Grammy nominees/winners as well as a vocal performance by Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson. Fiddler on the Roof-It features vocal performances by previous Grammy nominees Danny Burstein (for Follies), Alexandre Silber, & Jessica Vosk (both for the San Fransisco Symphony recording of West Side Story). There's even a bonus track by Itzhak Perlman, a recipient of 16 Grammy Awards. On Your Feet!-It's filled with songs by three-time Grammy winner Gloria Estefan. School of Rock-It has music composed by four-time recipient Andrew Lloyd Webber. She Loves Me-The original cast recording actually won the Grammy back in 1964. Waitress-Not only does it have a score by five-time nominee Sara Bareilles, but also a vocal performance by previous winner for Beautiful, Jessie Mueller.
