Colm Wilkinson
I LIKED RANDAL KEITH A WHOLE BUNCH BUT I ALSO SAW COLM WILKINSON. HE WAS GOOD BUT I LIKED RANDAL BETTER.
Colm was the only actor I ever saw performing Valjean, however, his singing was also one of the main reasons I made sure to see the OBC back in the 80s.

Oooohhh, Kaga Takeshi is amazing on the Red Cast recording! Oh, and about 24653 in Japanese production, they changed it simply because saying 24601 sounded a bit awkward when they sang it so changed it.
NO HARVEY FIERSTEIN IS TOTALLY BETTER COLM WILKINSON AND RANDAL KEITH!!!

Is it too early to say Alex Gemignani?!
my Dad did Colm Wilkinson's banking when he was in the US for Les Mis and never bothered to get an autograph or anything...gotta love parents.
John Owen Jones, currently the London Valjean. His "Bring Him Home" is wonderful, and his entire performance moves me to tears each time I see the show.

ok, you guys--the caps joke has been made like 5 times now.
I've only seen Randal Keith--but his "Bring Him Home" gave me goosebumps. His voice was possibly the most amazing voice I've ever heard. No exaggeration.

Of all the Valjeans I have seen - the BEST and I mean THE BEST was J. Mark McVey.

hm - I've seen a few and most were good in one way or another - but, if I had to pick my all time favorite with the most complete performace and voice to die for - I would have to agree with J. MARK MCVEY .
"Honestly, I havn't seen one bad Valjean in my multi-times viewing of the show" -Sanda
Yes me too! same thing for me with Marius...i'd have to say that Adam Jacobs was my favorite though

Well there's a good chance Colm might have not given it to him anyways...
Yes me too! same thing for me with Marius...i'd have to say that Adam Jacobs was my favorite though
And this is the part where Sanda's head spins around and her eyes turn bright orange.
I never saw him, but I'm going to say Fred Inkley, because he went to college in my home town.

Hanna - I DID see Fred Inkley and, I could not say he was a favorite.
My all-time favorite is J. MARK MCVEY. Man, does he have an extraordinary voice!

I've only seen one Valjean live-- Randal Keith. His voice blew me away. Possibly the best voice i've ever heard live!

Michael Ball. You can catch a glimpse of him on the PBS Windsor Castle special, and all of his recordings of the Jean Valjean songs are too amazing.
J.Mark McVey was the best I've seen, although I really liked Jason Kraake(sp) who I saw as an understudy last year.

I'm agreeing with the J. Mark McVey lovers. I saw both him and Randal Keith (who was also brilliant), but J. Mark McVey took the cake in my opinion.

yes, I, too loved J. Mark McVey as Valjean. His portrayal AND his voice were absolutely wonderful. I'd love to see him in the role again.
