You know they will make one. So what's your Sondheim tribute wishlist?
Mine is something like the ladies in red numbers from the 80th birthday concert.
In a dream world... a medley with...
Donna and Jere singing from Passion
Bernadette and Mandy singing from SITPWG
Chip and Joanna singing from Into The Woods
Len and Angela singing from Sweeney
...basically... pull any living OBC principals from his shows for a medley.

They won't do a long tribute because of time restrictions. My best bet is a song during Memoriam. Will be either Somewhere (for the 100th time), Send in The Clown, or Our Time (Like the Olivier)
Whatever it is will be part of the In Memoriam. Perhaps a selection from Bernadette (Not A Day Goes By for the thousandth time?) and Audra (Loving You?) ending with a choir of people. The Tonys will have to handle it delicately, because even though Sondheim was the most important theatre artist of our lifetimes, there are many other writers who have made huge impacts on Broadway who haven't had specialized tributes.
A Sondheim tribute will also certainly factor into the intro of the COMPANY performance, and the intro will probably be by someone associated with Sondheim shows or by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
It's a shame Hal Prince and Jerry Herman both died in 2019 after that year's Tony ceremony, so neither got a special acknowledgement at the Tonys.
I think they will do something in addition to the In Memoriam. I think it'll be more than someone singing "Send in the Clowns" during In Memoriam or something like that.

my current wish list:
Bernadette - Children Will Listen
Patti - Ladies Who Lunch
Then 2 ladies will lead an all-star ensemble singing Old Friends
Hopefully Len will be part of whatever tribute there is. I’d bet against seeing Angela, sadly.
The telecast is 4 hours this year, they can make time for a proper tribute. I definitely hope we see OBC members from his shows appear in some capacity. I also wouldn’t mind seeing anyone from the Encores Into the Woods participate since the material will be fresh on their minds.
Considering the huge success of encores Into the Woods, I wonder if they would try to get them to perform a section from the show. Similar to when the Neil Patrick Harris led New York Philharmonic production of Company performed on the 2011 telecast. It could also serve as a preview to a potential Broadway transfer
ETA: just read the rumor on the into the woods thread, so I hope they do this.
