With today's hosting announcement and since have a thread up for the 2018 Drama League awards, figured we might as well get this thread up too!
Nominations Announcement: Thursday, April 26 at 10 a.m., announced by Jane Krakowski and Tituss Burgess
Ceremony: Sunday, June 3 at 8 p.m., hosted by Michael Urie
With such a weak year for new musicals on Broadway, and with The Band’s Visit ineligible, I wonder if we could have our 3rd-ever Off-Broadway winner of Best Musical this year! KPop? The Lucky Ones, maybe?
I hope Billie Piper doesn’t walk away without an award.

How can there be no love for Iceman Cometh or Denzel?

Are you thinking of the OCC nominations from a few days ago? Drama Desk nominations don't come out for another hour

I thought Harry Potter would be getting more nominations..
No about SpongeBob. The Band's Visit wasn't eligible. I doubt it will win here or at the Tonys. I think KPOP might win.
That being said, what a mess. Alex Gemignani over Alex Newell and Jack O'Brien over Michael Arden. Also, it looked like no Hailey Kilgore or Lauren Ambrose for lead actress. No Torch Song, McArdle in Lead actor, no Diana Rigg, little for Harry Potter. Wow.
Carousel getting 12 nominations (including Jack O'Brien for director) and My Fair Lady getting a mere five (and not even including Lauren Ambrose or Scenic Design) has officially affirmed that the Drama Desks are a complete and utter joke.
^ you said it GeorgeandDot. Lead Actress category was very surprising.

These nominations are insane. But that Lead Actress in a Play category is glorious. What a lineup.
The Drama Desks are only slightly better than Outer Critic's Circle. Slightly.
They're both ridiculous.
And the Drama Desk nominating committee is a who's who of... who?

Seriously! I CRINGED several times while reading the nominees!
That Best Actress in a Play is truly an embarrassment of riches, no idea how to even to begin to decide between all of them!

I remember when Kelli O'Hara wasn't nominated for the Drama Desk for her Tony Award winning performance in The King and I.

Wow I am shocked about the lack of HP awards for some of the categories. No set design of best play???
Further back, remember when Marla Schaffel won both OCC AND DD - only to go on and resoundingly lose the Tony?
No Norbert Leo Butz for MY FAIR LADY...? But Diana Rigg was nominated...? Huh?
