Bono and The Edge DID write the score for Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark...although somehow I doubt that will be mentioned in their KCH tribute.

I posted on this.
It's outrageous, but it just diminishes them further.
No credibility at all anymore.
Disgusting.

Does anyone know how they choose the people to honor each year?
Some honors in the entertainment world are really just PR events where the stars are working with event organizers to promote their latest project.
Some honors, like a star on the sidewalk in Hollywood I think the star has to pay for that honor.
There is an advisory committee which is made up of members of the board of trustees and past Honorees. Members of this group make recommendations and then an executive committee (which is all comprised of members of the board of trustees) decides on the final selections based on recommendations.
Supposedly the general public can make recommendations but I have no idea what that process looks like. I doubt they take those into consideration anyway otherwise Liza would have one by now. I believe there was also a former rule about X number of members from the advisory committee "seconding" or backing a recommendation in order for a candidate to proceed into the final determinations. But I think this was eliminated a few years back.
Then there's CBS. I'm sure the CBS honchos tell the committees to come up with honorees who'll give the telecast a ratings boost (LL Cool J, Hamilton...)
It makes ABSOLUTLEY no sense that Liza hasn't been honored.

That LMM (and the rest of the Hamilton creative team) has even been honored already is laughable and speaks to the legitimacy of these honors when you look at who's been overlooked consistently with lengthy, iconic careers.
Love the Kennedy Center Honors. This and The Tonys are the best nights on television.
Bwaylyric, you are so correct. I'm sure that CBS does have some say so in to who should be honored. It's their network, and it makes for great television. George C is a huge champion for the arts and equality!

I'm still watching the one with Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler, Lorne Michaels, etc. It's not great. A weird selection of performers, segments, etc. for the tributes.

Posted this before but I believe there should be but a single honoree. Then the Kennedy Center Award would have great meaning with the spotlight shining on one person. It would also require hard choices.
I believe that usually when this topic comes up someone mentions Liza, and I believe someone once mentioned that when you're nominated, you have to accept the nomination and she has declined the award, despite getting nominated frequently.

If this is the case, I don't blame her for declining it. The KFC "honors" are forever tarnished, year after year after year. They mean nothing now.
Liza should have been given this dubious award a decade ago, if not sooner.
Screw them.

George Clooney? Really? And Amy Grant? Really?

I don't know that I would have picked him, but I think a stronger case can be made for Clooney than Grant. He has a long track record of success in TV and film .... as an actor, director, and producer ... plus well-documented humanitarian efforts.

I am very curious who they will select to do the U2 songs at the performance.
I'm trying not to be negative but Grant is almost a slap in the face.

The only logical guess is:
Liza![]()

Ten years ago, that would not be far-fetched at all. I don't think her current voice would be able to handle it now, nor would I desire to see her try such a thing. But if you think Liza can't sell rock 'n roll, I recommend watching the finale of The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.
Look at the MAGA board members - Jon Voight and Mike Huckabee (yes that Mike Huckabee). That may explain a lot, especially the ridiculous nomination of Amy Grant.

I had no idea those two were on the board. That not only explains a LOT, IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING.
Amy Grant. Pathetic.

BJR rightly shares:

I personally don't see the "almost" in this situation. I don't think religious zealots should be awarded, much less over more clearly deserved talents with longer, more fruitful careers.

The Kennedy Center Honors lost its appeal for me when they refused to honor Carol Channing.
