If the red carpet interviewer was an intern, there's no need to call her a 'bimbo'. If anything, blame her boss(es). She was probably just inexperienced.

Great show, really. It only felt as though it dragged at a few points toward the end, but I will remain polite and not name names. It only became a chore to sit there for that long when it started to grow warm.
The ties were a WONDERFUL surprise. Richly deserved as well.
Benanti was an absolutely wonderful host.
For those who have not seen Gent's Guide, try not being mouthy and snarky about the show... It is a wonderful show and a special and wonderful production, nevertheless, I am sure certain people don't care to think while laughing.
As far as the Gent's Guide cast performing that opening, it was a clever parody of the actual opening number of the show written by the show's authors.
Benanti was a dream tonight. Hysterical.
Several actors watched their show's numbers from the wings..
Always nice to see Aaron Rhyne.. He is pretty. :) for the record, his work is used heavily in Gent's Guide... On,y two settings do not use his projections...
Wonderful to see Iglehart win.. And. Mueller deserved that statuette.
Jason Robert Brown's sniping at the Conductor was offensive. I don't care what you wrote, that was not funny, it was tacky, rude and classless. Many in the room clearly gasped and recoiled. Giving him a pass for that because you liked his show is flat out wrongheaded. He should be ashamed.

Fun Home walking away empty handed is kind of disgraceful.
Winning aside, the fact that the talents of Beth Malone, Judy Kuhn, and ESPECIALLY Michael Cerveris weren't even nominated is crazy.
While Jeanine Tesori's stunning, innovative, and incredibly smart music was more than deserving of the win, I understand that JRB's admittedly gorgeous work on Bridges was pretty much a lock. However, Lisa Kron's lyrics for Fun Home should have easily won over A Gentleman's Guide. And seeing Sydney Lucas get beat out was unfortunate, but I'm at least happy she got SOME awards love this season with her OBIE win.
As for Best Musical? While it was unlikely that Fun Home would snatch it after not winning anything else, I think it was the most deserving show of the bunch. It's one of the most beautiful, evocative, and important musicals in a decade at least.

It doesn't matter how many people are voting -- ties can still happen: because there aren't just two nominees. Its the votes spreading out that causes ties....not the numbers of voters.
Why would you say people don't like ties? Maybe YOU don't, but really, what difference does it make?
And while the filming was horrid, it was hardly a "produced" or directed show. It was TM with a few cameras and a feed -- a step above the average joe going in. It would surprise me if the camera's were unmanned and they had one or two people at controls determining which pre-established shows to produce. They are a website, not a tv station.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I loved GGLAM! It was easily (so far) my favorite musical of the season. To be fair, I have not seen every show nominated, but it was far from boring. I walked out downloading the cd onto my phone, and have even toyed with returning before seeing other shows for the first time.

Are you joking? The general audience response was of laughter. You are no fun!

Not sure wher YOU were sitting, but those around me gasped and started to giggle uncomfortably when he didnt stop.
Was it funny in a "dear God, that man is arrogant and he just reminded us" way? Yes. Was it disgusting beavior on his part? Completely.
You could laugh at the first. " really?" and assume it to be a joke, but anything after that? No. NOTHING about his demeanor came off remotely joking.
No fun? Really? What is fun about an arrogant composer snapping at, of all people, a condustor for doing his job? But of course, if we consider acting like that FUN, perhaps I'd be boring and display respect when onstage.

JRB is not the first person to talk back to the conductor when he starts to play someone out. It happens at the Emmys all the time. Most vivid in my memory is of Julia Roberts so giddy from her win telling the conductor she was going to ignore him. So many people droned on over the music at the Drama Desk awards when their time was up. At least JRB gave us a quick laugh as well.

broadwayguy, I wasn't sitting in the awards - I listened to the broadcast. I assume you must have been sitting up the back with all the other oxygen tanks away from the Mics. To call this "disgusting" and "snapping" is a misrepresentation of what happened. They clearly know each other (given he used the conductor's first name) and it is nothing personal because JRB knows this is the normal process of award shows.

Does anyone know if a tie is more likely at the Drama Desk Awards than at the Tonys? I hope not. I would love to see Jefferson Mays repeat his triumph next week,

I think it's more likely at the Drama Desk because they have around 130 voters, while there are about 868 voters for the Tonys. A tie would be far more difficult with a much larger group of voters.
There have been 10 Tony ties in history, the last being in 2009 with Billy Elliot and Next to Normal for orchestrations.
Actress in a Musical (195
: Gwen Verdon, New Girl in Town and Thelma Ritter, New Girl in Town
Featured Actor in a Musical (1959): Russell Nype, Goldilocks, and Leonard Stone, Redhead
Musical (1960): The Sound of Music and Fiorello!
Actress in a Musical (1962): Anna Maria Alberghetti, Carnival! and Diahann Carroll, No Strings
Actress in a Musical (196
: Patricia Routledge, Darling of the Day and Leslie Uggams, Hallelujah, Baby!
Costume Design (1977): Theoni V. Aldredge, Annie and Santo Loquasto, The Cherry Orchard
Actress in a Play (1979): Constance Cummings, Wings and Carole Shelley, The Elephant Man
Scenic Design (1980): John Lee Beatty, Talley's Folly and David Mitchell, Barnum
Score (1993): John Kander/Fred Ebb, Kiss of the Spider Woman and Pete Townshend, The Who's Tommy
Orchestrations (2009): Martin Koch, Billy Elliot, The Musical and Michael Starobin and Tom Kitt, Next to Normal

I had forgotten what a weird batch of nominations this was. I don't think these are a very good indicator of what will win next Sunday.

It was so lovely to see Jessie win. What a classy, gracious lady. I loved what she said in her speech about choosing love and forgiveness. I'm sure this is the first of many for her.
